Secret Machines add 2nd semi-secret NYC show

Do The Secret Machines even still live in Brooklyn? I have no idea, but if they don't, then the reason they're in town is to play a show at the Highline Ballroom for the David Bowie-curated High line Festival this Saturday night (May 19). Tickets to that are (or were - you should check) sold out, but tickets are now definitely on sale for a second show at the Annex two nights earlier.

At the very least, they still live somewhere in New York City. I've seen them almost every weekday for the last 3-4 months in my neighborhood in Queens.

anyone know who's taking benjamin's place for these shows?

Are you a street vendor? I see even my next door neighbors like twice a month.

@Stark:

What are some of the nicer (yet affordable) neighborhoods in Queens? I'm doing some research, but I don't know where to start... Brooklyn seems pretty expensive.

Queens blows.

Spankrock & Ghost tonight.

nicer areas in queens are forest hills and astoria...

astoria has the only beer garden left in the city and it is a great music venue on the rare occasion it has been used as one!

sunnyside is not a bad place.

@ Mark B.

Try - Woodside, Sunnyside, Astoria, Forest Hills.

Astoria probably no longer fits many people's idea of affordable.

Probably not, but just like many areas it's all in the hunt.

No Benji replacement. SM are now a two person band. Seriously.

Wait...seriously...they don't have a replacement?!?! WTF??!? How are they going to play half their songs?

I can't imagine this is true...but if so...Anyone want to buy my tickets for Saturday night?

Thanks everybody - much appreciated!

Okay - SM is now a FOUR piece. The show started at 12:30am and my first impression was...holy fuck this is loud. I mean painful loud. They started with several new tunes that...all sounded the same because it was so damn loud. Great venue. Typical NY crowd. Did I mention is was loud? Crazy loud. If they start the Saturday night show with five or six new tunes....watch the crowd thin out rather quickly. It was a good time no doubt.

The drummer is a beast...other than that the show was meh at best. They really didn't want to be there. They played closer to 12:45 and the energy level was rather low.

i disagree. i think they were really feeling the new songs. maybe it's because i was retardedly fucked up, but it sounded damn good to me. i really liked how the new songs don't have that same "secret machines" rhythm that the first two albums had.

and put the drummer in the back. we know that josh and brendan are the 2 OG secret machines members, but he's a powerful drummer and i felt a little overpowered (in the bad way) sometimes.

overall, i was pleasantly surprised and i had a great time.
