Art Brut exploring LA
Art Brut in LA

Art Brut's peeps recently sent around five, new, unmastered Art Brut tracks for the world to preview. Many have wondered if Art Brut has it in them to repeat the awesomeness that was contained within their first album Bang Bang Rock and Roll. Are they a one trick pony? Is it all a schtick? What was Downtown Records thinking?

I wonder a little what a 2nd Art Brut album will be like, but I know I'll probably never grow old of a live Art Brut show. Here are the new (unmatered) tracks. Let me know what you think. So far I like what I hear:

DOWNLOAD: Art Brut - Pump Up The Volume (MP3)
DOWNLOAD: Art Brut - Direct Hit (MP3)
DOWNLOAD: Art Brut - Post Soothing Out MP3
DOWNLOAD: Art Brut - Late Sunday (MP3)
DOWNLOAD: Art Brut - Nag Nag Nag Nag (MP3)

Thank you Tripwire for hosting these MP3's.

Art Brut begin their mini US tour next week, and Radio Soulwax begin their slightly-larger US tour next week. Soulwax's show at Hiro Ballroom in Manhattan is sold out. Art Brut's show at Bowery Ballroom in Manhattan is also sold out, BUT neither Art Brut's nor Soulwax's Brooklyn shows at Studio B are sold out. What's really convenient about the whole thing is that they are both on the same night (April 18) at the same venue - Art Brut is early & Soulwax is late. Tickets are being sold separately - for Art Brut and for Soulwax. Stay all night - F*cked Up opens the early show.

new Art Brut DVD "Talking To The Kids" is out in the U.S. on 5/29 through Cobraside / Redeye Distribution!

A full concert, a bunch of videos, interviews, a TV performance...it all should be very, very cool.

Wow. These sound great for unmastered tracks. I mean... way better than their entire first album did.

Anyone else catch the Vonnegut references in Late Sunday?

'pump up the volume' sounds like an early strokes song

There's definitely something to be said for a band that doesn't take itself too seriously, but is still able to make great music. I imagine their live act must be quite fun.

art brut are ok, I guess. Those MP3's are also ok, I guess. But if "f*cked up" turn out not to be the "Special" TBA that ticketmaster says is opening, your gonna have some 'splainin to do Brooklyn Vegan
