Pearl Jam confirms Lollapalooza - it's the 90's

Singles"Pearl Jam's only scheduled U.S. show of 2007 will be on the final night of the annual Lollapalooza festival at Chicago's Grant Park on August 5." [Yahoo]

"Smashing Pumpkins To Headline Montreal's Second Osheaga Festival" [Chart Attack]

How crazy is it that Rock the Bells sold out so quickly? How many people does Randall's Island hold? Do you think it was mainly because Rage Against the Machine are on the bill?

Who plans on seeing Rage Against the Machine, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Chris Cornell play Soundgarden & Temple of the Dog songs, the new movie about Nirvana, AND Mudhoney this summer?

Who saw Mudhoney at Knitting Factory last year? Who saw "Alice in Chains" last year? Who thinks that last year's "Alice in Chains" was about as authentic as a Nivana reunion would be? Who saw Nirvana ever? Where?

Who wants to throw down tonight at Nerveana?

The Alice in Chains show last year wasn't that bad. Sure, it wasn't the real Alice in Chains, but no one's ever gonna get that, are they? So may as well enjoy the surviving members while we can. And the new singer, Will DuVall, isn't terrible. He's got a pretty good approximation going on. Hey, at least they didn't decide to use Phil Anselmo from Pantera instead.

Though I do admit that the show would have been better if Jerry Cantrell had actually found the guy who threw a full beer onto the stage from the balcony and kicked the shit out of him in front of everyone.

The worst thing about the show was the unbelievably awful Nokia Theatre. What a house of shit that place is. The layout is awkward, it feels like a tv studio. Andn the sound, the sound is horrific. It's akin to a low volume cacophony of thick mud. What a mess that place is. They'll have to resurrect a couple Beatles before they convince me to go back to that hell hole. It's where rock goes to die.

Was in the audience with Wallis, above, at the Marquee on the far West side in '91. Also saw Kurt and Courtney perusing the magazine rack at Gem Spa on 2nd Ave. after one of Nirvana's SNL performances - the one where Kurt's hair was hennaed pink.

Rage is going to be incredible. Seen em w/ Wu Tang at Giants Stadium and then with Beastie Boys at Continental Arena (the Free Mumia show). Both were off the chains...never seen so much energy in a crowd. I'm so thankful they are playing at Randalls...I wanted to kill myself after realizing I couldn't go to Coachella.

I saw Jawbreaker open for Nirvana at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, circa 1994(?).

I hate these bragfests but

I saw the Smashing Pumpkins on a ferry boat out of Chelsea Piers in 2000 ... sat in front of them on the floor of the boat's main interior space. It was a K-ROCK event with the ridiculous name "Smash Bash."

I also saw the Pumpkins at Tramps in April 1999 for their small "Arising!" club tour, the last tour with the full lineup of the band: D'Arcy had not yet left and Jimmy Chamberlain had recently returned.

Also, Alice in Chains last year was *awesome* -- the new singer is great. He has his own personality on stage but emulates Layne Staley very well.

Oh and good call on the Singles soundtrack image.

Maybe the Screaming Trees will tour, too.

saw them about 6 months later at the Rave - like a 5,000 audience. crazy growth...

Almost went from Nashville to Atlanta to see Nirvana with the Breeders in 1993 but decided it was to far and that I'd just catch them on their next tour. Still filled with self-loathing on the bad decision making front.

Saw Smashing Pumpkins at Lollapalooza right around that same time. Thought they were boring then too. Mudhoney still plays here in their hometown quite a bit, so that doesn't feel as retro-strange to me... but RATM? Bleh.

My two imaginary cents.
