Beana Bern took some pictures at the show last night....

Albert Hammond Jr @ Webster Hall

It is unknown whether or not Albert was inside the limo seen leaving the venue after the show. Were you there, or did you see Panda Bear instead?

Comments (27)

anyone attend albert's gig last night?

if so, any changes & additions, setlist-wise (covers, strokes, new material)?

is the frank black tune still being played?

still the same band members?

encored with new song. involved blind melon-esque "ooh's" (re: "no rain") tightest I've seen them play. Also did an awesome Cars cover.

the dude from the battles joined him on stage and they counted all his trust fund money for the encore, it was awesome.

He played a new song for the encore. It was unfinished...he had the music and melody figured out, but substituted in random words for the lyrics. Sounded really good.

They played one cover, I believe it was a Cars song.

I was there last night. Fairly solid set, with no Strokes, one pretty good Cars cover, and way too many insipid teenage girls in the audience.

hey well as long as there were teenage girls there --

Posted by Anonymous | June 19, 2007 4:23 PM

Well at least this time he was on the stage playing instead of in the vip area like he is for EVERY fucking show in nyc

You all missed his Stone Pony gig on Friday night. I know that because no one was there. AH and Co blew the doors off the place.

"Well at least this time he was on the stage playing instead of in the vip area like he is for EVERY fucking show in nyc"

Is that a diss on him being both a music fan, and a very important music fan at the same time, or just an observation?

Which is the less of 2 evils? Drunkened moshing fratboys or teenage girls?

Posted by Anonymous | June 19, 2007 4:47 PM

Teenage girls — they're much easier to push around.

Posted by Anonymous | June 19, 2007 4:55 PM

I disagree, at least for me. I have no problems throwing drunken moshing fratboys to the ground. They deserve it and don't really seem to mind. Plus, when they bounce back up, if you stare them down, they move away. Quickly.

Even with earplugs, the annoying "I Love You, Albert!" doesn't go away, drowning out everything else. And, since I have some level of humanity, I won't hit any girl, let alone an insipid teenager.

Oh, and by far the best part of last night's show was Longwave guitarist/singer Steve Schiltz, who played lead guitar. He was fantastic, completely overshadowing anything that AHJ did. Very impressive.

how strict is webster hall with checking ids?

generally, if you give the bouncer $100 with your ticket, he'll give you a wristband.

I find it odd that so many people who post on this blog seem to have disdain for young people who like music and like to attend shows as if all along rock and roll has been directed at jaded 20 and 30-somethings who hate their lives and their jobs instead of teenagers who still find a shitload of meaning in bands. I understand that a lot of people who got turned on to "indie rock" during the post Arcade Fire and Shins era have absolutely no concept of how important all-ages shows have been to undeground music, but still...it's quite a drag. And for the record I'm 31 and came of age in the glorious early-to-mid 90s indie rock all ages scene.

i find it odd that anyone gives a shit what people post under comments on blogs... young vs. old, ian vs. albert, etc. its anonymous people posting stuff, stuff that is sometimes funny (and so i laugh) and stuff that is sometimes stupid (so i ignore). and then i forget about it an hour later.

Posted by lewislfowler | June 19, 2007 8:56 PM

Why did you give a shit enough to respond to what I wrote then?

it's called discourse, and the (ongoing) circulation of thoughts and ideas vis-a-vis words: written and otherwise.

what's the point of blogging if everyone passively reads?

by the way, cool last name.

FWIW, your post is really good, Will. Most sensible item I've read on here all day.

Rock without youth is not rock at all.

Rock without youth is not rock at all.

Amen.

it's about time people notice his talents! longwave are playing luna lounge on friday. you should go if you weren't already planning on it. they're so great live

True, youth in rock and roll is great. Keeps it different, alive and fun. Screaming girls and rowdy boys of any age, not so great. But, if you're young, sexy, fuck it, even if you're my age and generally cool, let's go see another show together.

btw, I didn't go to this show but another @ the bowery a few months back... and I have to agree, AHJ attracts the hottest young ladies!!! My friends and I just couldn't believe our eyes. Note to self: go to more AHJ shows!

(the finger pointing to the girl in the picture is mine)

--i for one agree with the gentleman who said steve shiltz was awesome. he really was he played an amazing score but i don't think he drowned out albert in greatness, they complemented eachother.

I dont see what the problem is with the teenage girls though, its not like they drown out the music, its way too loud. it was an amazing show and not because the audience was filled with the "right" kind of people, but because it was a small rather unfilled venue featuring an amazing artist on stage. I only wish i stayed behind longer and tried to get into the vip room. o well...

Word.

What Rachel said.

THE STRANGEST THING is one of the best albums of this decade.

You think they were duking it out, ala Jeff Beck & Jimmy Page?

Why must this shit always be a duel, someone beating another etc?

Those of you folks along such lines, have to layoff the Pitchfork shit, before you start stinking like they do.

Back to the music....

As good as Steve is, one thing to remember is, Albert wrote the songs, and Albert calls the shots at his shows, as to who's taking solos etc. and is secure enough in his musical ego to let the other guys rip.
