Got shutout on the NP/Midlake show. Whew, that was fast. Anyone have an extra?

Posted by paul bronstein | June 20, 2007 12:19 PM

Padme???? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2007 12:24 PM

Keep trying. I just got them at 12:50.

Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2007 12:24 PM

They're all gone.

Posted by chris | June 20, 2007 12:25 PM

Got em!

The original directions were misleading, the link was from the main R2R page, NOT the specific link for the gig info.

Posted by baggers | June 20, 2007 12:26 PM

there was actually a link on both pages, but the one rivertoriver told us to go to took a longer time to load.

pretty entertaining seeing their site get pegged at 11:57am, but I gotta admit that, even with site lag, this was better executed than ticketing for the show last year.

Posted by lauren | June 20, 2007 12:39 PM

extras?

Posted by jepp | June 20, 2007 12:43 PM

got them! man, that was a test of patience. i almost just went to lunch while waiting for the site to load.

Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2007 12:44 PM

*much* better than last year.

Posted by jerry yeti | June 20, 2007 12:56 PM

i got mine @ 12:30. so excited. i've saw neko @ mccarren pool last yr but i've never the new pornographers. awww free tix

Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2007 12:59 PM

Wow, this is getting tiring. Sat on the computer from 11:50-12:20 and couldn't even get into the site. I gave up because I had several other things I had to do, and when I checked at 1pm, they were gone. Not happy.

Posted by Steve | June 20, 2007 1:03 PM

I overslept, because I am a bum, and now it's almost 1:30pm, and I am ticketless :(

Posted by NOO | June 20, 2007 1:07 PM

I got a pair. anyone know how exactly we pick these up? I never got an email.

Posted by badger | June 20, 2007 1:08 PM

I got em. I checked out the site at 11:50 and kept reloading and right around 11:56 it started to stall completely... With persistance and a lax work environment (lucky me) I got them at 12:25!

Badger: On the confirmation screen when you get the tix they tell you where and when to pick them up. Btw, you're supposed to print that screen. lucky for you they also e-mail that info.

I too saw Neko Case at the mccarran show last summer (tons of hipster lesbians!) but have never seen NP. I'm very excited. Belle and sebastian last year was awwwwwwwesome in spite of the rain. This is totally going to be a july 4th tradition for me every year. I will step over my grandma to get tix!!

Posted by Eric | June 20, 2007 1:33 PM

Hey Eric: I will stomp on your grandma to get tickets.

Posted by Ticketless in TriBeCa | June 20, 2007 1:49 PM

I got tickets. Do we have to attend on of those 4 events in order to get our New Pornographers tickets? This is confusing as fuck.

Posted by Ben | June 20, 2007 4:08 PM

I finally got the email. (The screen was "Congrats" but then blank whiuch scared the shit out of me.) Anyway, I guess they have a desk at each of those lead up shows where you can exchange for tickets.

Posted by badger | June 20, 2007 4:34 PM

Got 'em.

Ben: You don't have to attend all those events, just show up during the times listed on whichever date suits your schedule and get your tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2007 4:34 PM

What's so confusing? The confirmation clearly says to pick up your tickets at one of the four locations. It then gives the locations plus dates and times. It's actually quite simple. And so what if you have to go a little out of your way for them, they're frickin' free.

Posted by The NB | June 20, 2007 4:36 PM

Because I already spent 30 minutes getting "tickets" for a free event...and now I have to go out of way to some event to get the "tickets" AGAIN. It's like an obstacle course. It's ridiculous.

None of the dates suit my schedule. I cannot be at any of those places at any of those times. Why can't we just show up at the New Porno's concert with the email tickets we ALREADY HAVE?

Posted by Ben | June 20, 2007 4:58 PM

dude... it's free and it's an awesome show. you can't find one date out of the 4 to stop by for 30 seconds to pick up your free tickets? sounds like a pretty stupid complaint.

grow a pair, why don't you?

Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2007 5:06 PM

Wow, a $2 subway ride to get tickets to a free show that's going to be an amazing experience. What an inconvenience.

Spoiled, spoiled, spoiled little children

Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2007 5:11 PM

It might not be 30 seconds. It's possible they oversold + long lines quite early = no tickets, hipsters.

Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2007 5:23 PM

here's why they make you go pick up the tickets: they don't want douchebags to either (1) reserve tickets online (it's easy) and then not show up to the concert, thus preventing people who actually intend to go from entering the concert; (2) sell their tickets; that's why you need to pick up your tickets w/ an ID.

the logic is pretty simple, huh, once you bother to invest a thought and a half in it...

Posted by om | June 20, 2007 5:24 PM

Don't like it. Don't go.

Posted by wayne | June 20, 2007 5:41 PM

Why even have the tickets at all in the first place? Why can't people just show up for the show like every other free concert in NYC?

Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2007 5:45 PM

"Why even have the tickets at all in the first place? Why can't people just show up for the show like every other free concert in NYC?"

Crowd crontrol, stupid

Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2007 5:49 PM

No, it's not crowd control. It's a transperent effort to get people to attend their other free events that won't attract big crowds.

There is a free Spoon show a week after this one that does not require tickets. Last I checked, Spoon was just as big, if not bigger, than the New Porno's.

If the area reaches maximum capacity, then stop letting people in - simple as that. That's what happens at any other free concert anywhere else in NYC.

Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2007 6:04 PM

my guess would be that the tickets are probably an insurance issue. whoever is insuring the concert wants to make sure that there's not 10,000 people squeezing into that space, stomping all over each other.

it's not perfect, but hey... this is going to be an amazing show and it's FREE. New Pornographers (w/ Neko Case) and Midlake! that's a pretty awesome bill.

Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2007 6:16 PM

It's not about crowd control, it's about creating a list of subscribers, with correct email and phone number. These subscriber lists can then be used for marketing. Remember, these shows are paid for by advertisers.

What prevents someone from picking up the tickets and then selling them?

Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2007 6:20 PM

is amnyone reselling?
i would give 20 bucks for 1
missed out wanna go

Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2007 6:25 PM

Ticketless people, you can just show up - you won't get into the fenced-in area, but, you know, sound carries. A simple, effective strategy for all NY summer outdoor shows.
