I went Tuesday and it was incredible (but a bit too loud for Town Hall's flawless sound), I can't wait to go again tonight.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2007 10:38 AM

Dear Ticketholder,
skip out of work early and make sure you see the Giiilan Welch set. She kicked ass.
But if you must work, Bright Eyes went on about 930.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2007 10:44 AM

Set times for Friday 5/25 and Weds 5/30 were very consistent.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2007 12:34 PM

hey pretty girl are you there? I am excited for the show on Friday! Who do you think the special guest will BE???

I am keeping my fingers crossed for Sufjan.

obvs.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2007 12:37 PM

I bet M. Ward tonight and Jim James tomorrow.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2007 1:02 PM

the haters are totally slacking today! I want to hear all about how bright eyes sucks along with anyone who likes them. C'mon people!

Posted by Lee | May 31, 2007 1:19 PM

I may be crazy, but I don't think that "The Boss" is too far fetched.

Posted by treece | May 31, 2007 1:24 PM

ron sexsmith's supposed to be the special guest tomorrow.
source: google led me to his myspace.

Posted by keith | May 31, 2007 2:30 PM

Sexsmith's website actually has June 1st, Town Hall listed on his website.

Well, if this isn't anti-climactic.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2007 2:38 PM

well, he could just be a smaller, random guest for one song or two. seems like the main special guests have been getting their own mini-set (2 of own songs then one with conor), and other special guests have just played along with bright eyes. like last night nick zinner just played on some songs, and ben gibbard played own songs. so hopefully this sexsmith character is just silently guesting on guitar or something of the sort and not the main guest.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2007 3:06 PM

I think he's big enough to play a few songs, plus he's a singer/songwriter. It would be weird if he showed up just to play guitar. I don't know much about him, but apparently he counts coldplay, radiohead, dylan, and paul mccartney among his fans (wikipedia). On NPR you can listen to a live set of him.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=6787015

I think he sounds pretty cool. I look forward to hearing him live.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2007 3:12 PM

He wrote that song 'secret heart' that feist covered. that's pretty cool.

Posted by Lee | May 31, 2007 4:24 PM

does anyone know the maria taylor songs that they performed last night (the 30th)?

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2007 4:57 PM

i wonder if conor owns more than one white suit.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2007 6:24 PM

Not one single anti-Bright Eyes post.

Posted by Congradulations, Haters | May 31, 2007 7:30 PM

Oberst! His plan is working... play here every night until he breaks the spirits of even the crustiest of NYC Haters

Posted by Beeeeve | May 31, 2007 8:02 PM

anon 4:57pm,
not sure about the others, but one maria taylor song that was performed [i think the last one.. the 'classic'] is called 'song beneath the song' from her album 11:11.

Posted by kelly | May 31, 2007 10:32 PM

guest tonight was Steve Earle. also Maria Taylor again, and Jason Bissell, and two other people (who were they?).

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2007 11:53 PM

question:
anyone else seeing the influence that the Wire is having on c.o.? "bodies decomposing in containers tonight in an abandoned building..."? he's obvi a big steve earle follower and we all know how killer steve's cameo in season one was...

whew. that was a real dream of a show tonight, p.s...

except for the parts where I wished it was an earle/rawlings/welch show where they occasionally sang bright eyes songs...

Posted by katchoo | June 1, 2007 12:15 AM

"this sexsmith character"

Are you serious? Ron Sexsmith is a pretty big name. Not Bruce big, but he has been around for many many years and released many great albums. His name is more widely known than Conor Oberst. (not saying either is better). Give him some freaking respect.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2007 12:45 AM

Z Berg (of The Like) sang backup with Maria on Cleanse Song. I don't remember any other guest besides those mentioned.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2007 12:45 AM

Nah, I was hoping it would be M. Ward for the final show on friday however, he is supposedly playing a show in colorado, so thats a no go. however, expectations are pretty high being that this is the last night of the whole tour. i at least hope they break shit if nothing else

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2007 1:25 AM

what songs did Earle sing, and sing-along with?

Posted by jack | June 1, 2007 1:31 AM

I thought the show was great. steve earle was a real joy and to walk past gillian welch and be like "hello there" is something else.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2007 8:40 AM

I think the last special guest will be Britt from Spoon. In fact, I'll bet money on it.
You may begin (to my dismay) trashing Spoon... now!

no way... ever since he grew his hair out ... conor now looks like yo mamma!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2007 9:23 AM

made my brother and girlfriend go see this show, and they both have hated bright eyes for quite some time, and both left with a new appreciation and semi-love for the music. hard to hate when it's good.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2007 10:53 AM

steve earle is such a putz. he's an absolute blow-hard. happens to be right about most political issues. but he's got a nasty spirit. used to like him until I saw him live. never again.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2007 10:59 AM

who's jason bissell? you don't mean charles bissell of the wrens do you?

Posted by one of them | June 1, 2007 11:14 AM

Jim James is still a distinct possibility....

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2007 11:50 AM

I believe Steve Earle guested on 4 songs with BEs.

1. God, is Bush horrible or what?
2. I mean come on, he is really horrible, right?
3. Damn remember how much fun we had on the Vote For Change tour Conor?
4. Under Bush the whole world has gone to hell.

Actually I love Steve Earle and would love to see him with BEs but sometimes the above is what his solo shows start to sound like. He is a rocker with amazing knack for writing great songs, he just needs to lay off the heavy politics sometimes.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2007 11:53 AM

The show was amazing. Conor has become such a performer over the past few years. He ran that stage last night! One of the best Bright Eyes shows I've ever seen. Setlist?

any good (and by good, i mean cheap) bars within a few blocks of town hall?? i would imagine the prices because of the location are crazily high, so just wondering if anyone knows a nice place.. thanks

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2007 12:53 PM

Theres a decent place right next door to Town Hall. It gets crowded before shows, but since there are going to be a lot of under 21ers there, i dont think itll be too bad.

go back to your 2 bit town hipster... whether Long Island, NY or Dubuque, IA... where they have unlimited refills of pepsi and mountain dew ... or pour some $$ into the local economy and give something back instead of taking all of the time ... you cheap fuck! :)

RE: any good (and by good, i mean cheap) bars within a few blocks of town hall??

There aren't any good bars in this area, but Rudy's Bar & Grill is on 43rd and Ninth, two blocks west of Town Hall. Cheap beer, free hot dogs, something of a legendary dive bar.

i must say i take quite a bit of offense to that.. being born in the city, raised there, and just moved back about a year ago. time square gets more than enough $$ poured into its economy. and plus, i've been caffeine free for 2 years. but thanks anyway.

I have been listening to Bright Eyes for many years now, and seen him a bunch of times. This is my third show at Town Hall, once for the last tour. It never fails, between songs, yelling stuff out that neither funny nor clever. Its beyond cheesy. I did have to voice my opinion and let there clowns know that they should 'go back to Brooklyn.' Kind of sad, considering I was born and raised there.

i'd imagine that anyone born and raised in the city knows that there is no such place as "time square.."

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2007 2:53 PM

an S here, an S there. whoop. i mean whoops.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2007 3:05 PM

Actually the correct spelling is: Disney Square

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2007 3:15 PM

" i did have to voice my opinion and let there clowns know that they should 'go back to Brooklyn."

that clears some things up. i thought you were yelling at Conor and maybe he did too. i thought to myself, Conor doesn't live in Brooklyn.

and for the record: JANET WEISS IS ROCK!
