Feist / Broken Social Scene pre-sale
Did anyone go to both Feist shows at Town Hall? I heard Kevin Drew wasn't there again the second night, but that unlike the first night, Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear sang backup on 1234.
Feist @ Town Hall, NYC - June 11, 2007 (MORE)

Presale tickets are on sale at 3pm for the BSS/Feist show at McCarren Pool. (username=feist, password=tickets)

i can't believe they're advertising this as a broken social scene show - it has nothing to do with the actual band - and a lot of people are going to be disappointed when they only see Kevin Drew and one or two others playing songs from the new cd....

^Thank G-d you just told me that anon 2:21.I was about to buy tickets. I love BSS but if its only 3 of them then F that, why is it only three of them? Did they break up? I think they did, I dont remember
Posted by Daniil | June 13, 2007 2:25 PM
I am an idiot they didnt break up they just put out that new cd, so why the F is it only three doods
Posted by Daniil | June 13, 2007 2:26 PM
$35 each w/ service fees.

they didn't break up - but they're not playing together as a collective anymore (or recording as such)....thus, the Kevin Drew cd - under the BSS moniker...
Kevin Drew Preps LP for Broken Social Scene Series
Tour shaping up for fall
At last, some rock solid news from the notoriously slippery Broken Social Scene camp!
Central Scene figure Kevin Drew will release a solo album of sorts on September 18 via Arts & Crafts. Technically titled Broken Social Scene Presents Kevin Drew, "Spirit If...", the LP was produced by Drew, along with fellow BSSers Ohad Benchetrit and Charles Spearin (both also of Do Make Say Think). It collects Drew-penned tunes recorded at Benchetrit's place intermittently over the past two years.
The disc will feature a bunch of the soundtrack-scoring Broken Social Scene regulars, and a few outsiders as well, which makes it an awful lot like a BSS disc, but not. The tracklist has not yet been finalized. According to the A&C press release, "The record unfolds like an emotional comic book. It's Drew's song-writing and all his favourite topics are addressed: fucking, fighting, fearing and hope. FFFH."
FFFH is just the beginning, however. Spirit If..., as it turns out, is but the first in a planned series of Broken Social Scene Presents releases. Fellow Scene captain Brendan Canning is presently recording the second volume, which should see release in early 2008. Knowing these guys, that probably translates to late 2011.
What's more, Drew, Canning, Justin Peroff, and some new Scene initiates will embark on a "Broken Social Scene Presents" tour this fall to showcase new material from this series. No concrete dates yet, but Stars-struck Scene-ster Amy Millan does have some of her own gigs lined up, as does Apostle of Hustle.

Kevin Drew needs to exploit the name brand of BSS all he can....seriously, how many people you know care if a "Kevin Drew" solo show happened.... total fucking ego filled snooze fest
Posted by nowtime | June 13, 2007 2:42 PM
Erm surely they're not advertising this as a BSS show? It's a Feist show along with some of BSS performing the new stuff in support. That seems pretty clear in the other story. And the pre-sale is from the Feist website so you'd surely realise it's a Feist show? No?
Posted by Anonymous | June 13, 2007 3:03 PM
the exact billing is:
Feist with special guest Broken Social Scene performing Kevin Drew's 'Spirit If...'
Posted by Anonymous | June 13, 2007 3:08 PM
the ad in the village voice today says
Feist
with special guests Broken Social Scene performing "Spirit If"
can it be any more misleading?
Posted by Anonymous | June 13, 2007 3:11 PM
Are they really not performing/recording together anymore? I was at the last show on their most recent tour in Ann Arbor, MI and they said they were taking a long break to focus on their other projects...not talk of never performing again.
Kind of odd that they wouldnt have their last show in Canada i think.
Posted by Anonymous | June 13, 2007 3:27 PM
What is so misleading?
Feist is the headliner
BSS is the opener. BSS means one thing: Kevin Drew + Brendan Canning + Whoever the fuck they want to bring. In this case, they are performing songs that Kevin Drew wrote.

I feel like this is the same argument of any another band like The New Pornographers or Animal Collective for example...Band members come in and out, but they don't bill themselves sans Neko or Panda Bear.
Yet again, people have too much time to complain about a show they aren't evening going to...

when broken social scene first started it was only kevin and brendan.. but they still called themselves bss. same name with 2 people as with 15 people. misleading to those who would expect to hear songs from you forgot it.. and s/t, but if youre a big enough fan to look into going to show, i think you would figure out the difference(s).

Anon @ 3:27 is completely right.

Feist show last night was excellent, though I was a bit disappointed that Kevin Drew didn't show up. Mostly because I'm a big fan of people with two first names.
Has anyone heard the acoustic Broken Social Scene performance on KCRW? I think it really shows how amazing the songcraft was on the last album, before it got kind of buried by the production.
Here's the link:

that KCRW performance is pretty amazing. I remember listing live, first I was confused how they could possibly play there songs live and sound anything like the album, but now I think it actually sounds better then the album.

if someone advertised KEVIN DREW SHOW, not only would i be there with bells on but front row and 8 hours early and with gifts. haha. that's how much i love him and his ego snoozefest or whatever someone called it before. Kevin is the main event.

this BSS presents thing is stupid. the beauty of BSS is that the lineup is always different, so why not just call this kevin drew release BSS straight up, cause im sure it wont sound too far off from the other stuff, and will involve other BSSers.
Posted by Anonymous | June 13, 2007 6:22 PM
the "sky choir" sang backup on 1234 with ed droste. grizzly bear was sooo good. and feist was amazingly amazing.

Sold out :(
Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 4:47 PM
you fucking american tards, BSS is never the same set up but Kevin is always part of it, calculate three other members and Feist and you got yourself a BSS show if you want to take it. That's it, nothing more nothing less. What do you corporate rock idiots want ? K-Os on the side ? The only people who say BSS in full fledge force are mostly living north of the US. Bozos.

The reason this isn't called a BSS record is because Kevin doesn't want to force what he wants to do on other members of BSS. He thought the last record wasn't collabrative enough, and he wanted to get doing his own stuff out of of his system, before returning to work with BSS.

Also, I would go see Kevin Drew billed solo.

Feist at Town Hall on Tuesday was awesome. Perfect set list, and truly amazing backup band. She is the real deal. I like BSS a lot, but in 10-years I guarantee Feist will be the one in the history books (so to speak).
Grizzly Bear (whose album i love) was unfortunately having an off night (to give them the benefit of the doubt)and were plagued by rhythm issues and at least 2 near train-wrecks.

as promised, the second town hall show is now up at wavesandwires.com:
