Ugh! Teenybopper fangirls! Gross!

What? No one asked them their favorite color?

Nor about the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow...

Posted by Anonymous | June 19, 2007 10:42 AM

Yikes - hopefully none of those girls outside the venue were clutching a copy of Double Fantasy...

Look, they're just some young kids excited to see (and meet) their favorite band. Stop being so cynical, Poop Pants.

Posted by Gorbert | June 19, 2007 11:25 AM

They're not THAT young, though.

The Rakes guy has some strange moves. Alex could stand to expand his repertoire as well; based on another video, he and Nick seem to have taken to a unison running-man thing that they should seriously reconsider.

I love how he's so excited about his new shirt and belt. Like a little kid. A really, really gay little kid. I don't get him.

Was that Eleanor with him and his bike?

Posted by Anonymous | June 19, 2007 11:57 AM

that looked like the band manager with alex on the bike

alan rakes is the greatest indie dancer that has ever lived.

Couple of quick observations from the video:

1)This girl who made this is never going to be a filmmaker or even an interviewer.

2)The first chub to jump on the stage that night is of course in the beginning of the video. I wonder if it is her or the girl filming who has the atrociously annoying laugh all thoughout

3)The girl in the blue dress who asks Alex if they willplay Love or Destroy that night is so cute but would look so much better with a dick in her mouth

4)The guy amongst the group talking to Alex is a loser and a pillow biter

5)I feel bad for Alex. You can see he would really like to be anywhere else than out there talking to these dimwits but he has to cause he cant alienate his fan base.

6)Where is my fave music slut Sarah in all of this.

Anon 11:57, you must be really into gay little kids, admit it, you twat.
What was Alex supposed to talk about? Meaning of life?

Posted by Lili | June 19, 2007 3:30 PM

Lili -- whoa, overreaction!!

Truly didn't intend to insult Alex, I'm just bemused by his excitement over weird shirts and made a snarky, stupid comment. So sorry. I'm a girl who really likes him, but am a little conflicted about his sometimes-flamboyant (not that there's anything wrong with that) dress sense, that's all. And I think he was being really nice to those girls. But I'm not crazy about that running-man move.

The dude from The Rakes and the dude from !!! should have dance off.

Posted by Anonymous | June 19, 2007 5:19 PM

I'll add that, to his credit, he's caused me to reevaluate what I find attractive in a guy (not caring too much about your appearance)... but sometimes it's frustratingly a bit 'much,' that's all.

You're awfully hostile, by the way.

Posted by Anonymous | June 19, 2007 5:22 PM

that second part took so long b/c of some glitch.

Posted by Anonymous | June 19, 2007 5:26 PM

Uh, Lili? There is nothing insulting *at all* in the comment you're referring to. It's slightly bemused, but generally complimentary.

Posted by Anonymous | June 19, 2007 5:43 PM

Thanks, anon 5:43.

I love Alex, I'm just not crazy about skin-tight, polyester, constructivist-style shirts. I'm sure he knows what image he's projecting, I just don't get it.

And Lili, what an incisive comment accusing me of some sort of pedophilia (?!) What the fuck.

Posted by Anonymous | June 19, 2007 9:52 PM

I was rude, but my point is: Alex is genuinely a very nice and likeable bloke, albeit a bit awkward sometimes. He finds time to come out and meet fans-dealing with people is never easy and questions aren't always inspiring. So no matter what inanity he was talking about and how gayish his shirt was, he didn't deserve to be ridiculed.

Posted by Lili | June 20, 2007 1:50 AM

You need to lighten up, Lily. No one was saying he isn't a great guy. That was hardly ridicule up there, just gentle poking fun. Everyone mentioned his shirt; I doubt he was trying to blend into the woodwork anyway. He can handle a joking remark.

Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2007 2:57 AM

Lili, the original comment was like so: "I love how he's so excited about his new shirt and belt. Like a little kid." See the "love" bit? You may disagree with "A really gay little kid. I don't get him." - but it doesn't warrant calling a complete stranger a twat. You're basically objecting to the fact that someone likes Alex's enthusiasm but is unconvinced by his fashion choices. Personally, I loved the constructivist shirt - and Nick's outfit - but it's ok for others to disagree. Doesn't make them twats.

HI there Lili. The Original Offender speaking.

This is really OVER, but I just wanted to say that 5:01 accurately describes my intention. The stupedist thing about this is that I adore Alex and I was targeting -- affectionately ribbing -- the things that make him open to ridicule (esp. the "style-over-substance" accusations), paradoxically making me seem to you like the hater.

I mean, the guy was practically wearing his album artwork. I just thought it wasn't necessarily the best choice if he wants to transcend the narrow definition people have of his band.

And the fact that you think "gay" is the worst insult in the world probably says more about you anyway. Alex has always invited those ambiguities. His willingness to take risks like that is part of what I find so attractive about him; but, like I said, sometimes it leaves me a little nonplussed.

Meanwhile, why don't you go harrass the "Dear FF, you are irrelevent" guy. I was the one who told him to shut up and wait for the proverbial 15 minutes to expire, if he's so sure of it. (Conclusion: I'm spending way too much time here.)

Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2007 5:55 PM

It's me again, wasting time. I just had to preempt the "stupedist" mockery. Typo. Ditto irrelevant.

Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2007 6:58 PM

All right then, we clearly misunderstood eachother.
I haven't got any problem with Alex being gay or bi (if that's what he is), but there was something about "really really gay little kid" that really really pissed me off.
The shirt is just a part of his stage persona, as much as illegally tight trousers or any other crazy thing he wears.

Posted by Lili | June 21, 2007 6:46 AM

Okay, Lili, I'm calling a truce. I can see how what I said could have come off badly. Who knows, if someone else had said it, perhaps I would have been pissed! And sorry I got pretty mad/rude in return. I appreciate your defending him, I just think your anger was misplaced. And I don't think he is gay, I'm just baffled by his consistent tendency to make people "wonder" with his sartorial choices.

Glad this is over.

O.K.! Everybody link arms and sing "Kumbaya"!

Posted by nonominous | June 21, 2007 1:44 PM

Ha yeah, I treated this way too fucking seriously. Waste of time. But no one's ever called me a twat before. Kind of got to me. Or I'm just bored out of my mind chained to this computer all day....

Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2007 1:53 PM

Don't worry, I was just trying to post a funny comment, not mocking you.
