Friday night fireworks @ Coney Island
Coney Island fireworks on the beach, 2006

I was gonna see Fujiya & Miyagi at the Seaport and what not on Friday night, but last minute I felt the need to get away - and, so I escaped to Coney Island in time to catch the ridiculously awesome, weekly fireworks they shoot off from the beach. If you haven't been to Coney Island on a Summer Friday night, and sat on the beach - both near the ocean and within a few yards of where they shoot the fireworks off, then I highly recommend you go check it out. It made the fourth-of-july-fireworks still fresh in my memory seem absolutely boring. The show starts every Friday at 9:30 pm, and ends around 10:00. The fireworks are serious too - it's not a cheap display. They are loud, big, go on for a while, and are in your face. Go before it's too late.
