looks like coachella with the white stripes. any word on the other headliners?

The White Stripes and Bjork are headlining the first two days-I am pretty sure of that. The rumors going around are that the Arcade Fire will play the festival again (Win Butler is a Texan) And the third headliner is rumored to either be Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan or Neil Young or Dylan and Young doing a set together. The whole lineup is announced on May 10th.

A lot of Austin bands (Spoon, Explosions in the Sky, Ghostland Observatory, etc.) are also playing. It's a more roots rock festival than a lot of the others-I am really surprised and happy that they got Bjork-she hasnt played Austin since the mid nineties.

All these festival lineups that are NOT in New York are super but what about Siren? Are they even doing one this year?

"All these festival lineups that are NOT in New York are super but what about Siren? Are they even doing one this year?"

Arent they tearing down Coney Island this year? I dont know if they could even have a Siren festival this year. It was never very good anyway. And as for the all the good festivals are outside of the NYC area, true...because NYC isnt that great of a city anymore. Or at least its overrated. Sad but true. The cool stuff comes through here, it doesnt come from here and where exactly is the space to hold a big festival like ACL or Coachella?

ACL, where i go every year, is SO not roots-rock... but it IS more eclectic than similar fests. it def. gives some smaller stage time to C&W like willie nelson and pulls in some bigger more conventional acts like petty and van morrison. but massive attack closed saturday night last year and you can always expect to see a huge bit of quality "indie" bands from spoon, decemberists, bloc party to raconteurs, gnarls, muse and phoenix. galactic did play last year but i just kept walking...

charles, "NYC isnt that great of a city anymore"? you're comparing this to what and in what sense? as a music festival venue? if you mean that then you're wrong b/c it was never great as that but as a music venue it's still one of the best. or, for that matter, on the majority of other "city" measures... WTF are you talking about?!?

btw, coney island is around ALL summer... the last one. not sure about siren though...

NEW YORK ISN'T THAT GREAT OF A CITY!!!?!?!?!

What a terrible thought. And yes Siren has always been roundly criticized but allow me to point out that New York's hipsters could use a day in the sun trolling around with comoners, band selection was at worst filled with a number of gems and at best filled with the best of a certian level of band (many of whom would go onto larger notariety).

Also to see the joy on my little brothers 15 year old face watching Art Brut last year damned near brought a tear to my eye. It's the most easily accessible window into indie rock for people who don't regularly brave the Bowery or Northsix, people who are maybe not so keyed in or perhaps simply too young. It's a beautiful day and I hopw that they do it this year. What's more I hope they find a fresh place for it.

If they do or don't that will not change the fact that New York is almost always in a cultural boon. Just ask Animal Collective, Liars, Antony, Bright Eyes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Hold Steady, The Rapture, Ghostface, Sonic Youth, Fiery Furnaces, El-P, Marnie Stern, Beirut, LCD Soundsystem, Les Savy Fav...

i'd have to agree with charles. ACL is definitely more roots-rock..no electronica and no hip-hip equals NOT eclectic. i really like ACL, and id like to go this year..but its definitely not very eclectic compared to other fests like coachella or lolla.

Very glad to see Andrew Bird near the top of the lineup!

ACL is a good festival but not even the best music fest that goes on in the city every year. That goes to SXSW festival which is the pinnacle of my life each year.

They somewhat fixed the problem with the grass/dust bowl from 2005, but it could have been better.

It would be worth going merely to see The Decemberists! Too bad NYC is so far away...

I'd love to go to Austin, too.

ACL 2005 was a highlight of my life... I want to go back so badly!
