Wow, that song isn't that good. Damn. Well..maybe not "not good," but agreed on taking it or leaving it.
I was tempted to see them down at Virgin Fest, but thankfully the voice of reason stepped up and forced me to book my flight to Chicago.

pretty meh recording, but i could see it kicking ass live. still no word on who else is in the lineup?

Thanks for the up, BV.
Philosophically speaking, everything comes from some place or some thing, and this sounds a bit like Green Day (verse) careening into Cheap Trick (bridge & chorus) along with Billy's satisfying his Tommy Iommi urges.
Where the heck is Robin Zander when you really need him?
In sum, a nice, sped-up rewrite of "Bullet With Butterfly Wings," with (better) harmonies.

return of the meh.
about as good as anything on 'Machina' (read: who cares?)

It's certainly not a disaster of a song. Doesn't blow me away, but I'm sure it will be pretty solid live and it gives me some hope for the album as a whole.
And as an aside, what is with bloggers and blog readers using the terms "meh" and "just sayin". I had never come across these terms until recently and now they seem to be normal course language on every indie music site. Probably just more hipster groupthink.

fuck you all, i said meh back when I was 2.
I said it repeatedly while flailing my rattle right before barfing up mushed carrots.

well played, jump kicked baby. well played. :)
still no word on the lineup though, huh.

Huh, I just spent an hour ripping/trimming/converting the song to MP3, then I come here and see that manyhighways beat me to it, and out-smarted me too by just using a flv2mp3.com.
Oh well. If that link stops working, I also converted it to MP3, and posted it to my blog:

Enjoy!

Hell yes Billy got mad! There is a lot to piss everyone off right now and I think this CD will put all of that into song. I have now heard the song a couple of times and it is getting better each time. May not be the 'main stream' sound people were thinking it would be but how do you create a stir by sounding like everyone else? Good job Mr. Corgan.

The more I listen to it the more I love it!!! Can't wait to hear it live!

i love it.
ive listened to it more than a couple of times and it grows and grows
sounds like a mix between really early pumpkins like white spyder/sp and moon demos and machina II, zwan (jesus i/gods gonna set this world/settle down) stuff. his voice is zwan soundy, the bass line is quick and heavy like early pumpkins, the drums are...well, the drums are jimmy brilliant as ever. it builds and fades with just the right about of grrr at the right time. i reckon it'll be brilliant live. it doesnt have that same melodic push as siamese dream for example, the guitars are heavy more like billy's solo stuff, but it comes together and it keeps coming with every listen. i think the albums going to be great, theres no point expecting it to be like any of the other albums, none of them ever where, it'll be new and different, it'll be zeitgeist, and itll be good

was expecting a lot worse. does that count as liking it?

The first time I heard the 30-second clip, I was incredibly turned off, and assumed that this must have just been a popier some unreleased crap from the Machina era. However, every time I listen to the song in full, I realize exactly what its supposed to do; rock, hard. It does just that. The song sounds close to what bottled anger would sound like, and grows on me every time I listen to it. The guitar riff sounds awesome, I just wish I could stand his voice a little bit more. It complements the overall feeling of the song I suppose, but I'm just not a very big fan of his voice in general. This single serves as a great return announcement, but I hope dearly that the rest of the album doesn't sound exactly like this. The Pumpkins, imho, are often best with their slower, more toned down songs, and I'm worried that the album wont have the same complexity with only two band members as it would have.

I think that Billy Corgans voice is awesome it is so unique just like their music. That is what makes them so great they are different than main stream, I think their slow stuff is great but their hard stuff is even better! I am overjoyed that pumpkins are back.

sounds alot like the song off of the batman sndtrk

Dude the song rocks.
It brings the essence of the pumpkins back!
I disagree with anyone who says it's 'meh'.
It's brilliant.

This song isn't good at all. What the hell is up with the guitar solos everywhere? It gets good when it drops a little Geek USA-like near the end then dumps back into that terrible noise. I hope the rest of the album doesn't sound like this.

i figure, you're still in your early teens for you to come-up with a comment like that.. pumpkins still rock!!!
Posted by dre | June 4, 2007 4:22 AM
I'm suprised at the comments, I've never been much of a pumkins fan, but I think this song is great. Rock is good. And this song does it well.

They're playing Asheville for the first part of their american tour. Apparently there is no set list because they are going to be writing the material the day of the show...? wtf? it's all at smasheville.com

The song simply rocks. It's actually kind of clever if you listen closely to the parts and how they work with eachother and with the lyrics. There definately alot of Gish/Siamese/MCIS guitar stuff going on in the song, but that's because that's how Billy writes songs and plays guitar... it's his style. But it's still a fresh sound and very relevant. It's a brilliant little tune. Billy hasn't lost a thing. He just took a long nap. But now he's all rested up. He had to replace a couple people, but I give him credit for not letting that stop him. Kudos to the new tune and for his decision to reform and press on, despite two member's unwillingness. I'm anxious to hear what other goodies are on the CD.
