Dan Deacon @ McCarren Pool, Brooklyn, NY - pics

On the one hand, it wouldn't have been a Dan Deacon show if he hadn't played on the ground - with the people - with HIS people. On the other hand, maybe Dan was being a little unfair by repeatedly calling everyone hanging out around the perimeter of the pool "the Flickr Zone". I mean, the show was awesome - short, but awesome, BUT, it wasn't that awesome for those who really couldn't get close enough to Dan to know what was going on - especially if they didn't know what to expect, but whatever...

Dan opened the July 8th, 2007 show. He went on at 4pm.

Good point BV. Plus, it was like 90-something degrees and baking. Just because you don't want to be crammed in a with a bunch of other sweaty people near the front doesn't mean you aren't enjoying yourself. Some of us like to stay back and drink our beers in peace while listening to the music. Dan Deacon's great but he's played much better sets. His in-between song banter wasn't even as funny as it normally is, in my opinion.

That's exactly true. At least 50%, probably more of his show is his banter. Usually he's pretty hilarious and does various sorts of bits throughout his set (for lack of a better word.) I thought his banter on Sunday fell a bit flat.

i spoke to dan after the show. he drove straight through the night from detroit (10 hours) after a show there to make it to the pool in time. i think his show was awesome for someone on no sleep in the hot sun opening up a show.

the late show was way better, not only was it thrown by someone/people who know what they hell he's/they're doing, but dan deacons set was longer, and it was hotter, dancier, messier, drunker, and photo-blogger-less - the way shows should be.
