Tim Fite's record is so so great. I think he's still giving it away for free on his website. I have grown to find hiphop on the whole almost unbearable to listen to. Sure I'm white and un-urban, but the pathetic worship of guns and money and T&A are so so sad. But this record is really damn smart, really damn funny and not at all preachy (which seems to be the only other way to rap besides guns, money, bitches).

Union Hall as a music space is good for mellow artists. As a bar, it's terrible.

dave hill is in this awesome metal/hair band called "children of the unicorn." very funny stuff. they're at the mercury lounge tonight, opening for the group sounds reunion.

Dude, I totally remember that day you said "Union Hall | a new Brooklyn music venue in Park Slope". Today marks just a footnote in history, but someday, blog archealogists and future societies will look back on those words with pride and awe.

So I'm guessing the Michael Showalter show is 21+?

speaking of union hall, the epo-555 show there on monday is well worth checking out. they are from copenhagen, denmark (on crunchy frog records/rykodisc in the U.S.), and rarely play over here. pretty much nobody has mentioned their shows in the area, which is a bummer. well, i guess *i* just mentioned it.

hitting newsstands today, check out the newest issue of beyond race magazine featuring an intimate look at your favorite lead singer, matthew caws of nada surf. one of our writers got up close and personal with him during the past several months. read about how they met, his personal life that he only shares with 'good friends,' what he's like in bed and what he LIKES in bed. plus, the diary of sexually perverse texts they shared.

beyond race can be found at newsstand across the country as well as record shops, music venue and mom and pop stores throughout the lower east side and williamsburg.

This is an official Beyond Race Magazine statement in regards to a comment made about an article of ours that supposedly featured Matthew Caws of Nada Surf. No such article has ever appeared in any issue of Beyond Race Magazine, and we're not entirely sure why someone claims it has been. Perhaps the writer of the comment is confusing us with another publication. You can check out our magazine online, but, once again, you won't find an article on Nada Surf.
