Thanks for the stream, reminds me of Beck a little bit. But true BB spirit through each track.

Euh... Stream where? The stream doesn't seem to show up
Posted by Oorzonde | June 21, 2007 8:57 AM
you have to allow you browser to run the activeX control
Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2007 9:58 AM
It can't be AcitiveX. I have my browser (IE) set up to ask for permission to run ActiveX code and it did not do so.
Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2007 10:19 AM
Appearently Firefox can't render the page, Internet Explorer can without asking for ActiveX over here.
Posted by Oorzonde | June 21, 2007 10:48 AM
I use FireFox and it's working fine for me. Thanks, BV!

It sounds like their instrumental stuff on Check Your Head. Its good, but why not add lyrics to some of these tracks? I havent liked any of their albums since Ill Communication.

thanks for the stream!!

Agreed, JR.

Thanks for the stream, love the album. Much prefer their instrumental stuff at this point in their career.
"Its good, but why not add lyrics to some of these tracks?"
You're asking this, yet say you haven't liked anything since Ill Communication. Perhaps it's because their rapping doesn't carry the same panache or appeal that it once did. I would be happy to never hear them rap again.
Posted by Brian | June 21, 2007 11:31 AM
It's very nice. But I can't help but think that it's deeply derivative (and not just "influenced by.")

They can hold it down with rapping if they do it right. Don't you recall the Beastie Boys punk rock? They are not only rappers, they can belt out some punk singing with ease. . I love the album Aglio E Olio. That album kicks ass in my opinion. Alot of that punk style came out in Check your Head and Ill Communication.

anyone else think the fro is a really bad look for him?

Testing stuff
Posted by Testing Comments | June 21, 2007 11:59 AM
Their instrumental instincts are rote.

Their instrumental instincts are rote. This stuff has no pizazz.

BV, any word on that supposed secret show in brooklyn for july?
Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2007 12:11 PM
i like the beasties better when they didn't give a fuck.
Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2007 12:16 PM
Yeah, I am a huge Beasties fan and have absolutely no interest in this because i like the BBs b/c of their raps, not their instrumental skills.

Uh, yes, I do, actually.

I would have to disagree with that comment highly. This instrumental record is great, but I feel that the boys have grown in their rapping capabilities and need to keep it going. Five bouroughs had the clever wit and flowing rhymes that could compete with Ill Communication undoubtedly in my mind.

no words?!! im more than a little bummed, i enjoy their lyrics a ton.
Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2007 3:41 PM
their show is going to be tits!
Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2007 4:11 PM
UGH
another weak idea.
no lyrics equals doom for a band that has been doomed for a while.
Lame lame lame.
Posted by c dub ya | June 21, 2007 4:26 PM
The most original group on the planet.
I'm going to see them in scotland for the
4th time next august.

I heard that they are going to have another cd with the same songs just with guest vocals, but Im not sure like when it will be available and all.

Posted by duelster | June 21, 2007 5:19 PM
good, but boring as fuck to be honest
Posted by Anonymous | June 22, 2007 12:17 AM
Another terrible waste of time - Beasties are the worst hoax in music - they cldn't hold down an open mic night. If you're not in a fraternity, you don't smash beer cans on your head and you have any rhythm, I don't see what you could possibly dig about these posers.
With the exception of maybe Root Down & Sabotage - 2 decent songs in an much too generous career span - they're a giant shit stain on whatever genre they're placed in.
Enjoy.

I dig the music quite a bit, but it wouldn't have hurt to put in a little lyrical play in a couple of these.
If I want purely instrumental, I can get it elsewhere from more memorable arrangements.

I hope the instrumental album is as good as the instrumental music they played in that documentary "I fuckin shot this". That stuff was funky. This song here sucks.

It's just music. Listen to it. If you don't like it, turn it off. If you want lyrics, pick music with lyrics. If you like Ill Communication, go put it on.
Why are people always "it's not this" "I wish it was that" rather than letting the band do what they are happy with? Perhaps they really don't give one up for your opinion.
No pizzazz... next time they record an album I am sure they should have this mob giving them advice.
Posted by Sausipious Jackson | June 23, 2007 7:27 AM
I think it is great. It is like funky Pink Floyd especially when compared to the Floyd's early albums. While I know this album will not satisfy the Beastie's main fan base, who cares. If I was at all musically talented and could afford to produce music that I am sure was a blast to put together, I'd do it. It not like their fans are going to stop listening to them because they don't really care for the new album. So all you naysayers throw on the stuff you do like, and enjoy.
cheers
Posted by Eugeneaxe | June 23, 2007 9:48 AM
Eugeneaxe, the problem with this album is that it's massively unoriginal. Pick up any "dancefloor jazz" compilation to compare. The music's perfectly lovely, but it is not in any way interesting or new.
Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2007 10:37 AM
Ok but next gig I will enjoy Brass Monkey, Egg Man, So Watcha Want, Heart Attack Man, Intergalactic and Suco de Tangerina..
different genres and styles in one shot..
Sorry just for open minded.

Ah hey now, what's da point in getting all stressed coz people are been critical of the album? Good to get different opinions.
It's funky with some good bass sounds but it's not quite blowing me skirt up!
I was gonna get the album but not so sure now after listening to it. I know theirs a ton of bands out there doing this crazy a'ss funk, so just coz this ones got the Beastie Boys trade mark don't mean nothing without their distinctive vocal rapping.
Can anyone recommend a band playing this sort of funk that would torpedo da Beastie effort out of zie water?

Your grandmas love the Beastie Boys, and the Beastie Boys love your grandmas. They could buy your house and burn it down, but they choose not to.

Well... I haven't found a working stream yet (the aol site does not have this album anymore), but I have listened to the 'Off the Grid' song from their website and enjoyed it.
Yes, this style of music has been around for a while... and perhaps has been done better several times before. But I bet this album will *introduce* more people to this style of music than any album before it. Obviously, many of the BB fans will not be able to get into this genre... but many will. And, judging solely from the first song I've heard, they have done a fine job with it... I'm definitely interested in hearing more.
Like a few have said before me... these guys are making music that makes them happy... and hopefully they can introduce some of their fanbase to a new genre of music to explore.
