Bjork & Antony @ Apollo Theater, NYC - pics
" It´s been a gorgeous pleasure to get to know antony , he is very very special . Incredibly generous person . I feel blessed ." [Björk]

These photos are from Bjork's show at the Apollo Theater in NYC on Tuesday night May 8th. They sang "The Dull Flame of Desire" off Bjork's new album Volta. They did the same thing at United Palace and at Radio City.
Spank Rock opened.

Thank goodness *someone* was able to get pictures, security was all over the people where I was sitting, making them put away anything with a backlight/LCD.
I was at Coachella and all three NYC shows and last night was my favorite by far (that may have been because I had the best seats so far, or maybe because it was the longest). Björk and her crew were amazing as usual, but the crowd was far more into it now that we're all more familiar with the music. A couple of people even brought flags for Declare Independence! And some of security was dancing in the aisle for that one (in between telling people off).
Set List:
Cover Me
Earth Intruders
Venus as a Boy
Aurora
Dull Flame of Desire
Immature
I See Who You Are
Pleasure is All Mine
All is Full of Love
Jóga
Bachelorette
Army of Me
Innocence
Wanderlust
Hyper-ballad
Pluto
==========
Oceania
Declare Independence

Special as in retarded? He does look like someone with Downs Syndrome.

Wow. Bjork is still incredibly beautiful... Father Time has treated her kindly. What is she, like 45 now?

I caught the Saturday show and the the Bjork/Antony "Dull Flame" duet was magical.
I always thought of Bjork as other-worldly and Antony surely sounds like he's from another planet (in a good way).
It kind of reminded me of the Morrissey/Siouxsie "Interlude" collaboration.
I give it five out of five spaceships.

She's 41, anon 12:47, and I agree completely.

Christopher and pretty girl: get a room! Just like, hopefully, the two guys sitting in the lower box to stage right did right after the show.

I wonder if Antony will tour with Bjork for the summer Volta dates. It would be great if he opened!

after strongly considering taking the night off after a very draining sleepless weekend, and arcade fire on Monday...i rallied some energy to go up to see bjork at the apollo on a solo mission. there were a bunch of peoples looking for tickets and tons of shady scalper dudes (being harlem and all). anyhow.,..after about 20 minutes this (cute european) girl walks up to me and offers me her ticket...id assumed she got in a fight with her friend/date or whatever and was just leaving so i happily handed her 100 bucks...and it turns out this cuntbag fuckwad moron had bought a ticket from a scalper...tried to go in, was turned away because her ticket was counterfeit and decided that she should just make it my problem that shes a gallon of douche juice so...i spent the 100 bucks and got shut out of the show .

The security cracking down on cameras/cameraphones was actually a nice change I thought. Getting tired of being distracted by a sea of LCD screens at every show I go to (The Knife was the worst case of this). That said, kudos to whomever annoyed the people around them to get these.

of all three shows in NY, which was everyone's favorite? i went to radio city and united palace...how did apollo compare?
Posted by Sasha | May 10, 2007 12:02 AM
apollo was the best by far!!!

From the clever curtain down "Cover me" to "Independance" the Apollo show was just magical. A fan since day one, this was my first time seeing her perform. There's only a handfull of female voices in musical history that she's in the same league with: Maria Callas, Edith Piaf, Joni Mitchell and Judy Garland to name a few.
The pleasure was all OURS Tuesday night, Bjork!!

I had a feeling Apollo was the place to see her.
