As I try to catch up after this exhausting weekend, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who helped make Citysol a complete success and all around good time. And if you were there, I hope you enjoyed it more than this kid...

Citysol

...hopefully instead, you enjoyed it as much as these kids...

Les Savy Fav's Syd Butler & child @ Citysol

I took the first picture, but the second one of Syd Butler of Les Savy Fav (who only played with his daughter strapped to him for one song) is by TomVu, and was also posted on Gothamist.

Las Savy Fav has quite a front man ah? That guy is nuts.

Before Saturday, it had been quite some time since I last saw Les Savy Fav, but they won me back by covering not just Superchunk, but Archers of Loaf, too, before their set ended. Awesome. Awesome.

aawwww how cute is his little girl?!?!?!

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2007 10:43 AM

That was fun...tnx.

i rode my bike up the fdr and just pulled over by the stage...it was awesome.

unfortunately, land of talk was starting to play and we know how much they suck...i hightailed it back south to bk.

this was so much fun. thank you BV for helping to organize such a worthwhile cause and overall super fun time. good job on the bands. it was a wonderful time, beautiful evening and kickass music.

i caught these are powers (awesome), o'death (awesome as well), land of talk (lame)
and les savy fav (outrageous- love 'em)
misses besnard lakes wnated to see 'em. anyone catch 'em?

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2007 11:41 AM

frankpollis were the bomb. too bad people missed them cos they were the first band.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2007 11:54 AM

Of the sets that I caught, The Besnard Lakes were the best. OCDJ was a lot of fun too.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2007 12:02 PM

besnard lakes were good. reminded me of my bloody valentine. these are powers were crazy good. think ocdj almost blew the power to the stage!

The Besnard Lakes cover of the Fleetwod Mac song was awesome.

The Besnard Lakes cover of the Fleetwood Mac song was awesome.

Posted by anon | July 16, 2007 12:43 PM

they played 'Precision Auto' straight into 'Wrong'. It was SICK!!!

Posted by Paul L | July 16, 2007 12:44 PM

The Besnard Lakes played suprisingly LOUD at the Mercury Lounge, and they sounded amazing. I have pics and a video of their performance of Disaster on my blog.

Posted by Eric | July 16, 2007 12:51 PM

Instrumentally, yes, they sounded amazing at Merc, but vocally, not so much. Vocals were drowned out and sounded almost like they were singing over a high school PA system. It was frustrating. The mix could have been much better if they turned down the instruments a little.

O' Death were amazing - stole the show for me.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2007 1:10 PM

What Fleetwood Mac song did Besnard Lakes play?

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2007 1:18 PM

"What Fleetwood Mac song did Besnard Lakes play? "

you make loving fun.

the drummer sang lead (only time in the set) and a girl in the front row rocked out w. a mac t-shirt on.

but I don't like it when a band does a cover that is better than all of their own songs. just me?

I rode past on my bike, and was very annoyed by all the inconsiderate hipsters congregating in the bike lane.

Posted by Gwin | July 16, 2007 1:38 PM

had to go before les savy fav, i'm afraid (commitments, commitments...). but besnard lakes were a big positive surprise - i didn't appreciate them much before the show, but they delivered. o'death were loads of fun too.

speaking of kids - unfortunately i don't have photos, but my two year old enjoyed the hell out of it! (he was the kid in the black moose shirt running around and dancing.)

I only caught Land of Talk @ Citysol: average tracks, but wicked live. Great event, BV.
By the way, the hummus/chick pea wraps were awesome.
I missed Besnard Lakes but saw them Friday @ Merc.
I agree with Anonymous @ 1:03 P.M. that it was too loud at the Merc. This band's strength is their mellow yet aggressive songs that BUILD up.

Posted by michael Guerra | July 16, 2007 2:31 PM

LOT: Hi, we're Land of Talk
Douche: Woooo, these guys are AWESOME
LOT: blah blah blah, please buy our CD
Douche: I'll download it instead
Some guy: You won't find it
Douche: If they're on Youtube, i can find them. I bet you I can find the album
(pause)
Douche: What's the name of the band again?

RE: Anon 3:29

Was that the guy in the wife-beater up front who kept asking for high fives?

Really fun day. Much appreciation for everyone involved.

I was riding on my bike too and was really thrilled with the whole thing and scene! Finally NYC is using it's parks for something good and fun! Saw the Budos band and was digging them big time!

It was hot out so I left, cool building made of weird wood too.

Posted by morty | July 17, 2007 11:37 AM

what was the last song les savy fav played, it sounded like it might have been a cover

Posted by Anonymous | July 17, 2007 12:06 PM

Anyone have a complete setlist?

Posted by Anonymous | July 17, 2007 12:19 PM

more pics of other bands????

Posted by Anonymous | July 17, 2007 2:23 PM

I have some videos up form Les Savy fav. A bit shaky from the crowd. It was five rows back but it was a bit rowdy around there.
