I think it might smell like a skunk at the park tomorrow.

music to get smelly to.

Manu Chao is hippy music now? That's news to me. They did play Bonaroo, but so did Wilco, The Flaming Lips and Sonic Youth.
I understand not liking over-indulgent hippy music like Phish and the Grateful Dead, but Manu Chao? They are a fun band! Then again, I speak several languages including Spanish, so maybe I get the meaning while English only speaking folk might not get it.

Hahah, I definitely wouldn't categorize Manu Chao as "Hippie" music...anyone that's seen em live knows that his shows get pretty hardcore at times. It's really a tough genre to categorize. If a band's music is conducive to smoking weed, does that make it hippie music?
Either way...can't wait for the show tomorrow night!!

Maybe you should smoke some skunk and you'd relax a little bit, douchebag. And for the record, Phish and the Grateful Dead utilize imprvisation, which is rooted in jazz. It can be overindulgent occasianally, but you need to fall on your face in order to attain the brilliant moments of off-the-cuff improv that both those bands achieved countless times. Hate to break it to you, but their memory will be shining bright when the reverb obsessed turds you like are failed musicians working in fast food. And one more thing, the hippie movement died in the early 70's. Manu Chao a baby at the time. Get your facts straight.

i don't see where anybody called it hippy music, seems like everybody just likes to get all riled up for no reason. agro.

there are going to be a ton of hippies at the manu chao show. there were a ton of them at the sold out boston show.
manu has been amending his shoes to make them more palatable to american audiences. there's a lot more jamming and mostly snippets of his normal songs are played rather than full versions.

He can amend them all he wants- I will always find Manu Chao's shoes unpalatable.

Manu Chao started very early, before 8pm. You can't expect that Park Slope residents have thousands of latinos mulling around after dark, can you?
Posted by Anonymous | June 27, 2007 10:04 AM
Ha. thanks. how late did he go?
Posted by badger | June 27, 2007 10:18 AM
Is there a support band?
And what time does the park start filling up?
Manu coming on before 8pm - does that mean 8pm-ish or more like 7/7:30pm?
Gracias... :)

The show started just before 8 and went untill just before 10. And don't leave after the first encore - because he does about 4.

There is a long line to get a drink wrist badge and to buy beer, but it thins out. Lots of space on the lawn for people to dance and yes I think I smelled a skunk. (saw a hippy too). great show, fun HOT night. You guys tonight may be getting a bit wet.

Last nights show was great! Lot of energy. The arrangements of the songs started to get kind of predictable. On many occasions the band would change the feel/beat to a fast paced double time underneath the same melody/progression halfway through. They also ended many songs with a series of triplets. It was hard to not notice the formula after awhile. But it consistently got the crowd going. So if it aint broke, you know wash rinse and repeat or something like that. Also disappointed that there were no horns. But again, great show!
