The National The BoxerTwo of the year's most anticipated indie rock albums are released tomorrow, the National's Boxer and Voxtrot's self-titled debut full-length. Of this week's releases, I can also especially recommend Battles' Mirrored, Hot Chip's edition of DJ Kicks, Meg Baird's Dear Companion, Parts & Labor's Mapmaker, Shapes And Sizes' Split Lips, Winnings Hips, A Shiner, Stars' Do You Trust Your Friends?, and Wheat's Everyday I Said A Prayer For Kathy And Made A One Inch Square.

For people (like me) who like their rock with a literary bent, check out the Bloodshot Records compilation Just One More: A Musical Tribute To Larry Brown, A Great American Author. What new releases can you recommend this week?

White Rabbits album is ace. That band is going to do big things....also, they're AMAZING live.

White Rabbits suck, and their label likes to anonymously comment.

that's true at least on one count

I really liked Shapes and Sizes at Cake Shop the other day. They are elastic and intelligent and very listenable.

I, not posting anonymously, will say that I dig the White Rabbits. haven't seen 'em live though, so no comment on that front.

That National disc, though. Boy howdy, that's good stuff.

Voxtrot album kicks ass. It took me a few listens, but there are some really quality tracks in there. I didn't care much for "Stephen," but the other ones are really good. I think "Firecracker" and "Brother in Conflict" are the main standouts of the album other than "Kid Gloves."

Am I the only one really disappointed with the new battles? I really enjoy the early stuff, but the vocals on the new record just annoy the piss out of me.
