geez that site is ridiculous to navigate.

lineup looks good tho.

When is the V-Fest lineup going to be announced? I know it's the same weekend. Not sure how many good bands are left to play, but hopefully they'll come up with a few more ringers (not thrilled w/ the headliners)...

It would just be so much easier to take a 3 hour, $15 bus down to Baltimore than go out to Chicago for the weekend. If they were smart, the V-Fest promoters would announce the lineup asap to avoid people buying advance tix to Lollapalooza.

That fest was very good, very well organized, and fun. I know that Pearl Jam, Kings of Leon, and My Morning Jacket are all on the last day, Sunday.

Arguably the best pound for pound festival lineup in the US thus far

Posted by Reg! | April 12, 2007 11:07 AM

Silver Chair?

Posted by Big D | April 12, 2007 11:10 AM

that line-up is ace.

although i'll put $100 that the View won't make it

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2007 11:18 AM

Daft Punk will be amazing. Looks like they are headlining one of the nights since they are getting top billing.

Posted by Daft Drunk | April 12, 2007 11:19 AM

the coachella lineup seems better to me.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2007 11:24 AM

$195 for tickets? Was the Chicago Lollapalooza always this expensive?

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2007 11:27 AM

No the tickets last year peaked at 165. I bought a ticket for 90 dollars last year off of ebay the week before.

Posted by danfun | April 12, 2007 11:29 AM

I can definitely see rapture, lcd soundsystem, then daft punk playing one stage to round out friday or saturday night.

Posted by Beto | April 12, 2007 11:30 AM

That's a solid lineup. Not as kickass as last year's, but that would be hard to top. My friends are bitching that it's subpar, but w/ Interpol, Modest Mouse, The Roots, Kings of Leon, Silversun Pickups, The Stooges, and TV on the Radio, you're guaranteed to see some great live performances.

They will likely add more bands in the coming weeks. That happened the last two years. I'm still holding out hope that they'll bestow Broken Social Scene with a make-good for only giving them 45 minutes last year. That was a kind of a shame.

Posted by Reed | April 12, 2007 11:30 AM

anyone know the actual day breakdowns by band?

really solid lineup all the way through --

although, dont know who cares about ben harper anymore?

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2007 11:30 AM

increase in price probably has to do with the fact that it's 3 days this year as opposed to 2.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2007 11:31 AM

What's with G. Love & the Special Sauce showing up everywhere these days? Like, ew.

Posted by F. Love | April 12, 2007 11:32 AM

The festival was 3 days last as well. I think the price increase has more to do with the fact that ever festivals prices went up this year.

Posted by danfun | April 12, 2007 11:41 AM

Obviously, lots of great bands... but overall, I can't help but think "eh"

Posted by Brian | April 12, 2007 11:43 AM

"Eh"? This is one of the best festival lineups I've ever seen!

Posted by Mark B. | April 12, 2007 11:53 AM

SILVERCHAIR!

Posted by cranky | April 12, 2007 12:02 PM

The lineup is definitely solid, but seems to have been hurt by the V Fest in regards to headliners. You would be hard pressed to convince me that Ben Harper is headline material. Pearl Jam is a legitimate headliner. Daft Punk is obviously an incredible live experience, but I am surprised that they are billed as one of the primary headliners. I saw the Coachella show last year and as awesome as it was, they still weren't billed as the top headliner of the night and their music doesn't necessarily appeal to everyone like a Pearl Jam would. Although I'd say that none of the festivals knocked it out of the park with headliners this year. Coachella has RATM, Bonnaroo has The White Stripes, V Fest has Smashing Pumpkins, and Lolla has Pearl Jam. Otherwise, all the festivals seem to blend together a bit.

That website is so fuckin' annoying.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2007 12:45 PM

Perry Farrell better play some Jane's Addiction tracks 'cause Satellite Party fucking SUCKS.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2007 1:04 PM

I dont know final costs for tix last year as I didnt go, but this year the costs listed include all service charges etc, so theres no extra BS.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2007 1:18 PM

no, there is extra bs. instead of just saying tickets are 150 and paying an extra 20 on top of that, they just straight up say its 170 or however much. They just hide it.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2007 1:50 PM

That site drives me fucking insane. And trying to download the PDF version of the lineup blows up my browser. Ugh. Has anyone been able to find a text/PDF version?

The lineup's pretty good, but I don't know if it's worth $195. A friend of mine got the early bird $60 tickets, so I'll be there, anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2007 1:57 PM

Never mind the inquiry above. I obviously jumped straight to reading the comments.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2007 2:00 PM

anyone know a hotel to stay at near grant park?

Posted by argh | April 12, 2007 2:30 PM

silverchair has grown so much since 1997 (thats for you, people with question marks.) you would never know they were the same band. no joke. but i mean, alot changes from 15yrs old - 27 yrs old.

im glad they will be playing - there will be more chair fans afoot soon.

Posted by twinnstar | April 12, 2007 3:48 PM

A friend and I stayed at the Embassy Suites Lakefront, which is about a 10 minute walk right up the road from the park. It wasn't cheap, but split multiple ways it comes out pretty affordable. And it's an easy walk.

Posted by Steve | April 12, 2007 3:49 PM

there's a redroof inn near by -- its the cheapest hotel near the park, its less than a mile away. doesn't look spectacular, but who really cares bout all that.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2007 4:02 PM

Silverchair and Modest Mouse are apparently playing VFest too -- that's where I'll be.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2007 4:34 PM

Lollapalooza and VFest are the same weekend. No band will play both, even on different days. The probably have exclusivity clauses in their contracts.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2007 4:43 PM

am i the only one that thinks lolla has a weak lineup?

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2007 7:12 PM

yea it is weak! NO WOLFMOTHER???? the best live band of the day?

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2007 8:20 PM

i agree that it seems weak to me...i went last year and i had a list of over 20 bands i wanted to see...this year i only count 12 or so...not worth it for 3 days...

Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2007 12:56 AM

i have a feeling there will be big additions later on. but if the lolla organizers were smart..theyd announce them soon, before people from the northeast get their tickets to v fest.

this is my first post on BV..but ive been reading the site for years. i also just moved to park slope!

Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2007 10:06 AM

The HI Chicago hostel is walking distance from the park: http://www.hichicago.org/

Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2007 10:15 AM

no doubt last year's lineup was better, but i truly don't feel this year's is all that bad. i definitely think there are much better little guys than big ones this year. and i'm cool with that...give the new kids a chance. with the wave of blogs and satellite radio, i've heard of a ton more bands than ever before. this is a good thing...and even better they're getting opportunities to play at festivals (wherever they may be).

Posted by deathbystereo | April 13, 2007 1:45 PM

I went to Lollapalooza last year and i think the potential headliners this year are better...Daft Punk and Pearl Jam will be much better than the Chili Peppers and Death Cab (was not impressed by them at all last year).

The only thing that would defintiely put 2007 over the top for me would be getting Broken Social Scene to come back and repeat their amazing performance from last year. I was awed.

Posted by chaci hibachi | April 13, 2007 2:32 PM

agreed on bss...would be great to bring them back! and also agreed on death cab...not a fan.

as a big picture, lolla's headliners are great...but not enough to set it apart from coachella, bonnaroo, acl, etc. all in all i think the indie bands are going to carry the show this year.

either way, it's chicago...in the summer...live music...and cold beer...so i'm in:).

Posted by deathbystereo | April 13, 2007 4:46 PM

Silverchair wow!

Posted by lollacub | April 16, 2007 4:48 PM

chaci hibachi,

There is no doubt that you were not impressed by Death Cab For Cutie last year, you were at the wrong stage, I was having my face melted off by the insane rock that WEEN was dishing out on the other side of the festival.
