Anyone else think that this band lacks originality and personality but covers it up with dashikis, ruffled shirts and songs that just repeat yeahs, ooohhs and ahhhs. I'm down for the retro rock thing like everyone else but besides being in the background of a nissan comercial can a band like this really make an impact on todays music scene? Or do we really need them to? Can someone please tell me why I should give a shit about this band cuz I can't seem to figure it out.

on reason you should like this band:
THEY ROCK!!!!
Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2007 12:35 PM
but besides that
Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2007 12:41 PM
Yeah agreed. boring as hell. style over substance. guitarist just played lame 'blues-rock' riffs and the songs were just no good. somehow i made it through almost the entire gig and just kept waiting for something to happen, which never did. ill pass.

not only do they rock, they're amazing to watch while doing so
pop music is totally about style, synergy and emotion
this band has it....ROCK LIVES!
Posted by theDude | June 18, 2007 12:56 PM
nice people, but really...really i don't understand. they're doing nothing interesting to me at all.
Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2007 1:02 PM
I saw them at SXSW and while they might have "rocked," they also sucked!
Posted by Greg | June 18, 2007 1:04 PM
Haterade,
If you don't like them, then you don't like them. That's fine. The point of music is not for everyone to convince themselves that they should like a band because other people like that band. That's how we end up with total clusterfucks like Williamsburgh and the current indie scene. There's not a whole fuck of a lot going on that's worthy of attention, but it's getting it because people want to be part of "the scene". Fuck "the scene".
If you want to be trendy and like the same things the cute girls in the spandex and hoop earrings say they like, then go camp out at McCarren Park Pool and work on your man-stink before the next Clap Your Hands Say Yeah show.
If you want to have a good time with a band that will rock your socks off, go see Earl Greyhound. It's what they do best.
So you decide, but don't be a dick about it. If you don't think you should give a shit about a band, don't look to other people to convince you otherwise. It probably won't change your opinion anyway. And if it does, you're not very good at forming opinions. So you may as well keep on with that pack mentality bullshit and buy yourself another $2 PBR.

It is impossible for a band to rock AND suck...they are opposite terms....kinda like Greg and Smart
Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2007 1:09 PM
If I may: rocking and sucking are not opposite terms in any sense.
And Frix, way to be a dick about people being dicks.
Posted by daddy | June 18, 2007 1:19 PM
FrixFrixFrix, this ain't a scene, it's a goddam arms race!
Posted by Fall Out Boy | June 18, 2007 1:20 PM
"daddy",
if you were offended by that, you're part of the problem.
Posted by FrixFrixFrix | June 18, 2007 1:31 PM
Frix: i'm not offended. But if you can't see the problem with being a total asshole in attempting to make a point about people being total assholes, then just exactly what are YOU part of?
Posted by daddy | June 18, 2007 1:37 PM
a little thin-skinned, are we?
Posted by FrixFrixFrix | June 18, 2007 1:40 PM
Show me a tighter, more soulful band.
Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2007 1:41 PM
Anyway, I had a great time at the show and thought they were excellent as they are every time I see them. Awesome harmonies, excellent groove, total rock explosion.
Posted by FrixFrixFrix | June 18, 2007 1:46 PM
Let me preface my comment by saying I have no opinion of this band one way or the other.
But here's something I don't understand. Okay, so people love to give their opinions, i.e., "This band rocks!" "No, they suck!" Then it degenerates into "suck your PBRs and listen to Clap Your Hands" and "You're a dick." Then you get the classic "Tell me why I'm supposed to give a shit about this band" comments, as if the person is actually willing to be swayed with words on a blogboard.
What is the point? To what end does this serve and why? Do people A) actually feel better mindlessly insulting people in an anonymous forum and B) actually think it "hurts" the other person?

SLINT SUCKS!
Posted by no clue | June 18, 2007 2:23 PM
Gee, I guess I have "egg" on my face now!
NOT
Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2007 2:23 PM
frixfrixfrix, do you work for this band? Or are you friends with them? Seems like maybe that might be what's happening here.
Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2007 2:42 PM
EARL GREYHOUND!!!!
Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2007 2:50 PM
Black Crowes
Black Crowes
Black Crowes
Posted by Ugh | June 18, 2007 3:06 PM
Is this band named after a breakfast tea? If they really rocked they'd call themselves RED BULLHOUND or something like that if you know what I mean.
Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2007 3:09 PM
no what do you mean?
Posted by RED BULLHOUND | June 18, 2007 3:29 PM
Anonymous 2:42,
I just like the band.
Posted by FrixFrixFrix | June 18, 2007 3:31 PM
I'm sure if this were an article about any band that takes some influence from 70's rock, Ugh would be here wailing "Black Crowes".
Ugh, a bit of advice, look beyond the wardrobe.
Posted by FrixFrixFrix | June 18, 2007 3:39 PM
I thought they were really good, especially Kamera, the Bass player -- that girl can BELT!
You know what also didn't suck -- these pics.
Nice job.
Who is Jefferson?

I met Jeff(erson) while waiting in line Saturday for White Stripes tickets and he showed me these pictures on his camera. Check out the link for his site in the post, good stuff.

for real, one of the best shows i have ever seen at Bowery Ballroom, ever. i cant believe anyone would think it sucked. they had the entire room rocking til 12:30am. anyone hating on this board i must believe wasnt at the show and is just posting to be bitter. This is what music is all about and what a show should be. people were losing their freakin minds!
yes, great pics too!!!!!
Posted by mikey | June 18, 2007 5:20 PM
also, you should give a shit about this band becuase not only do they have memorable songs and massive guitar riffs, but becuase they have a great look, and are black and white, and can sing and play their instrumets insanely well, they are more marketable than most every other band out there, and will most likely be leading the charge in the coming year as far as new rock bands go. They will open doors, and keep them wide open. thats why you should care. I mean jesus, every single record label and agent under the sun was at that show. somebody is going to have a good vision and be able to execute.
Posted by mikey | June 18, 2007 5:26 PM
Well I guess if all the record labels were there then they must be good. I'll take back my comment then and go hang out with my hoop earinged, spandex wearing girlfriend in willy b and listen to clap your hands.
Also, frixfrixfrix...the PBRs at bowery are 3 bucks not 2
Posted by Haterade | June 18, 2007 5:38 PM
just becuase record labels are there and want to sign the band, doesnt mean the band sucks, it just means that they are onto something and the word is out there. i mean even bands like hold steady and cyhsy, as godly as they are, still have record labels putting them out.
dumbass.
Posted by mikey | June 18, 2007 6:03 PM
Actually....
Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2007 7:10 PM
Zeppelin 4 on a boom box with broken speakers will always sound better than these douche bags....
also mikey, "black and white" what the hell man, it's a big deal that black people can play rock music??? get over it, that is insulting to humans.
If every label exec and manager in new york was at that show, then the industry is truly fucked.
I feel dirty for even taking the time to talk about these assholes.
long live good rock.
Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2007 9:44 PM
hahah, wow, that is some real hate there.
i actually love the band just as much as you hate them. but who cares what i think, or you think. we are anonymous.
but they do fucking ROCK!!!
Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2007 10:08 PM
This all just illustrates the need to GET RID OF THE COMMENTS section. If you don't like a band, then move on. Save your hate for something else, like George Bush. Phew.
Posted by Sewster | June 19, 2007 9:35 AM
I didn't know George Bush had a band?
Posted by Haterade | June 19, 2007 10:25 AM
I hate George Bush!!!

They rock. That's all. Don't like 'em? Fine. The L Magazine has a totally rad list of "must-hear bands" for you to enjoy.
Hahahaha!
