hey BV, any word who's playing the pool on the 22nd yet?

Erase Errata was a bit disappointing...it seemed like their instrumentals needed to be turned up or something. They're supposed to play hard nosed punk, but hell, even Octopus Project played louder than them...

WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL ME HOW DAN DEACON WAS ALREADY!!!!!! GEEZ!!!!

I thought Erase Errata was pretty good but I do think their songs really miss Sara Jaffe's killer guitar playing. I really wish she was still in the band. Plus, it allowed Jenny (the singer) to play the trumpet which was a huge part of their sound and is now apparently absent from their sets.

Anyone have any insight into the whole RSVP thing? The pool party site recommends - is it necessary? Faster to get in?
I don't remember this being an issue/option last season.

ep-
The Sub Pop tour page lists a Band of Horses performance at McCarren on the 22nd.

It is unnecessary to RSVP. I've had no problems getting in to the free shows this summer and I have yet to RSVP.
Posted by will | July 9, 2007 2:29 PM
RSVP is not necessary (umhhh yet?).

The rsvp thing is really recommended for future shows and something everyone should do every week regardless of whether or not they actually check names at the door. It only takes 2 minutes of your time to do and is really going to help for shows like TV on the Radio where the capacity is probably going to be reached and they'll need to rely on an rsvp list to let people in.

No need to RSVP.
Octopus Project was really good. How long was Dan Deacon on for?
Posted by dave | July 9, 2007 2:33 PM
Band of Horses is rumored for one of the open dates too. Possibly waiting for the Hiro show to sell out before they announce the pool date.

Dan was only on for 30-45 min. Erase Errata was awful and everyone around me seemed to think the same. Octopus Project was awesome. Need some pics from that part of the show!

I not only have pics of Octopus Project up...but also a video as well on my blog!
Actually, I have 2 other videos of them on my Youtube as well.

Gotta agree that Octopus Project was awesome!

I didn't stick around for the last couple bands, but Dan Deacon and OCDJ were two tons of fun. Instead of setting up on stage, they both played down in the crowd. OCDJ was wearing a sweater and mask-- must have been a million degrees inside there, and DD was a total crowd-pleaser. Wish I could have gone to their show afterwards at DBA. Did anyone make it over there?

The sound definitely seemed off during the first half of the Erase Errata set. I'm a fan and enjoyed their performance but it didn't blow me away. My friend and I agreed that it seemed like the crowd was pretty apathetic to their performance and they probably didn't win over many new fans yesterday.

"...it seemed like the crowd was pretty apathetic to their performance and they probably didn't win over many new fans yesterday."
That's because Erase Errata weren't very, very good. New York audiences are accused of being "bored, snobby and/or apathetic".
I think rather that NY crowds are flooded with so much music that anything mediocre just doesn't cut it anymore. We have access to too much great stuff that the simply "OK" just isn't good enough.
Everyone's looking to be blown away (myself included) and it's just not going to happen every time.
Erase Errata weren't bad, just not anything special.

Christopher - My statement was purely and observation of the crowd, not a critique. Maybe apathetic was the wrong word. I'm sure the only reason I was into their set was because I'm already into their music. You're right, Erase Errata was nothing special yesterday and that's why the crowd (including the people I was with) seemed disinterested in the performance.

Okay, so Dan was great. He did perform on down with the crowd, all the cool kids near him were looking on with stars in their eyes, one kid who looked about 12 hugged him and snuggled under his arm and did not let go until well after the inappropriate point. There was a dance circle, which this really cute girl who had been off dancing crazy with her friends in a far corner (I think, don't ask how I know..) just popped up in the middle of the crowd to inform Dan she'd be going first. And she did, but for so long, that everyone gave up waiting for her to tag team and just started dancing crazy, except one guy who just laid face down on the cement, but well, that's pretty crazy too. This did manage to eliminate the "circle" and return it to a regular show. Everyone was dancing, smiling, and singing along, and there were the least technical glitches I have ever seen for a Dan Deacon show.
Technically, the Death by Audio show didn't fare as well. The left speaker was protesting for most of the night, which was just distracting. The fact that it was the hottest, smallest room I have ever seen a show in, and maybe the hottest room I have ever been in ever, including saunas, made up for the speaker. OCDJ did an amazing job of getting the crowd going before Dan came on. I particularly was happy for some Justice's D.A.N.C.E. and Flosstradomus' Matt and Kim remix. By the time Dan came on - midnight or so- I was drenched in sweat, but luckily not wearing skinny black jeans. Honestly though, it felt great, and $3 whisky and pbr helped a great deal. There was crowd surfing, there was another dance circle, Dan apologized for taking a shit ton of dickhead pills - which really, everyone loves him so much that it's not possible for him to come off slightly dickheady at all. He ended with a spectacular as always Wham City, which weeds out the fans from the people fanning themselves with the lyric sheets because they got lost after "out of the fountain flows gold". Can't wait for september!

I was at the DBA show to - I don't know why you're bringing up the sound, it was great from where I was standing. the one speaker tower did go out like three times throughout the night, but only for maybe like 20 seconds each time.
I would guess the heat was making the amps overheat, but really it was no big deal and it happened only a handful of times anyway.
getting to see Dan Deacon in an intimate setting - when will that happen again now that he's famous?
really, that DBA show was special and on top of that, pretty efficient and on time and sounded awesome considering that it was a $6 show and totally on the diy tip. I take endearing ramshackle-ness over slick and corporate sponsored any day.
And hey - didn't have to wait in line for three hours in the hot sun either!
Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2007 7:00 PM
yeah i agree with todd p, waiting in the sun sucks.

I went to the DBA show - it was a real rager and hot as fuck. The floors were so wet with sweat they were slippery. fun and sloppy. Dan Deacon was great and like seeing him last year before he blew all up. Hopefully not the last time to see him in a little place? Future Islands were really awesome. I was in the the other room during OCDJ and thought his set was the dj. got there too late for Video Hippos.
the pool show was fun too, in very different ways. OCDJ and DD were awesome - OCDJ made me feel like I was at a quiet little rave at 2 o clock in the afternoon. Dan Deacon in the day was like seeing the the strangest/best kid's party / bar mitzvah entertainer ever. Erase Errata was a little painful to watch - like a time warp to 2002. And for some reason they were way quiet. I left before octopus project.

DAN DEACON STOLE THE SHOW!

What a shocker, the sound at a Todd P show sucked, how many times have we heard that? Maybe because it always sucks. I was at both shows Sunday, and the Pool show was so much more fun. Get over yourself Todd Peeeee

what a shocker, JellyNYC is the message boards, anonymously shit talking some other promoter - because they're hurt and angry at all the flack they're getting from fucking up their own shows.
