So,
1980s Meat Puppets = Awesome

Well contrary to what this guy above says these shows will not sell out fast if sell out at all
Unfortunately the new record is not good and no derrick is really a missing factor here
But ill tell you..meat puppets i think it was 1989 at cbgb for the new music seminar was one of the best fucking shows i have ever seen. Wall to wall people fighting to get in and they just raged.

and the backwater swirls there are somethings that'll never change.
i saw them in 96 at the manhattan center for cmj...they were godawful...they played with deluxe folk implosion (also awful)...hagfish and menswear were great though.
menswear shouldve been huge.

I actually liked the backwater record. It's no Meat Puppets II, but it's a good pop album.

Maxwells 82 on first album
Maxwells 83 on 2nd
Irving Plaza maybe 83/84 prior to 3rd album with The Lyres
Rock Lounge with Flag around then too
that's all I can remember, but why spoil those memories w/new substandard stuff?
Better time spent - got to Bostrom's Meat Puppets site and download hours worth of first album outtakes, and second album vocal - less roughs.

Its the 'moe.down'. Jambands, hippies, veggie burritos, you know the whole deal.

"that sounds like 1/2 a step above county fairs. which i assume are right around the corner. "
though hilarious, you are wrong. Moedown's lineup also includes Ryan Adams, The Roots and Madeski, Martin & Wood.

I caught the Pup's in Boulder a few months ago and it was an excellent show.
I've seen 'em in the late 80s and early 90s and honestly, it wasn't much different in Boulder. The show was a bit rushed, even for MP standards, but they sounded very tight. They've still got "it," in my opinion.
No Bostrom, but what're you gonna do?
Comparing them to early 80s MP is futile. That was a long time ago and they've altered themselves a little bit over the years. Not much, though. And so what, they're back making new tunes.
