Summerstage kicks off - TELEVISIONNNNNNNNNNN
Television - Marquee Moon alt take
It really is summer. Summerstage kicks of the concert season tonight in Central Park (Friday June 15th) with Cassandra Wilson & Olu Dara. Then tomorrow is the show I've really been waiting for: TELEVISION w/ Apples in Stereo & Dragons of Zynth (3-7 pm). AND Sunday - also 3-7 - Tiken Jah Fakoly, Idan Raichel Project, and DJ Kadafi. All three shows are FREE.
Tickets are also on sale for Rufus Wainwright, Beastie Boys, The Levon Helm Band, The Black Crowes and others. There's also still some left for Decemberists/Land of Talk/Grizzly Bear.
Apples in Stereo are also playing Housing Works tonight.

Richard Lloyd was hospitalised with pneumonia and in intensive care until very recently so there's a substantial likelihood that he won't be able to play at this show and that his place will be taken by Tom Verlaine's touring partner Jimmy Ripp - just to warn those of you thinking of going to the show. Should still be great because Ripp is a very capable guitarist but it'll be sad if Lloyd is unable to make his farewell show.

Appreciated, Richie, but is it possible to get a confirmation - as this possibility being factual - from mgmt?
Ripp, as you noted, is fantastic, but somehow, I doubt they'd leave this as an 11th hour dangler: this upcoming gig means the world to Lloyd.

thanks, ANON: serves me right for now searching it out on my own.
This doesn't read as promising at all, IMO.
Let's hope, of course, that Lloyd will be fine (for himself, his own sake first) in general.

i just moved to nyc, whats a good time to show up at summerstage to make sure i get a good seat?

I'm ASSUMING that Television will go on third (around 5:30) -- I know Apples in Stereo are good and I'm sure the other band is good too; but I cannot imagine not saving TELEVISION for last. Unless it's a mob scene, you can probably get there at 4:30 or 5:00; but not sure about a "good seat", but there will presumably be lots of standing.

is lloyd still on for the gig?
Posted by Anonymous | June 16, 2007 11:31 AM
Well, turned out to be Ripp; wasn't bad, but he was no Richard Lloyd. Still, it was a very good show! A couple songs I didn't recognize, but for those of you who couldn't make it to the show the set included:
1880 or So
Venus
Little Johnny Jewel
Glory
Prove It (mellow "cover version")
and of course . . .
Marquee Moon
No "See No Evil", no "Aint That Nothing", no "Call Mr. Lee -- too bad. But nobody ever accused Television of being predictable.
I think they may have also done one of the slow numbers from Adventure
Also, there was a great (long) Middle-Easternish sounding but pretty rocking song right before Marquee Moon; anyone know what that was??
