Isn't this the kind of promotion that major labels charge an artist an arm and a leg for? While I'm sure Bright Eyes isn't getting ripped off in this case, it can't be cheap.

you're right. it's not cheap. but it doesn't cost any more or less for an indie to do it vs. a major. and while i'm at it, major labels don't charge artists for promotions...it's not a recoupable expense.

KM-
That depends on the deal...promotions are quite often a recoupable expense.
And that Bright Eyes record is getting all kinds of major-label type promotion. You couldn't throw a baseball without hitting a Bright Eyes balloon or postcard at SXSW.

bright eyes did sign to universal in europe.. but im assuming that marketing money wouldn't extend itself across the ocean to ny/austin/etc.?? hes also got the publishing deal with sony, but i am also assuming they dont pump dollars into this sort of thing when you just have the publishing part going on.

This should be a tax write-off, he's saving us from looking at an ad for some major luxury condo development or Spiderman III or Tangeruay.
I wonder if that paint glows in the dark. That would be cool.

Dude - He's EVERYWHERE!!! And he's terrified of people? He promotes himself like crazy but still wants to be known as the "don't talk to me artiste?" I'm not so sure about him anymore...... If he wants everyone to like him, he should start liking them back!

He doesn't have to like you personally for his record label pay to put up an ad. It isn't an advertisement seeking people to be friends with Conor. It is promoting a record album and some live shows. Also, he doesn't promote himself. His record label promotes him. He writes music and performs it. Further, he doesn't want everyone to like him. But even if he did, he wouldn't be friends with you because you are obviously desperate and insecure.

I hope people are simply joking with the "nice butt" jokes. It's pretty flat, not great at all.
