VOXTROT played Webster Hall, playing SIREN FESTIVAL
Last week we found out that Cursive, White Rabbits, and M.I.A. were added to the Village Voice Siren Festival (July 21) lineup that already included New York Dolls, We Are Scientists, Matt And Kim, The Black Lips, Dr. Dog, Lavender Diamond, The Detroit Cobras, Elvis Perkins, The Twilight Sad, and The Noisettes.
Today I can tell you that the final unannounced band is in fact: VOXTROT! Friday night I went to see them play (obviously) at their biggest headlining show to date here in NYC....
Voxtrot/Au Revior Simone dance party @ Webster Hall - June 15, 2007 (CRED)

Au Revior Simone opened, and, like the time they opened for Peter Bjorn and John at the same venue, came back to join the headliner on stage...twice - once to sing backup, and another for an all-out on-stage dance party. Unlike past Voxtrot shows (and I've seen a lot of them), this one was further enhanced by the presence of the Tosca String Quartet. Overall, great show - I missed Au Revoir Simone and Favourite Sons though.
More Voxtrot tour dates HERE.

can someone holler with a setlist?
pretty good show, by the way. i thought some of it was a tad flat (big room to fill) esp. songs from the new album but all the old stuff killed.

Very pleased with this year's lineup. I've excited to see 1/2 of the bands. Hopefully none of them are playing at the same time. Fingers crossed.

Yeah I agree with jc. Voxtrot performed well but great intimate rock doesn't come across so well in such a big space, and it looks like they will only play bigger and bigger venues from now on. The boys I saw play on a rooftop in Bushwick last 4th of July are fast becoming rock stars... ahh, so it goes.

What time did they go off? I know fridays can be a pain because webster likes to get people out of there early to make room for their dance party people.

Au Revoir Simone...sucked. Their music is so monotonous and unmemorable.

although they (voxtrot) performed well, i was left wholey unsatisfied by the show. the room was lacking a certain energy that led to more talking in the crowd than listening. so, i guess i wasn't the only one who thought: "eh" however, pela on saturday at mercury lounge ROCKED!

i thought au revoir simone was at leats enjoyable at times. favourite sons was quite awful in my opinion. voxtrot was a good time, and the quartet was a very nice addition. i just wish their set was longer than 55 minutes.

The final unannounced band? That's it? So sad.
What is it with the Village Voice and booking nothing but local bands with one indie album? We can see these artists almost at any time, they need to book mainly non-local artists. Most importantly, they should have booked more established bands: bands with 3 or more albums. I bet MIA will headline the second stage, despite the fact that her second album is only coming out now.
At least we know the New York Dolls will rock.

"What is it with the Village Voice and booking nothing but local bands with one indie album? "
Only four bands on the bill are local.

THIS SHOW STUNK. VOXTROT IS TERRIBLE.

Voxtrot aren't for everyone. If you think they're terrible, why did you go to the show?

I second the Pela rocking on Saturday comment. brakes also killed at that show.
remember when siren was a good free show? last time I recall was when death cab headlined.

Saw Pela at Maxwells on Friday..Total Frat Boy rock..no thanks! Electric Soft Parade were decent.

On another note...hey! That's MY photo! Rad!
Voxtrot is indeed not for everyone, and the Bowery show was superior (Webster Hall certainly sucks the life out of the room), but I had a blast.
Check out the rest of the photo set for afterparty pics.

Ok, Pela did not rock. They were awful.
Brakes were good.

the voxtrot show was really boring. they weren't that good, and the fact that their new album is medicore didn't help them either. i saw them last year at the mercury lounge and they were much better. guess that's the price of newfound fame.

Voxtrot was a good time. Saw Zach Condon at the show too, also a good time...

Nice picture Ryan.

well there was a reason i didnt go to the show, and judging from the reports i need not regret it.

"Only four bands on the bill are local."
New York Dolls (3 studio albums)
We Are Scientists (1 album)
White Rabbit (1 album)
Voxtrot (1 album)
Matt and Kim (1 album)
Unlike previous Siren festival were the New York bands were more established (Enon, JSBX, Liars, etc..) we get nothing but blogger bands. Have Voxtrot or White Rabbits ever been mentioned in more mainstream printed press? (AP, Big Takeover, Spin, etc..)
Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2007 12:11 PM
I thought Voxtrot was from Texas...
Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2007 12:29 PM
We Are Scientists has 5 albums and they're from california
Posted by Mike | June 18, 2007 12:57 PM
Voxtrot is from Austin, W.A.S. are from California but used to live in NYC and now base out of Philly.
Any news on a setlist from the Voxtrot show @ Webster???
Posted by MARLOW | June 18, 2007 1:20 PM
why do they have 'Brooklyn, NY'
for there location on myspace.
Maybe they moved to NY like every other band

1) White Rabbits will probably be opening one of the stages aka they'll go on around 1pm. Do you expect that the opener be writtin about in "mainstream printed press"? Anyway, is "mainstream printed press" your guage on a band's worth?
2) Voxtrot have been written about in SPIN, Rolling Stone, Blender, Stuff, you name it.
3) AP? Are you kidding?
4) Enon are established? I believe their last NYC show was at Mercury Lounge.

Harold layeth the smack down.

wasn't Voxtrot's album reviewed in the New York Times?
Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2007 1:48 PM
"wasn't Voxtrot's album reviewed in the New York Times?"
yes, and unlike Pitchfork, they loved it.
Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2007 1:52 PM
What pitchfork says, goes.
Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2007 2:15 PM
Well, I guess the New York Times is as inefficient judging music as I always thought.
Voxtrot are just another boring, unimportant derivative band that keeps getting pumped out and lauded by ineffective indie twerps.
Honestly. %95 of the indie "rock" is shit.
Posted by Chris | June 18, 2007 2:23 PM
Voxtrot are from Texas (not sure where all of the individual members all live, but the "band" is based there). We Are Scientists went to school in California and have lived in New York for six years (still live here). Both only have one album in widespread release.
While I agree with Chris' assessment of Voxtrot, his summary evaluation of "indie 'rock'" is moronic.
Posted by Stuart | June 18, 2007 4:33 PM
Well i disagree with chris' assessment. Only about 80% of indie rock is shit. Once in a while a great gem of an indie artist slips through becoming mainstream.
