Oh, well. Sucks that Bowery Presents is going to make us foot the bill for that Northsix renovation for the rest of our fucking lives.

J-
Wah, wah, I have to pay 40 dollars to see a bill of great bands at a venue usually used for festivals where the tickets are much more expensive. Why whine? Nothing better to do, I imagine. I paid 60+ dollars to go to Lollpalooza in 1995 over at Randall's Island. It costs more money to put on a temporary event at a space like that than to hold one in a venue that operates on a daily basis.
I could understand if you were complaining about a 40 dollar ticket to the Bowery Ballroom or to the Mercury Lounge, but no - you are whining for the sake of whining. Congratulations. You're no better than a soccer mom.
Posted by tumblehawk | July 23, 2007 12:08 PM
this isn't going to sell out right away, right? I'll have time to go to mercury lounge and pick up tickets...
I've heard this place holds anywhere from 20,000 - 70,000 people. I was there last year and it is fucking HUGE.
But then again, I know how crazy these AF fans are.
And I assume this will be straight GA tix? (Which I guess means people will be camping at Randall's Island for a good spot.)

I used to live in East Harlem and would see that History Channel sign while walking in the neighborhood, so kudos for using that photo. The one time I went to Randalls Island (for the Underground Garage Festival back in 2004), all I had to do was walk to 125th and Lex and take the bus that goes there via the Triboro bridge.

Not to mention the fact that Arcade Fire has been a $40 band for a year or two. It's not that the venue is over-charging us--it's that the band has gotten popular enough to demand those prices and sell out the venue.
I don't like it, but I've been one of those people paying those prices, so I guess it means it's working for them.

Lollapalooza was not 60+ dollars in 1995. I don't remember how much it was, but I'm pretty damn sure it wasn't that expensive. Great lineup that year: Mighty Mighty Bosstones --> Sonic Youth

It'll kick ass. But I might want opera glasses. Maybe Beirut will show up or something for special guests?

Does anyone else remember seeing Arcade Fire at Arlene's Grocery?
Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2007 12:26 PM
I'm wondering if they're gonna have some weird setup for this. It seems like it'll be a bit cold in October. Maybe some big ass tent?
Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2007 12:29 PM
The Bowery Ballroom is a nice enough venue that seeing Arcade Fire there for $40 would be worth it.

Could swear I remember it being that much after fees/mailing/etc. Either way - a festival (and I don't know yet that this LCD/Arcade Bowery presents thing quite falls under the auspices of a "festival" but Randall's is certainly a festival setting) will always incur greater costs...delivery of equipment, stagehands, etc.. And yeah that was a great lineup. I was young and hadn't developed the loving relationship I now have with delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol but I still thought the giant golden Buddha holding a pot leaf that Cypress Hill brought out on stage with them was terrific.

Here's a good question for the usual whiners. Would you pay $20 to see Arcade Fire? Would you pay $20 to see LCD Soundsystem? If so, then what is the big deal with a $40 ticket to see both? I thought tickets would have been significantly more expensive. I mean, Interpol is $40 @ MSG.

Does anyone know what time the presale starts?
Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2007 12:47 PM
It starts on July 23 at 12:47 PM

What's next with Arcade Fire - Giant's Stadium?
Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2007 1:13 PM
No, I hear there planning ArcadefireStock in upstate New York.

arcadapalooza!

Re: "I used to live in East Harlem and would see that History Channel sign while walking in the neighborhood, so kudos for using that photo...via the Triboro (sic) bridge"
Yes, thanks so much for encouraging the History Channel's crass commercialization of the Triborough (NOT "Triboro") Bridge. Are they going to rename it the History Channel Bridge if they pony up enough dough?
Speaking of which, isn't it nice they named Ichan Stadium in honor of the infamous corporate raider Carl Ichan?
Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2007 1:56 PM
They're worth the $40, but not necessarily the trip and the crowd and the wait and the standing. Unless I'm waiting outside the venue for hours, I won't get a much better seat than I had at United Palace Theatre, which I believe was priced similarly

Getting there isn't so bad, it's getting out of there with 60,000 other people when the show ends that's a nightmare.
Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2007 2:11 PM
In response to 1:56PM:
Yes, I'm sure they just HANDED Carl Ichan the stadium name to congratulate him on all his wealth. There was probably NO funding by him at all.
Don't be so damned blind. a) He probably funded that entire stadium, at which many of us have attended and enjoyed many events. b) You're going to rip the History channel, one of the only outlets for DECENT television left these days?
Find a real cause, moron. Take the time spent whining about who has money to make your own.

Well put, StopCrying.
And since when does $10 more a ticket make or break someone? My rent went up by 50% this year, deal with it, NYC is getting more expensive.

anyone seriously know when they go one presale tomorrow?

"I'm wondering if they're gonna have some weird setup for this. It seems like it'll be a bit cold in October. Maybe some big ass tent?"
Relax, the show is on October 6th. It is still hot and humid in NYC through the end of September, doubt it will make a big difference in temperature being a week later.
Posted by Brendan | July 23, 2007 5:47 PM
i seriously doubt presale is going to be an issue. this venue is HUGE.

You must a recent transplant. Sure, we had some nice indian summers in the past years, but usually things get colder starting in October. By the time AF hits the stage in the evening, things would have cooled off considerably.
Don't believe me?
http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/monthly/graph/10001
Average high in Oct is 64. The average in Sep is only 75. Ask anyone who has gone to a Jones Beach/PNC show in October, it gets cold at night. Even Summerstage shows in September are chilly. It's gonna be cold when these Canadians take the stage.

what I want to know is does anyone know if you you can buy these tix at a box office? If not, I ain't going. I HATE ticketmaster.

Now if someone like Radiohead was playing at Randall's Island, I would be down for paying for $50.....Arcade Fire and LCD?! Come on....they have two full lengths out......let's cut this nonsense and stop wasting your money on these hipster/hype bands and go spend money on bjork/sonic youth/sigur ros and all those good bands worth seeing......just check both of these bands in a club setting (Bowery/Irving Plaza size).....these bands are going to sound terrible in that open space....they're both NOT STADIUM size bands.....i mean who is playing there this wkend....freaking RAGE, WU-TANG, THE ROOTS, PUBLIC ENEMY....all these bands have incredible catalogues under their belt....not arcade fire/lcd......but i know with additional bands being added like the rapture, broken social scene....it might be worth seeing....i said MIGHT
p.s. just buy them at the door if you want to go....it's not going to sell out anytime soon....actually it won't sorry im saying at the most 14000 people will go to this....

Not that I'm going or anything, but the info says that the concert is at 3:30 PM. WTF is up with that?
Posted by Ron | July 24, 2007 11:16 AM
Not that I would go to this, but the ticket info has a 3:30 start time. WTF?
Posted by Ron | July 24, 2007 11:18 AM
Yeah, I just saw that. 3:30 go time? Whoa, doctor.
Posted by Shep | July 24, 2007 11:24 AM
It gets cold in early October, do you really want to see an outdoor show in the evening?
Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2007 11:31 AM
The early gate time points toward other acts being added later. This will be more than an AC/LCD show in the end.
Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2007 11:42 AM
its usually beautiful out in early october, and by the water and all, it should be really nice out.
Anyway, just got my tickets, who else is confirmed and going?
Posted by Josh | July 24, 2007 12:03 PM
fuck Randalls Island. I would go see them in the city anytime, but not commuting just for them.
Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2007 12:13 PM
going!
