Sin-e's Shane Doyle (CRED - NY TIMES)

Sin-e is now closed.
“I look at this block, and I know it’s over,” Mr. Doyle, 55, said in an interview in his club on Attorney Street near Stanton. Once an industrial stretch of liquor warehouses and auto-repair shops, that block is now within spitting distance of several million-dollar apartment complexes. When those buildings’ residents started calling to complain of noise and crowds, he knew. “Then the obvious thing is, O.K., let me go somewhere else,” he said. “But I can’t find somewhere else. And even if I could the lifespan would be too short.”Thanks to Shane and everyone at Sin-e for everything. Working with them, even for a little, was a great experience. Please post your own memories of Sin-e in the comments.Instead, though he says he hasn’t had a drink in decades, he is joining with partners to open a wine store in Queens, a borough he has visited mostly for its airports. I only got to go there once, which is for when the Atlanta band SNOWDEN played there. I had a great time . Sucks cool venues close. I miss other NYC clubs/venues like :the Wetlands, Tramps, and BROWNIES! ;(
Here's the pictures from SIN-E I took of snowden.

saw a lot of great VICIOUS shows there. my band's first shows were at sin-e too, back in 2004.
it was a little out of the way, but the cover was always reasonable and the sound was always really good there. i'll miss this place for the same reasons i miss the luna lounge.

i was at the new sin-e only a few times. i had a friend who had a recording studio on attorney street and they used to have massive loft parties there. it feels like ages ago but it was only 97 to 2000. that whole part of the LES used to be very sketchy.
best show at sin-e for me was the nyc debut for the riverboat gamblers. i think it was 2003 or 2004. mike weibe kicked over a bunch of beer bottles on the floor and then bodyslammed into them by the end of the set. excellent excellent show.

That glowing Sin-e sign behind the stage was the worst thing I ever saw at any respected venue. Most people let it slide, but was I the only one that didn't get it? Neon makes me uncomfortable.
Also, there was something really hot about the butch lesbian bartender there. She looked like she was a great kisser. And after she gave you that great kiss, she would/could beat your ass. But in the end, so not interested in dudes.

I only went to the newest incarnation of Sin-e a few times myself, but the first time was memorable since it was The Magic Numbers' first show in the U.S about two years ago. They didn't even headline, which was unfortunate because my friend's band had the misfortune of playing after them and of course by that point most of the people in there had left.

I remember a great Shepherd's Pie they used to serve at the old Sine. I missed chowing down on Irish food and listening to great music there. Never went to the new Sine - sad I missed out. As someone on this site said once, there's going to be all these places to live and no place fun to go!!
And I can't believe how a club like Sine has to close after people complain about noise and crowds! Sine?! Please. These shows weren't anything like the Sunday matinees at CBGBs. Why are lame, boring people being allowed to take over downtown?!

I remember a bunch of drunks smoking, yelling and puking on my doorstep every night and a musician friend getting kicked out of his studio so Sine could break through and have a full liquor license. And I don't live in one of the million dollar condos. Good riddance.

so I guess that everyone should have to lose out because it inconvenienced you. move out to the fucking suburbs.
The pendulum has swung too far and this city is losing everything that a large group of people (including myself) loved about it. The city is using annoying shits' (like the one above) complaints as an excuse to run places out of business in exchange for "development".

From Jeff Buckley to Jeff Taylor, Sin-e was part of amazing music. So sad to see it go.

I loved Sin-e Bar. (the little neon-signed pub connected to sin-e club, on the corner of attorney & stanton) I could go in there, sit on the benches in the back and get away from everything that sucked about a long, cold night in nyc. playing my residencies there; meeting people, bringing friends to 'my spot' in the l.e.s..... *sigh.... So nice to reminisce. R.I.P. Sin-e.
