Rufus Wainwright in drag @ Gramercy Theatre, NYC June 5, 2007 (CRED)

Rufus Wainwright, prodigy of the prodigious McGarrigle/Wainwright Clan, played the newly reopened Gramercy Theatre, which he claims is a stumbling distance of only two blocks from his own house. Ever the family man, he brought his cousin Lucy along for the ride. In the audience were Maggie Gyllenhaal and designer Betsey Johnson, plus guest vocalist, Justin Bond of Kiki & Herb Fame. [tixgirl]Rufus has three more shows at the Gramercy this week, then a private magazine show somewhere in the city, and then Summerstage and other tour dates.

wow, so nothing at all from his first two albums? I guess if he's doing 4 nights then there's still plenty of time for it, but still, that's his best stuff.

Yeah...the show is divided into two sets, with a 20-minute break. Rufus went on around 9pm, the break being around 10ish, and the entire show ended at 11:30pm.
btw...he does have great legs, I was sitting in the second row and he is still as cute as ever :)

He wore a few fun outfits, but this one, with the suit jacket sans-pants and heels, was just for part of the encore. It was a great show but the audience was a little subdued.

Wait, they put seats on the floor? How was the sound? I saw Birdmonster there before it became The Blenber and the sound was like, Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr - horrid.

From where I was sitting the sound was fine, then again, I was like 10 feet away from the stage. He made a comment how the acoustics where not wonderful. I'm not sure how the sound is in the "stadium" seating part, but I don't think it's too bad.

is that gerry leonard on guitar? he's a fukkingenius

That was Gerry Leonard. I was sitting in the second row/right side in front of him and knew he looked familiar, but couldn't remember from where. When Rufus said his name it hit me - David Bowie band. He was amazing. He was concentrating on guitar kinda impassively until the encore - when he looked like he was having a blast.
