Spank Rock @ Apollo Theater, NYC - pics
DOWNLOAD: Spank Rock - Bump (pink Skull Remix) (MP3)

I almost wrote that it was the wrong venue for Spank Rock to play, but then I remembered that we're talking about the legendary Apollo Theater here. In fact, even MC's Spank & Pase Rock dedicated their set to the late James Brown who played there many times (even after death). So I guess it could have been a party - actually Bjork was a party - it was just there wasn't really anybody in the place when Spank Rock started, and the people that were, were not about to get up out of their seats and start dancing (actually one guy sort of did).

it was too bad, because they were awesome. it looked like they still had another song to play but decided not to, since no one seemed into it.

Nobody (myself included) really seemed to care, except for one guy bouncing around off to the side (and even Spank Rock gave him a funny look). The only other audience reaction I noticed was the dude next to me asking "Did he just say what I think he said?" somewhat revoltedly (I may have just made a word up, sorry) after the "Make my dick racist" song.
Everyone was polite enough, though; there was minimal talking and no one was on the phone/texting because Apollo's security is seriously strict about that (however, they earned points for dancing during "Declare Independence" at the end of the night, IMO).

i don't know what was more entertaining, watching bjork, or watching the gay guy with the short shorts going nuts and singing his heart out in that booth to the left of the stage

I'd have to go with watching Bjork, but he was pretty damn amazing.

Bjork was absolutely incredible. She rocked the house.
