Flight of the Conchords

We hosted a Flight of the Conchords (FOTC) contest. Some winners won passes to a screening of the first episode of the new HBO series. Now EVERYONE - even those who don't have HBO (like me) - can watch the first episode thanks to the kind folks at HBO.com. Look for appearances by UCB, Rififi and Union Hall regulars Arj Barker, Eugene Mirman, and Kristen Schaal.

Kristin SchaalSpeaking of Kristen Schaal who was also a guest on the 24 Hour Human Giant Marathon on MTV, we asked all those entering the FOTC contest to tell us who their favorite stand up comedian was. We got something like 50 comedian names total, but these were - by a small margin - the top seven:

your favorite comedians
1) Demetri Martin
2) David Cross
3) Mitch Hedberg
4) George Carlin
5) Aziz Ansari (tie)
5) Brian Posehn (tie)
5) Kristen Schaal (tie)

That's right - you like Kristen Schaal as much as you like Aziz Ansari who you like just as much as Brian Posehn WHO LOVES METAL.........

Brian Posehn is Metal

Brian also appears in Human Giant, the Sarah Silverman Program, Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Reno 911, Flight of the Conchords, is one of Patton Oswalt's Comedians of Comedy, and used to write for the David Cross' Mr. Show (and stuff). It's one big alterna-comedy web.

And speaking of Brian Posehn in a Mastodon shirt, Mastodon also played the Human Giant marathon (yeah, so did the National -blah, blah - JUST KIDDING)......

Mastodon on MTV at noon
Mastodon on Human Giant

How were Mastodon and Cursive at Roseland Ballroom?

And speaking of speaking of Human Giant and their 24 Hour Marathon that Mastodon played - in case you weren't watching during the last hour when they officially announced it - Human Giant (Aziz, Paul Scheer & Rob Huebel) WILL be back for a second season on MTV. Congrats to them.

Michael Showalter, one of their many other guests, also confirmed the upcoming release of all four seasons of MTV's the State on DVD - with extras and all that. I'm very excited. Michael Showalter's appearance was also one of the tensest moments in television. I loved it. If you don't know what I mean, read this related interview at Radar.

and now the obligatory Human Giant Ted Leo performance....

So you read this far, but did you watch the first episode of Flight of the Conchords yet? What did you think? I'm not about to order HBO, but I like it. A little bit like Tenacious D which... I don't know. I just needed to work that in.

See Flight of the Conchords live on tour.

Really? I had no idea Demetri Martin was so popular. That makes me ridiculously happy. He and Rob Paravonian make me laugh until it hurts.

i went to the 24 hour marathon and it was certainly a test of wills. mtv takes everything that you have away from you and doesn't feed you even if you are there for hours. we had to ask for water twice and got it an hour later. oh well at least i got to sit next to gob and george michael.

I went too, and was not happy that they took my cell phone, camera and keys at the door which was barely guarded by some nitwits. One girl had a credit card in her pocket, and they made her check that too.

I like the first Conchords ep. Definitely draws a lot from the tone of the U.K. Office, but that's a good thing.

i also went to 24 hours with human giant and i could see why some people didn't like the way they treated the audience. after mastodons performance, i went to get my hoodie and also grabbed my cell phone and everything they took away. then i asked "shadow" (the coordinator) if i could watch ted leo in the other room and in there was tons of snacks that they let us eat. also if you didn't notice, there was piles and piles of free water and red bull just sitting around everywhere. the point is, if you acted like a subordinate drone, they treated you like one. but if you acted like they were lucky to have you in the audience, you got everything you asked for.

i have to agree that mtv was way nicer to me than i thought they would be, shadow was a pretty nice guy if you talked to him. and the fact that you got to see as many bands and comedians as you did was well worth sitting around for the downtime.

schaal is the tops

yeah i would agree. i called shadow at 9pm on friday night after almost missing the message that said i could come watch. he told me the only stipulation was that i was not visibly drunk. being sober in times square on 2am friday night is kinda weird.

i agree, with brett on the drone thing. we kinda pushed our way out of the performance room and made into the room with couches and got to watch andy sandberg and the lonely island guys and get free cookies and that fat baby dude. overall we were thre three hours and was pretty awesome.

does anyone have a clip of the showalter interview with them? really want to see it.
