On Thursday, June 21, New York joins 340 other cities around the world to host a day of free, outdoor music-making. From Metropolitan Opera singers to high school rock bands, church choirs to underground MCs, Tuvan throat singers to Salsa bands, punk rockers to string quartets, there's something for everyone. Post good shows in the comments: The listings are HERE. And send in your pictures if you go to anything. I'll try to make an interesting post afterwards. (my email is on the top right of this site)

If you're looking for a list of worst band names ever, just look at the schedule of performers for this.

These guys seem to be extremely disorganized. Not only did they forget to get sound permits for the Tompkins Square Park show (I think they're going ahead w/o amps), they double-booked a couple of the time slots so at least a couple of the bands dropped out entirely. Hope the rest of it goes OK though.

what a terrible line-up. Who the fukk are these bands?

As a performer who is going to play today, I can confirm that the organizers for this event have no idea what they are doing. People have been dropping out for exactly this reason. At this point, I'm sticking with it just to see what happens. I'll be very surprised if my band actually plays a note this afternoon.

The name of the first band listed is either a big mistake or there really is a band called A Place to Bury the Dead.

just because you never heard of the bands does not make it a terrible lineup. You never heard of your favorite bands until you heard of them, duh?

Wormburner is playing Otheroom sidewalk at 7 and they are great. I can only assume other unknown great bands are playing around the city as well.

Any idea who the "very special guests" are at Pianos tonight??

I read in yesterday's NY Sun article:
http://www.nysun.com/article/56812?page_no=1

...that "An "avalanche of musicians" came directly to Mr. Friedman after the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers sent out an e-mail message to its 25,000 members."

Blame it on ASCAP.

Did anyone else catch Cheeseburger's set during the torrential downpour? Unfuckingbelievable.

Moto:Rosa played two sets on Bedford and N.9th. Not a lot of people have heard of the band but after the MMNY sets yesterday that changed. The band had about 70 people blocking Bedford for their 2:00pm set and more for their later set. The 8pm show was definitely more rocking since the storm clouds were brewing. The band got through four songs fine and then the sprinkling started, cutting the set short, they went into their loudest song, "Faith Healer" instead of quitting. The rain started beating down with lightning in the distance and winds whipping, hurricane-style. Pretty punk rock :). There was quite a crowd on the street and sidewalk since there weren't cars going down the street. It looked like Moto:Rosa was one of the lucky bands who brokedown their gear and tossed all the stuff back into the house they were playing in front of during the deluge; definitely didn't look fun...But they sounded awesome.
