People have been lined up there since around 4 AM. I really hope they all get in!

people are lined up? are they selling tickets as well as giving them away?

Wonder what this will go for on ebay!?

Wow! You get to see a real rock legend 30 years after he was relevant! Save yourself the hours you'll never get back and go see a decent band (any band) with some fresh material.

Will trade one Franz Bowery ticket for one Mcartney...any takers?
:)

Thanks! At age 42 it's nice to still be referred to as a kid. Yeah, I still remember the good old days back when McCartney didn't suck.

Suddenly Franz doesnt seem like a big deal? Are you kidding me. I was stuck listening to Q104.3 the other day when they decided the 12 o'clock beatles block was a good occasion to play selections off Paul's new album. It was shit, across the board. Screw Paul McCartney. Franz is gonna be great.

Dick Hertz....hahaha. That was pretty awesome.

But I heard Beethoven might be making a guest appearance with McCartney...

"people are lined up? are they selling tickets as well as giving them away?"
No. Last time I heard, the venue will fit 500 people because they've got some tables and chairs set up. They're giving away 10 bracelets online, about 400 were given away already over the radio and they're giving away 50 at the door, tomorrow at 12:30 PM. There are probably close to 50 people there already (and I'm not one of them. Boo!).
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2007 1:29 PM
I agree that Paul might be a bit of a tool these days, he may not be "relevant", but he's still a Beatle, and Highline Ballroom is about the size of Bowery Ballroom.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2007 1:29 PM
"Suddenly Franz doesnt seem like a big deal? Are you kidding me."
How much you wanna bet that there's nobody lined up outside Bowery Ballroom right now?

Lennon was the important and most talented one, Paul was lucky. His solo material is shit. That's all the musical knowledge I need Beatle-wise. Franz will also be much more entertaining. Dumb fuck.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2007 1:35 PM
Erm, maybe if they gave away free tickets to Franz then there would be people lined up outside Bowery? Quite a lot of them, perhaps?

Damn, I'd go see Paul McCartney! Why all the hatred on people that would line up to see him? I don't get it sometimes...
By the way, that first song off his new album -- "Dance Tonight" -- is so simple, and so awesome. Can't say any of the other tracks really jumped out at me.
Kinda bummed someone beat me to it on the Beethoven joke!
Posted by Drugs Delaney | June 12, 2007 1:40 PM
Anon 1:35 - your point might be more forcefully made without the "Dumb fuck" at the end. Also, "Lennon was the important and most talented one, Paul was lucky." - not so much.

"Lennon was the important and most talented one, Paul was lucky. His solo material is shit. That's all the musical knowledge I need Beatle-wise. Franz will also be much more entertaining. Dumb fuck".
this is clueless, typical revisionist history. A lot of Lennon's Solo work is shit too. Paul was far from 'lucky'. He was one half of the greatest songwriting team rock n Roll has ever or will ever know. Ringo certainly was lucky, and an argument could be made for George, although that would be a stretch, but Paul? He was far from being just the guy that helped out John.
You clear don't know anythig at all about anything, therefore you are the dumb fuck.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2007 1:41 PM
Anybody that would wait overnight for a free ticket for Franz would be an idiot.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2007 1:43 PM
Damn. You know, it is possible to like more than one genre of music. I've got tickets for Franz and The Rakes tomorrow, but I'd gladly give them both up for a chance to see McCartney.
Actually, it's not even more than one genre. It's all Britpop, except McCartney kind of helped create it while the rest of these guys sort of copy what he did with added computers and tighter pants.
The fact is most of the bands around today couldn't make music like the Beatles did if they tried. Hell, a lot of them did try, for Sgt. Pepper's 40th anniversary, then bailed when they realized they couldn't use an autotune.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2007 1:43 PM
I think Anon 1:35's point could not be made at all, with or without the dumb fuck at the end, because simply put, he's completely wrong and clueless.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2007 1:45 PM
Just to be clear - is someone here being forced to go see Paul @ Highline? No? Ah, ok.

my point proven right here everyone. first of all, lennon really only wrote the lyrics to the songs, mccartney and harrison composed and arranged everything you fuckin idiot. also, if paul was "lucky" he must have fucked a leprichan cause he was responsible for helter skelter, hey jude, eleanor rigby, and blackbird, just to name a few. without the beatles and mccartney there would be no franz ferdinand.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2007 1:50 PM

Ummm...where did you get that idea? After around 65/66, they pretty much wrote their own songs seperately. Both music and lyrics. Though they did help each other out occasionally. But yeah - Strawberry Fields Forever...music and lyrics by John. Hey Jude....music and lyrics by Paul. You get the idea.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2007 2:02 PM
so then go see Ringo. He plays quirte a bit.

If Paul had any balls he'd ask Pete Best to play drums. You know Pete - the guy that Paul had sacked from the Beatles over some petty jealousy. The guy that suffered the "what could have been" with immense grace and harbored no ill feelings.
Gosh, I sure hope Paul plays Say Say Say or Ebony and Ivory. Or Silly Love Songs! Yep, classics all of them. Timeless really.

A friend in the line.
"Where did they give away 400 over the radio?"
I don't know, but if I had to guess, I'd say Q104.3.
This what the door guy told my friend and my friend told me. I was going to go down after work to try to get a bracelet before we found out about the radio thing, but now that we know it's only 50 and people have been waiting for hours, I'm not even going to bother.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2007 2:08 PM
Yes, Paul was lucky. Lucky he wrote Hey Jude, Helter Skelter, Penny Lane, Eleanor Rigby, Yesterday, Michelle, The Long and Winding Road, etc etc etc.
If only today's songwriters could be half as lucky.

Paul does not play these songs live.
Pick any artist you admire with a catalogue of hundreds of songs and a forty year musical legacy and youwill be able to pick out more than three horrible songs. What does that say about the man's career? Absolutely nothing. For the three songs you listed I could name a hundred that are fantastic.
Keep thinking that McCartney is represnted by Ebony and Ivory and you are a loser.

Posted by official poophead | June 12, 2007 2:15 PM
I'd much rather watch Paul perform "Yesterday", "Penny Lane" and "Back In The USSR" strewn about whatever else he wants to play than have Franz Ferdinand play selections from two albums that sounded exactly the same.
Posted by M | June 12, 2007 2:17 PM
This is hilarious. If John & George came back from the dead and performed a full Beatles show some of you fools would find something to critique.

The Jesus/Beethoven gig is off - Jesus couldn't get a visa (he has a record for possession, who knew?)
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2007 2:27 PM
I really don't know what to say about this ugly stream of meaningless dribble. McCartney wrote some of the most beautiful songs in modern pop history. While music today may be entertaining, much of it cannot compare on a musical and lyrical level. Lennon/McCartney, Will Oldham, Tom Waits - these are the songwriters who will continue to influence artists for decades to come. Not Franz Ferdinand, Arcade Fire or any other (fun) pop fluff.
Brainless 'ironic' hipsters strike again.

I think the worst part of this is that even Franz Ferdinand would probably be revolted by the comparison.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2007 2:41 PM
(and by "the comparison", I meant "the idea that they could be considered more talented than Paul McCartney, sorry)

Look, I love The Beatles and McCartney but let us be honest about a few things. This show is to promote the new cd which SUCKS!!!...It is garbage. I mean really not a good piece of work especially coming off of the last cd which was actually really good(thanks NIgel Godrich). The show while free and in a small place is not going to be a full show and he will be playing mostly the new cd.
I am not hating on McCartneym I am just saying I am happy with my Franz tickets.

although this album is to promote his new album im sure he will do beatles material as well...

glad you're happy, but what are you... 16 yrs old (seriously)?
if franz is one of your primary musical reference points, that's sadder than sad... that's pathetic...
and this bullshit about "relevance?"
there's "of the moment" and then there's the historical (as in, a part of history, past, present, and future) and the former (which is franz) means fly by night and the latter (which is mccartney) means here to stay.
i have nothing against franz, but some require a reality check...

Obviously you are a complete idiot to write you wrote. You either did not read what i wrote or you did not understand it. No, i am not 16. If you had carefully read what i wrote you would see that the reason i am happy with my Franz tickets over not trying to go see Mccartney is that his show is going to basically be a performance of his new cd with a couple of beatles tunes in there. It is going to be a short show and not his usual full one. I and appparently many others do not care for his new cd at all and therefore I have no interest in seeing it performed. And i clearly started my comments saying I LOVE the beatles and Mccartney.

"to call Franz Ferdinand a band of the moment is pretty ridiculous. They will be around for a little bit more than a moment"
Yeah, very little. Historically, their impact will be minimal. Hell, even "You Can Have It So Much Better"s sales can't compare to their first album, and that was just a year later. In five years, no one will care at all.

i called mercury lounge earlier today, and asked when franz would be on stage, and whether there'd be an opener, and the dude said 9pm, no opener. so i said, so not like interpol last week, and he said no.
so if FF is really at 9pm, that will put a crimp in the macca/ff doubleheader, assuming you even have both...

You're the fuckstick - MOST tours (behind a new record) are about supporting and playing songs off a new album, mixed-in with earlier material: it's called alternating your past with your present, and your present with your past. But when you have arguably the greatest song catalogue in the history of popular music, there's no shame in playing YESTERDAY or I'LL GET YOU (whether or not doing so is in conjunction with one or none of the new songs.)
And, 90 minutes for a club show - by a superstar artist - is by no means shabby time-wise. In fact, that's longer that most sets by younger bands playing club and theatre gigs (whether The Strokes, Arcade Fire, or The National).
I and appparently many others do not care for his new cd at all and therefore I have no interest in seeing it performed. And i clearly started my comments saying I LOVE the beatles and Mccartney.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2007 3:19 PM
I could care less about what you profess to "love," and furthermore, just because you dislike the CD, isn't also synonymous with Macca's upcoming show being subpar (whether because of new material that you dislike will be played, or because it's not his usual 2 1/2 hours arena tour time frame.)
That all being said, to call Franz Ferdinand a band of the moment is pretty ridiculous. They will be around for a little bit more than a moment

Uh, Qbertplaya? I just called Mercury and they said there'll be a DJ opener and Franz will go on around 10. Just like Interpol.
That leaves just enough time to see McCartney before at the Highline, but it'll be a tight squeeze for The Pigeon Detectives at 11:15 at Knitting Factory.

***manhattan carnivore REPOSTING, since i don't post anonymously, and for the sake of record***
Anon 3:06pm
Obviously you are a complete idiot to write you wrote. You either did not read what i wrote or you did not understand it. No, i am not 16. If you had carefully read what i wrote you would see that the reason i am happy with my Franz tickets over not trying to go see Mccartney is that his show is going to basically be a performance of his new cd with a couple of beatles tunes in there. It is going to be a short show and not his usual full one. Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2007 3:19 PM
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2007 3:19 PM
By the time I yawn at the conclusion of this reply, that little bit's already been over and done with.

Oh im sorry mr know it all. Who says it is going to be a 90 min show??? Because that is what it was in London, you fucking moron. Would you like me to point out numerous times in many artists tours when shows didnt always last the same times or length
And yes McCartney has a great back catalog with the Beatles. Unfortunately he is also missing 3 other members of that band that added quite a bit to those songs, no?
And oh thank you for explaining to me what a tour behind a new album is. As i said before i do not care for the new cd so why would i run to a show that is mostly going to be his new cd.
OH wait that is right. You do not care what i think. Yet we all care what you think being that everyone loves to hear a moron spout nonsense. So please continue and next time you yawn feel free to tell everyone what you think are bands that will last more than a little bit. I and am sure everyone else cannot wait to hear.

I don't think anyone here is dissing Will Oldham. He is a very talented songwriter.
But I agree that putting him in the same class as the Beatles and Tom Waits as far as being an influentail musician is pretty ridiculous.

Paul McCartney : The Beatles
Joe Perry : Aerosmith
Roger Waters : Pink Floyd
Robert Plant : Led Zeppelin
who here knows how ratios work? (sarcasm)
it means, like all the others listed, that paul is good in his respective "legendary" band, but standing alone he isn't worth two shits.

Paul McCartney 's solo carreer cannot be compared in any logically or rational way to the solo carreers of Joe Perry, Roger Waters or Robert Plant. Paul Mccartney has had numerous number one worldwide hits and albums. Joe Perry has had none, Roger waters has had none, and Robert Plant only had a big hit when he was in another band "The Honeydrippers" with a cover of a song from the 1950's.
silly, silly comparison. If you don't like Mccartney's solo output fine, but to discount it by comparing it to these others is ridiculous. Just because you don't dig it, doesn't mean that he hasn't had a substantial solo carreer.

4:09- I can't shake the feeling that you've never paid much attention to McCartney's solo work beyond whatever drivel appeared on MTV. There is an entire decade of excellent solo work that pre-dates that.
And to no-one in particular- I sincerely feel bad for Franz for being championed by such douchebags, not to mention being drawn into this laughably unfair comparison.
They're a fun, harmless band. They're good at what they do. I doubt that they're under any illusion that they're doing anything earth-shattering.

I agree with what you're saying about comparing McCartney's solo career with that of the other artists listed. But what I took the original post to mean was that the author was illustrating McCartney and the other artists' level of importance in their former bands. If you look at it that way, the list is quite accurate.
Also, Robert Plant had six #1's in his solo career:
"Other Arms" from 'The Principle of Moments' in 1983
"Sea of Love" from 'The Honeydrippers: Vol. One' in 1984
"Little by Little" from 'Shaken n Stirred' in 1985
"Heaven Knows" from 'Now and Zen' in 1988
"Tall Cool One" from 'Now and Zen' in 1988
"Hurting Kind (I've Got My Eyes on You)" from 'Manic Nirvana' in 1990
Nothing compared to McCartney's solo output, but not bad for a guy who completely abandoned the music that made him famous for nearly ten years.

solo paul mccartney is like a cheeseburger with no beef patty. and also no cheese. and no buns. just a piece of lettuce. he sang on superbowl, his solo stuff is shitty, but it is hard to be genuine and creative in your art when you are one of the richest musicians in the world. he is alive but his music is dead, it died a long time ago. if he called me and said 'i would like to perform in your living room only for you', i wouldnt say no, but i would also kind of feel uneasy, and ask him if i can have one of my friends around because being the big star he is, he might justify in his mind that he deserves a lay just because he gave a lousy concert in my living room. i mean superbowl in front of an american flag, come on, john lennon must have turned five hundred eighty seven times in his grave. fuck mccartney, with all my heart, actually now that i think about it, if he comes to sing in my living room, i am going to kick his ass.
as for franz ferdinand. the second album was 0.3 out of 10. putting material out there like they are still so sentimental after such fame and hardcore sex. coney island rollercoaster my ass, that album sucked like there is no next century.

My two cents:
I'm 39 and a big fan of The Beatles, but I have almost no interest in catching a performance by McCartney nowadays. I like very few of the songs he's recorded since Wings and as for Beatles songs, I'd rather listen to a Beatles tribute band who have dedicated themselves to recreating The Beatles' recordings live. (Not the ones who try to look like The Beatles.)
Nothing against Franz Ferdinand, but I'm not into them.
I'll be at the free Booker T. & The MG's show tomorrow night.

I got there between 4 and 5am. The line was solid until it hit 50 people then the venue decided to print out tickets to give to the people that had been there guaranteeing a bracelet tomorrow at 12:30. Posted by Anonymous | June 13, 2007 12:50 AM
They haven't given out bracelets yet; they gave out tickets this afternoon/evening.
They were only giving out one ticket per person and they checked your ID and took down your name, ID number and phone number. They also recorded the number of the ticket you were given. The tickets will be redeemed for bracelets Wednesday at 12:30 PM. The guy distributing the tickets said they were only giving them out Tuesday and you can't get a bracelet without one. However, they changed their procedure several times today in order to keep fans off the street and the police happy, so really no one knows how this will turn out.

I normally listen to METAL but I fucking *love* the Beatles. Did you know that the song "Helter Skelter" inspired the Manson family murders? Fucking INTENSE. In any case I have 2 tickets to Manson and Slayer co-headlining at the PNC Bank Arts Center in NJ on August 5th. I was gonna take my daughter's friend since she likes the bands and is really grown up for her age but to hell with that I wanna see Paul Fucking McCartney! I know that it may be a tough sell because not a lot of Beatles fans listen to REAL metal but you gotta trust me, these are the 2 most INSANE live bands you will ever see! If you have never seen Slayer it's a MUST and everyone knows Manson kicks fucking ass live. If you are cool enough to hook me up I will not only buy you drinks at the Highline show but we can split a bottle of Jack in my car before Slayer/Manson as well. You can't fucking beat that. FEEL THE T-PAIN
Jive/ZLG R&B Star Tops Macca After Initial Canadian Sales Mix-Up
June 12, 2007
A "Drank" beats out a cuppa coffee.
Jive/ZLG R&B star T-Pain's Epiphany proves slightly better than Hear Music/Concord legend Paul McCartney's Memory, topping the ex-Beatle for #1 on this week's HITS' Top 50, with a total of 166k to Macca's 163k.
A previous result, showing Paul edging the R&B singer/songwriter, was due to the mistaken inclusion of Canadian sales for the McCartney album.
Jive/ZLG’s R&B star T-Pain nabs the top spot on this week’s HITS chart despite a massive marketing and promotion campaign waged by Starbucks for Paul McCartney’s Memory Almost Full album.
T-Pain and Macca are two of a total of six newcomers to the Top 10, including Def Jam/IDJ’s Rihanna, WB Nashville’s country stars Big & Rich (#6) and Interscope’s Daddy Yankee (#8) and Marilyn Manson (#9).
Holdovers include last week’s chart-topper, Jive/ZLG’s R. Kelly (#4), A&M/Octone’s Maroon 5 (#5), WB’s Linkin Park (#7) and Universal Republic’s surging Amy Winehouse (#10), riding the momentum of her Rolling Stone and Spin cover stories, her top-selling album at iTunes and #1 at TRL for “Rehab.”
A&M/UMe’s Police greatest hits collection lands just outside the Top 10 at #11, fueled by the band’s current sold-out tour.
Among the other chart newcomers are Suretone/ Interscope’s Chris Cornell (#17), Columbia’s Bruce Springsteen Live in Dublin (#20), the Roadrunner debut of Dream Theater (#23), Bungalo’s Carl Thomas (#24), Capitol’s Poison (#36), Side One Dummy’s Warped Tour 2007 (#390) and Asylum’s Lil Wyte (#49).
Winehouse is the week’s biggest gainer at +28%, followed by LaFace/ZLG’s revitalized Pink (#42, +18%), Big Machine’s Taylor Swift (#19, +10%) and Walt Disney’s Hannah Montana soundtrack (#38, +9%).
Next week, look for charting releases from Showdog Nashville/UMGD’s Toby Keith, Def Jam rapper Fabolous, Atlantic’s Gerald & Eddie Levert, as well as Interscope’s Enrique Iglesias and Queens of the Stone Age.

"how many ppl were there vs got ticket placeholders for wristbands"
I don't know, sorry. I'm the same "my friend is in line" person from the top of the thread. Yesterday afternoon, I got a call saying they were giving out hard tickets because they needed to get people off the street and if I came NOW I could probably get one, so I did. When I got there, there were very few people around, the whole thing took less than five minutes and there were maybe five people behind me in line when I left.
I suspect the drama over having sixty years worth of fans and venue roughly the size of Paul's kitchen will happen today, when we go back for the bracelets. From what I saw yesterday, everyone managed to go home happy.

Posted by Anonymous | June 13, 2007 1:35 PM
Anon 1:35:
It was probably around 4 or 5 PM.
I just got back from the Highline. When I left, there were unticketed people lined up around the corner of 16th and 9th hoping to get bracelets. I don't know what will happen to them. The door guy said they had 100 bracelets to give away and I was number 73. They gave every person who had ID, a ticket and was on yesterday's list a bracelet and a number, which will be our places in line, in order to keep people from lining up in the street all day.
Also, the bracelets are thick plastic and they put them on pretty tight, making them nearly impossible to get off, so PLEASE don't bother with craigslist. You'll end up totally screwed.

Mccartney is not gonna go on at 830 on the dot, highline is becoming notorious for that. Franz will be going on at 930. bowery is usually good at that. Franz wont be playing more than an hour or so.

Hey people,
Just to let you know how big this show IS NOT and to quiet down some of the idiot McCartneyiacs spouting on here. My friend is on the list for tonite as am i and he sold his plus one on Craigslist. The highest offer he got and what he sold it for was 300 dollars. Now that is a lot for a free show but to just put it in perspective he sold his Pearl Jam at Irving Plaza extra for 750 dollars. So that tells you the level of intensity people are having for this show.
McCartney is old, his new record is wack and this show is not that big of a deal so relax.

wrong. This show is an EXTREMELY big deal. There are no physical tickets for tonight;s show, so someonoe paying even $350 is taking a big risk, which would account for it being the highest offer. Just because your friend says he is 'on the list' and has a plus one for sale, is not necessarily the safest of transactions for the buyer, therefore $350 for a VERY risky transaction shows you just how hot this show really is.
To put it in perspective: If this was a regular Ticketed show through ticketmaster and people were selling hard tickets, they would be going for a thousand a pop easy or more.
Besides the fact that Pearl Jam sucks, the Pearl Jam ticket sale was announced way ahead of time and people were lined up forever. Most of the people on the line for that were kids who were out from school and did not have a job to go to, so for an older, responsible person with other things to attend to who was a die hard fan $750 clearly was a good price to pay to not have to sleep in front of Tower Records for two days with a bunch of twenty year old slacker losers. It's not that the Pearl HJam show was worth $750, it was that the buyers time was worth more than that.

If there was more advance notice on this and more people knew about it, and it was advertised, this would be the hottest ticket of the year bar none.
No contest.

This venue holds 1000 people. There were 1500 people on line by noon today. They gave out less than 150 wristbands. YOU tell me how hot this show is.

5:41 - You are wrong, when mccartney does a tour over 700 of the best seats at the garden sell for 250-300. it is more the baby boomers do not check the internet as much and do not know about the show or the demand would be a lot higher
Posted by Anonymous | June 13, 2007 5:58 PM
250-300 face that is
Posted by Anonymous | June 13, 2007 6:01 PM
^^^ False in every way you fool. First of all I said 300 was what he got. Second of all, there were a number of scalpers who were out there yesterday on line. You know how easy it is to remove the bracelet and put it on someone else. You think they check at the door to see if the underside of your arm is not taped up under the bracelet. You apparently have not been to many concerts. If anything the fact that there is no hard tickets and the ticket is not as easy to get would mean the cost would be much greater especially considering Beatles fanatics are crazy when it comes to things like this.
If there were hard tickets there is no wayyyyy this show would be going for a 1000 a ticket. Not even a chance in hell.
Like i said people, McCartneyiacs like this dude above are delusional about anything Beatle related.
Truth is Pearl Jam is a much more relevant and exciting show and that is why the ticket was so much higher.

Stop smoking crack dude, Call highline and ask them how many people they hold. 550 about. They in fact gave out 100 wristbands. There were not 1500 people on line by noon today and i know cause i went there to pick up my bands which i got a voucher for yesterday so i did not have to wait outside last night. Oh and i showed up to get on line yesterday at 5pm and there were not even 100 people on line by that time and the show was announced hours before that. Even people who came after me got a voucher
Oh and fyi McCartney did not sell out the Garden last year. I know this cause an aquaintence bought a ticket at the box office night of the show.

I know the McCartney fanatics who think his every fart is magical are going to bash after this but I just came back from seeing both McCartney and Franz Ferdinand. I am so sorry but hands down the winner was Franz. A much better show in every way possible.Hate to tell you guys but McCartney is 64 years old. Yes i agree he was a magical songwriter WITH THE BEATLES. His work WITH THE BEATLES will transcend time. His solo work has produced a few gems but cmon now. Guess what, the Beatles were not with him tonite. Yes the show had a lot of energy although the crowd had a lot of weirdos in there(i am guessing that was the Q104 winners). But he is 64 and is has not really put out a gem in years. The new songs were dull and lifeless. The Beatles songs were great of course but I have seen him before in much larger settings and I feel like he was much better commanding a bigger stage. I left a lil early and got to Franz right when they were starting. Whoa what a difference. The energy of the crowd was much higher. The band was exciting and on point. Even the new songs which nobody really knew were great. Lots of dancing, lots of fun. I am glad i got to see both but if you missed McCartney for Franz you got the better of the deal.

Hey Anon 12:13AM...
I want to take your post and reverse the names Paul Mccartney and Franz Ferdinand then it would be correct.
I went to both Franz and Mccartney. McCartney owned that room. Franz were fun new stuff is very 90's euro disco. eh.

I'll break the debate with a... tie. I went to both as well (BV crowd did well tonightI see).
I would give the nod to Franz on the excitement/crowd/musical pulse and Macca on the specialness of the night. Kind of a tie, which is a big up to Franz in my book.
That being said, in 10 years, I'm going to tell my friends I saw Macca at the Highline, and I'm going to remember the Macca show. Franz, unlikely - I might not even remember it through the summer. So I guess Macca gets the nod in the end, but maybe I'm just a twat for picking memory over musical pulse.

I posted before about Franz being better than Macca and i disagree of course. In 10 years i have have seen much better shows to tell my kids about than Macca at highline.

The truest measure of stupidity in human beings: using words like "relevant" and "old" when discussing music instead of phrases like "songwriting talent."
Get it straight: there ARE NO recording artists being signed these days - NOR HAVE THERE BEEN FOR AT LEAST 20 YEARS - who have the ability to write and arrange songs. Popularity is awarded, not earned. Congratulations on lowering your expectations.
How about if the pinheads critique only things they understand from now on? What a world we'd have.

Just because you can buy a ticket the night of the show at the Garden doesn't mean that it wan't previously sold out. The Garden (and many other venues) release tickets might of the show for many shows that have long been sold out.
McCartney was one of them. His shows at the Garden had been sold out for quite some time, and then there was a ticket drop at the last minute.

in 10 years time I'll remmber a bunch of chubby girls running on stage during the Franz encore ruining the show for the rest of us..how sad.
Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2007 11:53 AM
I saw no scalpers there yesterday; the bracelets were a thick, dark red plastic and security put them on very tightly, making them near impossible to remove without showing damage.
I personally had a far more enjoyable time at the McCartney show than Franz Ferdinand, but that's just my preference. My enthusiasm for them has been waning for years (I know that sounds weird since they're so "new", but I just realized the last time I'd seen them was fall 2005 and I was unimpressed then, too), but I'm not going to insult people just because they still like the band. Whatever gives you joy is awesome for you.
