Are Muse as big as the White Stripes? Are the White Stripes as big as Muse? The White Stripes are playing Madison Square Garden on July 24th. Muse and the Cold War Kids are playing Madison Square Garden on August 6th - right after they both play Lollapalooza in Chicago (August 3-5).
White Stripes tickets go on sale Friday at 9am.
Muse/CWK tickets on sale Sunday at 11am.

Muse certainly are big enough in europe but I have my doubts about them being able to fill up the garden.
Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2007 1:00 PM
muse can maybe pull it off but might be tough. they could do that size in LA, they're much bigger there.
Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2007 1:19 PM
My god are you kidding? Id give anything to go to the Muse MSG gig - its a matter of transportation and money, both or which I dont have. I think MSG will be pretty much filled up, though! Muse are much bigger in LA and NYC than the rest of the US.

They played the Hammerstein last! How are they going to do the garden on the second swing through on this tour?!

The Whites Stripes presale was yesterday. you're slacking off
Posted by FrixFrixFrix | May 1, 2007 1:35 PM
your mother was yesterday
Posted by sopu | May 1, 2007 1:40 PM
You sure its not the MSG theater?
Posted by Reg! | May 1, 2007 1:44 PM
I hope FrixFrixFrix is not the same who complains about BV posting presale information.
Posted by Eduardo | May 1, 2007 2:04 PM
Weak dollar = lots of visitors in this city, now and in the summer - same folks will be buying seats to see some of their fav touring bands during their visits to New York City.
Posted by drewo | May 1, 2007 2:04 PM
i'm so glad the white stripes is GA Floor.....THAT'S whats gonna rock
Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2007 2:06 PM
Muse sold out The Forum in LA, so I'm not surprised they're playing MSG.
Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2007 2:17 PM
When they schedule events at the garden that they don't expect to sell out, they sometimes close up the 400 section and only sell seats at the 300 level and below. They still make more money than having the show at the theatre at msg as long as they sell more than 6000 or so tickets.
Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2007 2:28 PM
How much are the White Stripes tickets going for?
Posted by j | May 1, 2007 2:34 PM
stripes tickets are 49.50 without fees.
Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2007 2:35 PM
anyone know how much those GA Floor tix for white stripes cost?
Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2007 2:36 PM
They were $49.50. With all the fees, $55. I've only been to MSG where they didn't have GA Floor, so I'm correct in assuming that GA Floor is the section in front of the stage? I hope so, 'cause I'm super excited to be up close.
Posted by CD | May 1, 2007 2:42 PM
Why is it the White Stripes can charge $49.50 for tickets at MSG and noone on here has a problem with it but the Jesus and Mary Chain who are a better band reunite after 10 years to play a much smaller venue which is all general admission (their only east coast dates) and people bitch and complain because tickets are $45.00??
Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2007 2:46 PM
Any word on who may be opening up for the White Stripes?
Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2007 2:47 PM
i'd be happy to complain about the $49.50 ticket price for the white stripes at the garden.
"$49.50 to see the white stripes at the garden? awh, man... that sucks"
i was considering it, but i'm definitely not going now. fifty bucks to see them in such a huge venue is bullshit. the bigger the venue the cheaper the ticket ought to be. yes, i know why that's not the case, but i'm being idealistic.
Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2007 2:55 PM
Yeah it is alot for the MSG show I admit. Thats why I am going to Wallingford, CT 2 hours fron NYC. Waaay smaller venue, better sound and cheaper tickets. Scored some nice center orch tickets for that show for $44 a ticket after fees. Sure it is not a fun drive but atmosphere makes it worthwhile!
Posted by Craig | May 1, 2007 2:57 PM
I assume White Stripes at Garden after ticketmaster fees will be $60+ a ticket! Yikes!
Posted by Craig | May 1, 2007 2:58 PM
Wish I was a fan because they are playing the Grand Opera House in Delaware which is a small venue with great acoustics..
Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2007 3:02 PM
Seeing the White Stripes rocking the garden is something cool and different than the a theater show. A theater show is cool and all, but the loud and commanding sound of the WS is something that can be enjoyed in a big venue, in a different way. So to see Jack rock MSG, it will be worth the price of admission. granted i would never pay $55 to sit in the 300's, but i can't wait for this show, to be up fron in the pit. it will be better than Coney Island for sure.
Also, the FLOOR GA is not the entire floor. I was pulling reserved tickets in section 4,5,6 during the presale, so that leads me to believe that the front floor section will be GA, with the rest of the floor being seated. again awesome.
Posted by sticky icky | May 1, 2007 3:05 PM
i can't wait to get into my time machine and join you in the "PIT"

Re: "Why is it the White Stripes can charge $49.50 for tickets at MSG and noone on here has a problem with it but the Jesus and Mary Chain who are a better band reunite"
Umm..maybe because the year is 2007, not 1997...Jesus and Mary Chain haven't even sold out their 2 nights at Webster Hall....Peter Frampton used to sell out 50,000 seat stadiums at one time also.
Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2007 3:32 PM
Muse rule! can't wait to see them again
Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2007 3:45 PM
in what year will you be meeting us in the pit? I wasn't aware that term was so dated...
Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2007 3:46 PM
Is it a "mosh pit"?
Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2007 3:49 PM
cold war kids are opening for white stripes! it's a trap!
just kidding, i'm an asshole.
Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2007 3:50 PM
it is a "mosh pit" where we will "slam dance" and maybe even "pogo".
Posted by Ray Capo | May 1, 2007 3:54 PM
The Jesus and Mary Chain were quite an average band if you take into account all the albums they released. Psychocandy, yep. Darklands, yep. That B-Sides compilation, ok. But from Automatic onwards? Hmm.
Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2007 3:59 PM
I also am very surprised by the lack of interest there seems to be in the Jesus & Mary Chain show. I'm shocked really.
Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2007 4:08 PM
If you consider the JAMC to just be average, then I would be really curious as to what bands you consider to be above average????

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2007 4:16 PM
If $45 is too much for you to see the Jesus and Mary Chain, just go see the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club the following week and save $20!
Posted by j | May 1, 2007 4:56 PM
considering the average show at webster hall is about $20, $45 seems pretty high for JAMC. BRMC are ok, but $25 seems kinda high for them too.
I was really hoping JAMC would be in the $30-$35 range, given their past live history.
White stripes are pretty much always awesome... and show at the Garden are always expensive. When's the last $20-$30 show you went to at the Garden (especially for floor seats). $50 for floor at the Garden seems reasonable...
Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2007 5:03 PM
the last cheap show i saw at the garden was ralph nader in 2000. it was ten bucks!
Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2007 5:07 PM
Everybody think bands are a public utility and should be broke and entertain us. They need to make money and maybe if we stopped stealing their songs online ticket prices may not be so high?
Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2007 5:27 PM
Are Muse playing the Theatre or Arena ? seems like a theatre play
White Stripes are a mainstream multi-platinum act.....them at the arena is no surprise..they probably could have done it last tour but held out..
Posted by rt | May 1, 2007 5:40 PM
but Bono said Bruce Springsteen was not the Boss cause he worked FOR us. I'm so confused.
Posted by Anonymoose | May 1, 2007 5:43 PM
@ Eduardo:
The White Stripes presale was open to anyone who registered on their website (even if you just registered yesterday). I have no problem with a post advising people of a presale requiring no password. I do have a problem with posts containing presale passwords that otherwise require some previous effort by the fans.

This past Saturday, I saw muse play --- as an opener for My Chemical Romance.
Now, don't get me wrong that I was stoked to see Muse, but it's kind of pathetic that they were restricted to playing a 45-minute long opening set.
One of the few shows I've seen where the opener was leagues and leagues better. (though don't get me wrong; My Chemical Romance did put on a surprisingly entertaining show, even though they may not be the best musicians around).
I'd go see them play a headliner in a heartbeat.

Wrong date for Muse - the official site says 8/11 for the MSG show. Pre-sale Thursday.
Posted by bc | May 1, 2007 8:45 PM
BV is right, show is 8/6.

MUSE IS INCREDIBLE, THEY WILL SELL OUT THE GARDEN! If the Killers can do it they can do it easily.
Posted by Jon | May 2, 2007 7:59 AM
I am so excited about this! I hope they have GA area as well
Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2007 8:41 AM
if Dashboard Confessional can somehow do an MSG gig i dont see why Muse cant at least give it a shot. i think more people like them than we think....
Posted by george harrison | May 2, 2007 9:25 AM
Muse's music is worth an arena sized venue. I would say expect to drop at least 45 bucks per ticket
Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2007 9:35 AM
if OAR and Dispatch can sell out MSG, there is no reason why either of these guys cant.
Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2007 9:47 AM
hello and welcome to: muse at madison square garden at brooklynvegan.com brought to you the bowery presents at the fillmore new york at irving plaza
no but seriosuyl muse is made for venues like MSG. who cares if they sell out or not(probably will i think) it will soudn amazing and you know they will have some kinda crazy cool light show goin on.
Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2007 9:54 AM
Muse is the most arena rock band of our time, it will be amazing.
Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2007 10:05 AM
Muse is without a doubt one of the best live bands I have ever seen.
I love the Stripes, and they are great live, but I think Muse is actually better suited for the Garden than the Stripes as far as performances go.
That said, I really hate going to shows at MSG unless I am really close to the stage. Once you move off the floor, you just feel disconnected, and the sound starts to suck once you move back.
I am so used to small venues like Mercury Lounge or Maxwell's that once I am far from the stage, it almost feels like I am not even at the show anymore.

Muse story? Muse Ad on top? Is the Vegan mixing commerce and editorial? It's OK, I think I just started noticing ads on BV...
Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2007 10:43 AM
"This past Saturday, I saw muse play --- as an opener for My Chemical Romance."
Wait, Muse breathed the same air as, let alone _opened_ for, one of those emo/screamo/whatever bands whose name shall not be spoken? I sort of...faintly... see the logic, but it's still too repellent for words.
Moving on... As a long time Muse fan, I couldn't believe the venue either, but I picked up my jaw and will definitely pony up for tickets. They blew the roof off Hammerstein so I can only imagine what kind of genius rockness they'll bring down on a space like MSG, sold out or not. MSG isn't my favorite either but forget it, the sound techs can huff glue for the duration of the show and Muse will still kill it.
White Stripes in an arena? Hmm. Much respect to their great live shows but I'll pass.

So what exactly is needed for the presale for Muse on Thursday off ticketmaster? I've been looking for a password everywhere and don't see one and haven't gotten anywhere with the bands websites. Anyone have any info?
Posted by Diane | May 2, 2007 4:24 PM

jesus and mary chain were never big- but i bet the white stripes love them- that's the kind of band they are-
I'm psyched to see them at MSG- to me worth 50 bucks
It's biggest place I go- but have many times seen great concerts- N. Young, Cream, Grateful Dead, Rolling Stones- so why not white stripes?
Maybe they can get the Reid brothers to open!
