Afghan WhigsI am usually not a fan of compilations or career retrospectives, but the Afghan Whigs': Unbreakable: A Retrospective 1990-2006 is my most anticipated release of the week. Hands down, the Afghan Whigs are the most dynamic live bad I have ever seen, and I am first in line to pick up any Greg Dulli-related release.

Other releases I can strongly recommend this week include Architecture in Helsinki's single Heart It Races (single), Carina Round's Slow Motion Addict, Get Him Eat Him's Arms Down, Hallelujah the Hills' Collective Psychosis Begone, Long Blondes' Someone To Drive You Home, The Ladybug Transistor's Can't Wait Another Day, Moviola's Dead Knowledge, Pelican's City of Echoes, and Pissed Jeans' Hope for the Men.

Plenty of reissues are out this week, including the Pretenders' Get Close and Learning to Crawl (both remastered), David Bowie's The Best Of 1980-1987 and Young Americans (both remastered), and the Beach Boys' Live at Knebworth.

What new releases can you recommend this week?

I didn't even know Shellac had a new album coming out. They killed (as always) at Studio B last year.

The one I'm queued up for is The Aggrolites' new CD, REGGAE HIT L.A. They're Tim Armstrong's session artists on his new solo album A POET'S LIFE and are mighty.

To be precise, that Police album is a new, 30th anniversary, two-disc collection of remastered greatest hits. We can all resume ignoring it now.

Dynamic? sounds like a description for cheerleading camp. Dulli was toast in 1999.

Ween has a new five-song EP, "Friends", out on Friday. It'll only be available through for awhile, apparently. These five songs will *not* be on their new full-length due this fall.

Hey, you forgot about Joan As Policewoman (Joan Wasser, Rainy Orteca, Ben Perowsky). Their album Real Life is on iTunes now. The album has been out for a while ex-US but was just released in the US.
