seeing wilco at hammerstein is WACK!!!
wait for them to come back and play a smaller venue where you can really enjoy that band.
It is going to happen
Hammerstein sucks!

Considering they can sell out multiple nights at larger venues like Radio City or MSG, do you really think waiting for them to play a smaller venue than Hammerstein is a viable option? Especially since even less tickets would be available??

I haven't been to Hammerstein in nearly two years, and in an ideal world, everyone would play the Bowery, and I'd get tickets every time, but sometimes you gotta just put up with wherever the artist plays and that's that. Like the pointless Webster Hall hate threads that always result anytime BV posts a show there. Either you go, or you don't.

the hammerstein's, fine if you're right down front on the floor (and never need to use the bathroom or have a drink) or in either of the 2 mezz sections.

if you're not in any of the above-listed locations, then, the hammerstein, even if architecturally beautiful, does indeed suck.

if it were to be at the pool i doubt it would be one of the free shows since it falls on a tuesday.

by the way, cat power, built to spill, and dirty delta blues are playing the pool on 7/7

Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2007 12:35 PM

you have to agree, though, that BV is the worst venue in NYC

Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2007 12:35 PM

if you wanted to see them at a smaller venue, you should of bought tickets to the count basie theater....the capacity is about only 1500, making it comparable to town hall.

cat power and b&s?!?! that sounds incredible!

Hammerstein is great for a large GA venue. Would you rather it be at Roseland? I think not...

NJ sold out as 1pm...some singles were left for awhile but they are now gone too.

Quit bitching, Hammerstein isn't nearly as awful as Chastain Park in ATL...impossible to get to, terrible staff, and it has to be over by 11pm due to noise restrictions. Plus Chastain is freakin' twice as big.

their stuff goes over better in medium sized venues like hammerstein anyways.

Ha!

Isn't that what you're doing, too!?

Okay, let's make everyone happy by declaring that, WILCO should've have played downstairs @ the 14th Guitar Center, instead.

Now, really, though - if NYU never bulldozed Palladium to build more dorms etc. this discussion would not be taking place.

get some seats at hammerstein...that new album is a real snoozer.

Posted by sam | April 13, 2007 1:29 PM

omg the new album is beautiful. its a gorgeous mellow album and i say album because the vinyl should sound so good when it comes out.
hammerstein is indeed terrible. I did not even bother trying to get tickets as i have seen wilco so many times before and this would just kill it.
This is a band that demands being heard in a much more intimate setting and not in some big cavernous place.
i know what the responses are going to be. Too bad the band got big etc etc blah blah blah.
The truth is they will play as well in a smaller venue in nyc on this tour. Wheather it be at this rumoured bklyn show or something later on in the tour. They love to do that and they always do that.
And that one I will get tickets for.

A Connecticut (New Haven?) should would be nice...right around the 27th or so. Hell, it's right on the way to Boston.

New album is fantastic! Seems very influenced by George Harrison (think... All Things Must Pass). Nels Cline is a guitar god.

If Wilco sell out Hammerstein almost instanteoulsy, why would the play smaller places (except for a one off show)? Think people, think.

Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2007 2:20 PM

They play smaller venues in select cities as one off shows because they enjoy playing there. Because they know the sound and the feel and the intimacy is better. Because they are a band that is not only about money and obtaining as much of the almighty dollar as they can.
I believe it is you, mr 2:20pm who needs to stop and think before opining.

Who said hammerstein has to be over at 11. I saw guns n roses there last may and the show didn't start until after 11.

Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2007 2:50 PM

the snobbery is obnoxious

Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2007 2:58 PM

for most shows at hammerstein (not obviously including late shows), curfew is at 11. if the band goes over, they have to paya fee or something.

Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2007 2:59 PM

I got 4 on the floor for the Red Bank show. Futtin' stoked.

Read people, read.

11pm is probably the union cutoff time. After that, union labor charges more.

The Hammerstein is not bad as far as 3000 person venues go. Why the hate?

DDD,

I know this is BROOKLYN Vegan but let's talk Atlanta:

Would you rather Wilco play at HiFi Buy? or how about the Gwinnett Arena? Or better yet, how about the Southern Star Amp at Six Flags?
Atl is missing good venues. Echo closed. Variety too small. Roxy BLOWS! They played the Fox last time and I couldn't GIVE away tickets. Tabby is the only good place in this town. And Tweedy just played there a month ago!

the brooklyn show is most definitely not at the pool. new album rules.. hardly a snoozer. it will be even more beautiful live.
