WENT TO SEE PAUL MCCARTNEY! Great fucking show, didn't have a wrist band before either, and only waited about an hour to get one.

Not too stoked about his new solo material, but when you play "Back in the USSR", "Blackbird", "Let It Be", "The Long and Winding Road", "Lady Madonna", and "Hey Jude" you certainly can't complain!!!

HOLLAAAA

I went to see FF, but I really wish I could have seen Macca instead. Not crazy about the new songs, they all are synth-driven, but there was tons of energy. They barely played an hour though.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 12:58 AM

I was the first post on the Macca-Franz shows but i posted in the Macca section so here is a reprint. I could not agree less with the first poster. Macca was a good show..not great. Have seen him before and was much better.
Here is the post

I know the McCartney fanatics who think his every fart is magical are going to bash after this but I just came back from seeing both McCartney and Franz Ferdinand. I am so sorry but hands down the winner was Franz. A much better show in every way possible.Hate to tell you guys but McCartney is 64 years old. Yes i agree he was a magical songwriter WITH THE BEATLES. His work WITH THE BEATLES will transcend time. His solo work has produced a few gems but cmon now. Guess what, the Beatles were not with him tonite. Yes the show had a lot of energy although the crowd had a lot of weirdos in there(i am guessing that was the Q104 winners). But he is 64 and is has not really put out a gem in years. The new songs were dull and lifeless. The Beatles songs were great of course but I have seen him before in much larger settings and I feel like he was much better commanding a bigger stage. I left a lil early and got to Franz right when they were starting. Whoa what a difference. The energy of the crowd was much higher. The band was exciting and on point. Even the new songs which nobody really knew were great. Lots of dancing, lots of fun. I am glad i got to see both but if you missed McCartney for Franz you got the better of the deal.

haha some guy posted this in the other Franz section:
"Anyone thing we would have gotten more songs if those girls didn't climb up on stage?"

Actually i kinda wished(and i bet the band did also) that the girls who climbed up on the stage were cuter

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 1:10 AM

And perhaps of age?

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 1:16 AM

was that Ghostface that guested on that one song?

Posted by phyllis | June 14, 2007 1:21 AM

nice shirts, i heard they share their wardobe with Siegfried & Roy

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 1:25 AM

did alex and eleanor break up beacuse i dont think they player "eleanor"but i might've missed it because i was flirting with the snarky bartender.

Posted by austin from boston | June 14, 2007 1:25 AM

I've never seen a Beatle in person, but I imagine watching Macca play songs like "blackbird," "hey jude," etc. would be pretty amazing. Granted, it's not the same thing as watching something new and cutting edge. Instead it's about appreciating someone's lifetime achievement. Even if he's my third favorite Beatle I'll still grant that no one else can claim to have had MORE influence on popular music than McCartney. I believe even Dylan called McCartney the best songwriter to come out of the 60's.

To compare a FF show and a PM show just seems like apples and oranges. Franz, I assume, unveiled some new and probably great songs; Paul played some new songs that were so-so, and dipped into his back-catalog of some of the greatest pop songs ever written.

I like FF, but if I were to choose I'd go see Macca!

"did alex and eleanor break up beacuse i dont think they player "eleanor"but i might've missed it because i was flirting with the snarky bartender. "

She was in the balcony watching the show, so probably not.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 1:32 AM

Hey guys, I of course would've chosen anything Macca played over FF any other day of the week. OK maybe if I learn later he sung "Silly Love Songs" I may tear my hair out. Otherwise, I'll lull myself to sleep on "Matinee."

Posted by tricia | June 14, 2007 2:04 AM

He'd better not wear that shirt in Tennessee.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 2:10 AM

Yeah i was standing next to eleanor so they definately did not break up. But cmon guys, comparing the 2 shows is not apples and oranges as much as you think. Maybe we should dig up the grave of John Lennon, prop it up on stage and play back IMAGINE on the speakers and you can all clap and say how amazing it was. Or better yet, when Macca is 90 years old and he plays the Highline ballroom in his wheelchair and croaks out Yesterday you can all fawn and say how amazing it is. I dont think anyone has not agreed he is part of maybe the best rock band ever and one of the greatest songwriting teams ever. No one has said that Beatles songs wont live on forever. But i didnt compare one of the greatest artists ever with an excellent current band. I compared the actual shows and sorry Franz beat out a 64 year old man on the downswing of his career. If anyone sits here and tells me his new cd is great i would suggest electro shock therapy. But as i have been thinking about it, i guess at the time i thought seeing Ray Charles at a small club at the end of his life was unreal but now I understand it was for just seeing a legend and not the actual show.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 2:21 AM

I wish McCartney had played "Roll Over Beethoven."

why must there be a "winner?"

in your mind, how does two distinct performers (and the younger influenced by the elder) become a steel cage match for keyboard wrestlers like you?

why has this - something so joyful as live music - been bastardized into a forum about what new and old songs were played, and arbitrarily judged as good and bad or relevant (and, ironically, the majority of armchair and professional critics don't even play an instrument or read music) devolved into a paradigm of what is and who is good or otherwise?

how many of you never lived up to your parents' expectations, that you displace your runaway american dream on the artistic shoulders of men and women you don't even know on a personal level?

and, somewhat finally, how can anyone compare a two-album band of no-names to perhaps the most profound, influential, and talented musician in all of popular music? whether or not he can still write a Band on the Run or Let it Be is irrelevant: his record stands.

Ya, whats with ransacking the stage also, I left pissed.

Posted by Jp | June 14, 2007 7:45 AM

The show definitely ended early because of the stupid girls - or at least that's what one of the bowery roadie/door guys said when they got up there.

thanks dumb bitches - go get lost at a korn concert

Posted by Stupidgirls | June 14, 2007 7:56 AM

Great show which only got better once the guy next to me who was yelling "Glasgow" constantly moved to a different spot.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought the girls getting on stage prevented the second encore. Thanks girls.

Posted by MP77 | June 14, 2007 8:33 AM

Yeah girls, stick to talking through the new songs and the cell phone pic taking so the bouncer has to walk through/in front of me during every song.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 8:46 AM

my friend noticed the guitarist nod to the girls to come onstage. alex seemed pissed tho... getting upstaged by a bunch of fatties can't be fun.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 9:03 AM

The last time i saw them they ended with Outsiders, so that was probably their intended closing song, but those whores running on stage did piss me off. Also, was i the only who noticed Alex started playing the start of All My Friends on the keyboard right before they went into outsiders?

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 9:10 AM

The show really took up towards the end into the encore, but those stupid girls who climbed up stage definitely ruined it and ended the concert early. What the hell! I was really annoyed. Ugh!

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 9:21 AM

The other guitarist invited the first fat girl on stage. I guess he felt bad when her friend who was given the bottle of Scotch by Alex passed it around and got kicked out by the tall security guard who was constantly moving about the crowd.

She stood around on stage for several moments looking like a deer in headlights until her equally unattractive girlfriends jumped onstage and they did the humpty dance to close out the night.

Amen. Those chubby fan-girls undoubtedly ended the show early. I was bummed that they didn't even get around to "Do You Want To." One of them took the set list. I hope they realized the grave error they made when they read how many songs we COULD have heard had they not beached themselves up on stage.

Thanks, fat girls.

Posted by Matt | June 14, 2007 9:40 AM

Oh, and yes, I thought that Alex looked pissed about the girls, too.

Posted by Matt | June 14, 2007 9:42 AM

They thought it was Girl Talk.

Posted by jerry | June 14, 2007 9:43 AM

Thanks for ruining the second encore for the rest of us, fat chicks.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 9:53 AM

The Franz guys are too goddamn nice, that's the problem. Took pity on a few "fat chicks" and allowed the lamest stage invasion ever.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 10:06 AM

The Interpol show last week at the Bowery was 10 times better.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 10:10 AM

"Perhaps the most"?

Um, no. One of the most, yes, with John Lennon, on a long list of 50 other amazing people, dick.

Lennon had the better voice. I like McCartney, but he always sang like a pompous douche bag.

And when you boil it down, there are 28 really good Beatles songs, the rest are okay. Now, 28 really good songs is a feat for anyone to be proud of, people barely write one decent, lest really good. So, being a writing team, lets give Paul MCartney theoretical 14 really good songs from the Beatles. Now, I can easily make a list of people with 14 really good songs whose work and sound are singular. Just saying. A man who hasn't been relevant since 1971 you put on this goddamn pedestal.

Marc Bolan>Paul McCartney

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 10:29 AM

the show definitely ddn't end early because of the dancing girls. "Outsiders" is their show-ender. They did exactly the same set list as Friday night's show in London.

Posted by backscrubber | June 14, 2007 10:32 AM

I was one of the fat chicks on stage. Please don't make fun of me. It's glandular.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 10:35 AM

Fine. Maybe they didn't end the show early.

But they're still fat.

And as Anonymous 10:06 pointed out, it was the LAMEST stage invasion EVER!

(Anon 10:35-- hilarious!)

Posted by Matt | June 14, 2007 10:40 AM

"why must there be a "winner?"

----cause that is life buddy, winners and losers. And the fact that for the last 2 days the worth of both these shows has been hotly contested on here and other places and i was one of the fortunate who saw both.

"and, somewhat finally, how can anyone compare a two-album band of no-names to perhaps the most profound, influential, and talented musician in all of popular music? whether or not he can still write a Band on the Run or Let it Be is irrelevant: his record stands."

-----Your argument actually sounded level until this last paragraph where you showed your bent idiotic leanings. Again you did not read or understand at all the post oh McCartney dicksucker. It compared 2 shows on the same night which is completely fair. I am sure even your lord and savoir Macca would not want to rest on his standing record which i imagine is why he has been still recording all these many years later.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 10:47 AM

Hey the comments are great and in tune with how i felt too, thye ended the concert sure, but I am sure the setlists do not contain all songs that they could have played. I was stage right, and definately saw the chaose that in effect cut the show short, leaving Alex to look pissed as he got off stage. The unfortunate end of the gig shows what the seniors in high school have been doing since the last album... eating.

Posted by Jp | June 14, 2007 10:48 AM

yeah eleanor was definitely there on the right side of the balcony. she was like a statue though, i don't think i saw her move at all, not even a head nod!

Posted by mike | June 14, 2007 10:53 AM

Wow. There are some real assholes reading this thing. Don't knock on fans who were actually TRYING to have a good time. "Tons of energy"? Really? Everyone I asked thought thought the crowd sucked, especially for such a spirited band like Franz.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 10:53 AM

Can someone post pics of the fatty stage invasion?

Posted by anon | June 14, 2007 10:56 AM

This blog is a good way to find out about upcoming shows. I don't know why I can't stop reading the comments though. They seem to reach new lows every day.

BV- I recommend a login system for the comments. A pain in the ass for everyone, certainly, but these juvenile flame wars are stinking up your blog. Maybe the discourse could be elevated a little by eliminating anonymous posting.

Posted by Hoodie | June 14, 2007 10:57 AM

does anyone have a link to a picture of eleanor? i wanna see.

you haters hate those girls because they're more suburban/less urban/hipster than you and have higher than 2% body fat. they also probably had way more fun than you at the show. yeah, alex seemed pissed when he left the stage, but the first girl at least was invited up there. it was an awesome show.. get over yourselves and enjoy it.

Posted by kellie | June 14, 2007 11:03 AM

"----cause that is life buddy, winners and losers."

My condolences on the side you ended up on.

Such a shame we were a day off, else we could have ended up with this steel cage match also involving Lily Allen. I would have paid to follow the comments on Lily v Macca.

Actually, sure that isn't Lily up on stage there?

A.) three of us were "of age" I didn't know anyone there except for 2 of us who spoke to Alex outside earlier and he mentioned wanting to have a "dance party" on stage sometime so I highly doubt he was pissed.

B.) I can speak for two of us and confirm that we are not fat you judgemental assholes.

C.) We had an amazing time as opposed to people complaining we ended the show early, we did not - Outsiders was going to be the last song, get over it. I feel great knowing I had had a better time than you complainers who stood still with your arms crossed on your chest for the entire set.

Eleanor danced with a glowstick during "Outsiders." I hope there are glowsticks at the Furnaces' gig at Studio B.

If you feel the need for a stage invasion, do it right..like this

http://youtube.com/watch?v=hNeD5uUzWJo

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 11:23 AM

If Alex wanted to have a "dance party," maybe he should have spoken to the roadies and/or his staff. That woman with the long dark hair was trying to prevent you guys from coming up on stage, yet more of you started climbing up, only to join the others & hop around like obnoxious schoolgirls. Another bearded roadie looked particularly annoyed, as well as the previously mentioned Alex.

The reason we stood with our "arms crossed on our chests" was b/c it looked like you didn't belong up there. We were obeying the rules. Plus you guys looked way too self-centered & heedless. And fat.

Posted by Matt | June 14, 2007 11:29 AM

The crowd sucked no one was into the music maybe that's why Alex was annoyed. Those girls had a good time, good for them.

Yea, there are probably enough mean comments for the girls already. But next time please save the energy to cheer the band on for a second encore rather than invading the stage.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 11:53 AM

I'm embarassed enough, but like I said, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity and they're one of my fave bands. Oh, and I'm not in any of the pics.....thus not one of the "fat" chicks, but whatever it's all good. I still had a great time.

i wouldn't of minded the girls if the show was all-ages, like the myspace show, cause lets face it, franz's core fanbase has becomes 16-18 year girls.

but it wasnt all ages. it was franz ferdinand trying to win back some of the their lost street cred, playing to a room of people who go out to shows once a week, i.e. not the mtv/post hot topic crowd that typifies their audience.... as a result the girls just seemed out of place and kind of pathetic.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 12:07 PM

"Tv on the Radio> Paul McCartney"

"QOTSA>Paul McCartney"

...is there something wrong with you?

Posted by cherry | June 14, 2007 12:10 PM

Where to begin. First of all, I'm registering my name because I'm not embarrassed at all about what happened last night.

I was one of the "chubby underage girls" on stage. If you know anything about Franz Ferdinand you should know after the second album was released that they ALWAYS end their shows with "outsiders".

There's no way they were going to have more songs because they most definitely wanted to head over to the knitting factory (like the rest of the people at bowery) to see the rakes, A GOOD SHOW.

Alex looked annoyed cause he's an asshole.

You could call me a fangirl if you'd like, but that was my 18th time seeing them and I thought it was a horrible show.

If they were going to play more songs they would've. It's not like the stage was ruined by the invasion. Roadies and crew are capable of setting up the stage again AS THEY ALWAYS DO FOR ENCORES. So if they had intentions of playing a "second encore" which I know for a fact they didn't, then they would've done it.

So I may be chubby, but that does not mean I ruined the show.

You, my snobbish friend, ruined the show.

That is my two cents.

Posted by Sarah | June 14, 2007 12:10 PM

Yeah, Sarah. You restored your credibility, linking your MySpace page & everything. You're super awesome.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 12:20 PM

yah, I did that on purpose so you could see that unlike you, I like having a good time at shows and that Franz Ferdinand clearly don't hate me as they felt it necessary to give me their drumhead. Fuck off

Posted by sarah | June 14, 2007 12:24 PM

Why would you see a band 18 times if you thought the lead singer was an asshole?

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 12:25 PM

seeing a band 18 times = fangirl.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 12:29 PM

you know i've actually met and talked to alex at a couple of shows , and he does seem like a genuienly nice guy. i dont know where you get off calling him an asshole, especially given your sad superfan status. is it because he refuses to play along to to your teenybopper fantasies?

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 12:29 PM

so you climbed up onstage and jumped around with your friends acting all goofy happy.. at a "horrible show"? mm k.

i think the issue is that the girls ARE young and acted young. with the exception of the first girl, they weren't invited onstage.. and call me a fuddy-duddy, but i don't quite think hopping up there uninvited is proper concert etiquette.

Posted by k | June 14, 2007 12:30 PM

touche, but back in the day when i saw them at places like maxwell's, i, like other less informed individuals thought he was nice. Around ten shows in I saw the light. But, there are three other members, who are not assholes and it was only fair to give them 8 more tries. But now, my closet friend on bv, I am done. So not worry, not more chubby stage invasions from me.

Posted by sarah | June 14, 2007 12:30 PM

also - adrian grenier was there

Posted by k | June 14, 2007 12:33 PM

Everyone knows a band need NINE more tries before you write them off as assholes. You're not being fair to Alex, my dear Sarah.

Posted by Matt | June 14, 2007 12:33 PM

Alex is an asshole? So the story about him coming out before the show to speak to the fans for a bit - and more than likely, the same fans that invaded the stage - is completely untrue?

Stay off the stage and don't steal yourselves anymore drumsticks - from Paul or from KFC.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 12:36 PM

"Around ten shows in I saw the light. "

Do explain what he did to cause your revelation, Sarah. I'm genuinely curious.

It's extremely difficult to find anyone with a bad thing to say about him.... you'd think if there were a good reason to bash him, people would jump at the chance. Seems like a nice guy to me.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 12:37 PM

sarah...i was just glancing your myspace site and was wondering how it's seven possible to be 19yrs old and see spoon 20 times, futureheads 11 times, the strokes 14 times....

do you just follow bands for a living??

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 12:37 PM

"don't steal yourselves anymore drumsticks - from Paul or from KFC."

- that has to win the award for comment of the day.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 12:40 PM

Well she's seen dancing onstage with The Cloud Room in one of her MySpace photos. Someone better tie this girl down next time she goes to a show.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 12:42 PM

In my day, we invited chicks BACKstage, not ONstage, and only hot strumpets, at that.

Posted by Beethoven | June 14, 2007 12:42 PM

First off, those girls weren't 'fat'. Most legitimately fat Americans make these girls look like bulemics. Next time you're visiting your parents in Whitesville USA, swing by a Wal Mart or a mall.

Second, the fact that anyone would bring something like that up is really sad and shameful. Implying that obesity (which none of these girls really exhibit) is a character flaw is terrible. It can't be "These girls jumped on stage" it has to be "These FAT girls jumped on stage"? Crazy .

Getting onstage and acting like a retard, yeah, that was stupid. But bringing physical appearance into the picture is the product of the weak mind of a vain, shallow, and fucked up person.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 12:44 PM

i pretty much do follow bands for a living, as it is my living.

Uhmm no joke, roflcoptor @ "don't steal yourselves anymore drumsticks - from Paul or from KFC" hahaha like seriously, i LOLed.

All my friends love him and can't understand why I hate him either but I think he's an asshole and I have my reasons

Posted by sarah | June 14, 2007 12:46 PM

Sarah, may I just say that this sentence from your myspace page brightened my day immensely:

"I tried making a page for myself on wikipedia but the cruel wikipedian monitors deleted it on the account of it being a "vanity" page and that I have no historical significance... "

Yes, people are being pretty mean, but jesus, your myspace isn't helping. Lay off the concerts. Read a book or something. Take a walk.

Fat Bottomed Girls you make the Bowery Ballroom go round!

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 12:51 PM

Anon @ 12:44 is fat.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 12:55 PM

my mom said she'd take me to see franz ferdinand at maxwell's for my 15th birthday, even though it's on a school night...she'll even wait in the car until the show is over!! i just hope my order from oldglory.com gets here in time...i need my new FF t-shirt for the show, so everybody knows i'm really a fan...

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 12:55 PM

"All my friends love him and can't understand why I hate him either but I think he's an asshole and I have my reasons"

What are your reasons?

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 12:56 PM

I try so hard to make comment of the day. But i am so unsuccessful like the extra heavy girls who couldn't haul themselves onstage.

Posted by Jp | June 14, 2007 12:59 PM

i can't help that I'm young. Sorry, should I have waited to get into good music til i was 21 and could properly hate having fun at shows?

Posted by sarah | June 14, 2007 1:04 PM

Congrats Sarah. You and your hefty friends have caused the most controversy on this board since Beth Ditto posed nude for NME.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 1:06 PM

wow i am sort of happy i didn't go to this show... i'm not sure if the people posting on this site are an accurate representation of the entire audience, but it makes it seem like the audience was filled with very mean and sad people.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 1:16 PM

My friends and I chatted with Alex for a couple of blocks on the way to Bowery. He is so nice - whether it's because he genuinely is or because of the fact that we are fans. I've met him before as well and he's always been that way.

As for the ending, when bands do that multiple drummer thing, I think that signifies a pretty obvious ending to a gig.

Posted by Meredith | June 14, 2007 1:17 PM

"Congrats Sarah. You and your hefty friends have caused the most controversy on this board since Beth Ditto posed nude for NME."

Unlikely. The Beatles vs. Franz debate probably takes the cake.

That was not meant to be a fat joke.

"But bringing physical appearance into the picture is the product of the weak mind of a vain, shallow, and fucked up person."

seriously. what the hell is wrong with you people?

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 1:18 PM

Why doesn't anyone post their name anymore? You all got blogs and I know it. All these Anon's are making my head spin.

Posted by jerry | June 14, 2007 1:23 PM

the girls were fat and fug...like fergie fug...

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 1:27 PM

Anon 1:16 - I'd say the show was very good and the crowd was also good. Everyone around me was very positive, there was a fair amount of dancing, and everyone was enjoying themselves. Heck even if I disagree with the girls getting on stage (which I expressed earlier) I think there was a genuine excitement in them doing so which is admirable on some level.

The bitterness or whatnot is purely because many of us (myself included) think the show would have continued if they didn't get on stage. I guess we'll never know if that's true or not but it certainly felt that way. Plus I've been to shows where people getting on stage caused the show to end prematurely. All in all I don't think the venom being spewed today is indicative of how the crowd was last night.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 1:29 PM

Can people say more about the show?

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 1:29 PM

hiss...(venom)

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 1:36 PM

Hey listen I am fan of a good stage invasion.... Iggy Pop, the Libertines... But i do have to admit it seemed forced and awkard. Yet fair enough, I was happy to see them attempt it. Guys, give the new girls a little bit of break....

But new girls... You do need to learn a few things. anyone of us who back in the day would go to punk shows with a mosh pit and slam danced learned very quickly there is a codes of ethics in the pit. Number one: be mindful of others around you i.e. always help up a fallen commarade. The same thing kinda is true of being a member of the audience. (mob vs multitude theory).

Because it got really bad at the Rakes show. Some of the same girls were there and they just were soo loud (in the pay attention to me because i am a better fan kinda way) and knocking the shit out of people (not in the let's mosh and move to the music way). Everyone around them was so annoyed because the girls were impinging on all the people around them who were dancing and having a good time.

Worse yet, one of the girls grabbed the lead singers thigh and tried to caress him when he leaned over to sing in the crowd. He pushed her away and I think he muttered "no, no yucky..."

I say have a good time but do not do it at the stake of others. Respect those who want to dance and respect those who do not. A true music fan wants everyone around them to have as much fun and enjoy the show as much they do...

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 1:49 PM

About the show. The other blogs have stuff.

But for me.

They sounded great, much like all the bootlegs that are out there, I wished Bob's bass was turned up more, he's got some great beats. The onstage band antics is tiresome, but they are who they are. About the ending of the gig, i don't care much about the "dance party" but would have just liked Alex to say good night to us. I need that good night.

I am glad this will be the last time I see this band live.

P.S. I am kinda fat too.

Posted by Jp | June 14, 2007 1:56 PM

girls at shows are just annoying...they need to go away.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 1:56 PM

i was one of those girls dancing at the rakes show. i don't know what you guys were doing, but it definitely wasn't dancing. if we got extra crazy for a few of the songs, whatever. had this been a show in the band's home--london--then how we danced wouldn't even compare to how the brits do it. i would've agreed about respecting other fans who want to have a good time if we WEREN'T talking about a rakes gig. if you can't handle the front, then just step a little further back to where it isn't chaotic. simple as that.

Posted by p | June 14, 2007 2:01 PM

i do, however, agree about that girl. poor alan.

Posted by p | June 14, 2007 2:03 PM

The new songs were rad...I can't wait for the new album. They did a good mix of old and new—not too many new in a row. I was dancing, not just nodding.

Not only adrian grenier, but the porno director from Entourage was there last night too.

Posted by Tanya | June 14, 2007 2:21 PM

i had the opportunity to be paid to see both the franz and the rakes show last night, but i chose not to see either, and instead i stayed home and made my own music.

Posted by a | June 14, 2007 2:21 PM

what up jerry?

lay off those chicks. if they model types, there wouldn't be a discussion.

That's nice, a. Surely you have something better to do than post here. Like make your music and then listen to it in the privacy of your boudoir.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 2:34 PM

haha. i know the ONE drunk chick you're talking about because she basically molesting one of my friends while we waited for the rakes. she wasn't with my group of friends who were dancing with enjoyment WITHOUT the influence of alcohol. so fuck off.

Posted by p | June 14, 2007 2:38 PM

"Hey listen I am fan of a good stage invasion.... Iggy Pop, the Libertines... "

HAHAHAHA! I'm pretty sure some of these same chicks did the same thing when Dirty Pretty Things played Bowery. We all know how pretty Carl Barat is.

"Because it got really bad at the Rakes show. Some of the same girls were there and they just were soo loud (in the pay attention to me because i am a better fan kinda way) and knocking the shit out of people (not in the let's mosh and move to the music way)."

That was made even worse by adding the tackiness of waving Franz Ferdinand's drum sticks around. Yes, Alan knows Franz just played. He was there. And fangirling one band at another band's show is just bad form.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 2:49 PM

"...she basically molesting one of my friends while we waited for the rakes."

Today's groupies suck. Back in the day, these girls used to wait around to blow the band after the gig. Now all they want is to pose with the band for their MySpace pictures.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 2:51 PM

Hey, I'm a girl who wants to blow the band. That Eleanor looks vicious, though.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 3:00 PM

"yeah eleanor was definitely there on the right side of the balcony. she was like a statue though, i don't think i saw her move at all, not even a head nod!"

Maybe she thought they weren't very good? I cannot believe she actually likes their music. The Furnaces are miles ahead of Franz musically.

Hilarious posts today on this thread. Yes there was one girl of the bunch that was not fat and that was Sarah as you can see from her myspace page. Good for you Sarah defending yourself from these meanies. Good for you as well in getting into music so passionately at a young age.
That being said, please learn how to properly get on stage and dance. Not jumping around like all fangirly and shit. Actually it was not so much you as your "friends" with you. I found it somewhat cute although like someone above posted I sort of wish more of the girls were cuter.
The real truth is that most of you calling these girls names and such would not hesitate to fuck one of these fat girls in a second if they gave you a chance. It is probably the only girls you could get
I myself have no problem saying id love to "do" Sarah
Shit, id hit her like a drunk driver.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 3:23 PM

same fan girls from dirty pretty things at bowery
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vah2BbjfJoo
good for them! to be young again

Posted by d | June 14, 2007 3:32 PM

How can you tell that is the same girls?? Was the video on Sarah's myspace page. Because those girls in the video were not fat and were cute.
Also, I love what passes for moshing and stage jumping and diving these days. I would love a time machine to take these girls back to say ohhh the pit at any cb's hardcore matinee in the 80's or abc no rio. Let them see what it was really like and watch them run for cover.

Not me. I'm a gay dude.

But for the record, the "fat" business was immature & not entirely accurate. I should have further accentuated the "incredibly obnoxious & embarrassingly lame" parts.

Posted by Matt | June 14, 2007 3:54 PM

I love it how you people act like you know what a stage invasion is supposed to be like when band members have consistently complained to me that NY audiences suck because they stand around staring and are too cool to dance.

You're just jealous because they had more fun than you ever do at a show.

Posted by Shani | June 14, 2007 4:07 PM

Shani, you're fat. M-kay?

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 4:10 PM

you people should be ashamed of yourselves for making fun of those girls. seriously. take a look in the mirror. YOU are fucking disgusting.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 4:15 PM

Whether I am or not, I'd rather be fat than be a hipster. Go do some coke and look fashionably bored. It's what you're good at.

Amen Shani!

It didn't look like they were having that much fun. they seemed kind of uncomfortable up there.

You guys, I'm the fat Asian chick in the photo and I really think I'm going to cry into my Big Mac now.

I didn't know there was some kind of proper stage invading guideline. I thought people went to gigs to have fun, not look surly and be bitter because other people actually want to live a little. If you want to watch hot girls prancing around, go masturbate to your extensive porn collection.

Also, yeah, the girls in the DPT vid are some of the same girls at the Franz stage.
