DOWNLOAD: Wilco - I Shall Be Released (live) (MP3)
DOWNLOAD: The Mountain Goats - The Boys are Back in Town (MP3)

David Weinberg was one of those who waited in line this afternoon (May 12, 2007) to get a ticket to see Wilco at Warsaw in Brooklyn. As you can see from the above voucher, they're taking the no-scalping thing very seriously.

"Franklin BROWN?" Do you really not know who that is? Sigh. That's really fucking sad.

HA. I meant "Bruno". Sometimes what I'm thinking and what I'm typing don't match. thx. fixing.

Oh, "Bruno Franklin," your editing abilities make me salivate. Especially when you're a massive dickhead about it.

Maybe the DVD will make me like the new Wilco album.

Nice crowd at the Warsaw today, I believe all if not close to all people who waited got tickets. Got there at 12:15, received tickets at 2pm. I was about 25 people from the end and they were close but not done yet with the sale so hopefully nobody was turned away. Very smoothly done, simply organized and went well, kudos to all involved on both sides.

Thanks for the photo credit & linking to my flikr. That show was rad, and my old-ass camera doesn't always keep up, but I try.

my friend said he got to Irving around 9:15, and was 30-something in line. By 12:15, everyone in line had a number, and they invited everyone in to Irving Plaza where the bar and bathrooms were open. At 1:00 they started calling numbers and selling tickets. He got his tickets around 1:15.
There was a scalper in front of him in line who also waited for hours, but dropped out and didn't get tickets after he found out about the vouchers.

John Darnielle covering Thin Lizzy! I love it!

I got on line at Irving at 11:20, got a number and an invite to the lobby at 12:15, and had my voucher by about 2 PM. I was number 119. When I left, however, there were still at least 50 people in line outside. Some of them got tickets, but probably not all. It was an extremely well-organized process, and the anti-scalping security is impressive. They wrote down my drivers license number! Once you pick up your tickets on concert night, you can't leave the venue, so scalpers are out of luck.
looks like it's an "evening with Wilco"? i.e., no opening act ??
Thanks, BV, for clueing me into this ! It makes up for my stupidly missing out on AF at Judson Church

There were still scalpers in line getting tickets. They just have to go themselves but they can still sell one ticket to someone as their guest
And you can bet close to showtime those one tickets will be worth a lot of money

Holy crazy John Darnielle show. The crowd spilled out onto the sidewalk and all over North 11th there were so many people. There were people peering in windows and shit.

Great Mountain Goats show!! It was really hot and John played an aggresive set of really obscure songs. They also had an Extra Glenn's reunion which was sweet.

Low's site indicates they're also playing Warsaw.

Re: Low
Shit, you are right ! It's a bonus !
PS: regarding scalpers: it's true a scalper can still stand in line for 2 hours and get rights to 2 tickets, one of which can be sold on craiglslist or wherever. But it's a lot of work (2 hours on line plus at least an hour at the venue) and the profit realized, even if you sell the plus-one at $200, is only $130. ($200 minus your $70 investment). Unless you are already a fan, or unless the ticket is going for way OVER 200, it's not really worth it--hence, i think the plan pretty much eliminates scalping as most of us understand it.

To anon 11:55am-who said you had to stand on line for 2 hours??? As you can see from a few of the posters here and on other blogs, some people showed up as late as 12:30 for the 1pm ticket sale and still got tickets. And i think Irving had sold everything in an hour. So at total that is at most 1 and a half hour. But who can put a price on time spent or wasted however you see it.
For that matter who can put a price on what the monetary value of a ticket it. 130 dollar profit to you might be nothing and yet be something to someone else. You are assuming when you say scalper that it is some big giant organization with huge overhead. Plenty of small scalpers out there as well. Plus, what is to say if they put one guy on the line they cant put 20 or 30 on the line. Then the profit margin goes up. All the guy has to do is show up that night and present the voucher. He has to go in the venue right after that but nothing says he cant then walk out. And with a show like this where there will not be many tix available cause of the policy i can assure you that come a day or 2 before this show, the tickets will be going for far more than 200 dollars.
Posted by Anonymous | May 14, 2007 1:33 PM
Anon 1:33, you may be right. There are already tix on craigslist in the $200 range. But at least the venue did all that was humanly possible to keep the scalping down. The only more effective technique would be to do it exactly as they did it but cut the allotment to ONE ticket per purchaser. Greed is inescapable. But so is sincere fandom.
