Harry Potter spotted @ the 2007 Siren Festival
DOWNLOAD: Harry & The Potters - Save Ginny Weasley (MP3)
DOWNLOAD: Harry & The Potters - Wizard Chess (MP3)

and again....

In the second picture I just happened to be walking by a Voxtrot fan holding a Harry Potter book, and approaching Ramesh. They were then nice enough to pose for me. The first picture was taken not long earlier while waiting for Cursive to go on.
More Harry & The Potters here.

So pathetic...

Probably had a better time than anybody else at that shit
Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2007 1:16 AM
I swear I saw Harry Potter interviewing Ramesh for some TV show.

I'm upset I missed this Festival. How was Lavender Diamond? I love their live sets..
Posted by Kira | July 22, 2007 2:54 AM
lavendar diamond was good. rebecca kept talking about their idea of building an eco friendly amusement park to replace coney island. and also that shitting in water is not good.

M.I.A. was good. Anyone has an extra ticket for Studio B on Wednesday?
Posted by Eduardo | July 22, 2007 3:32 AM
we are scientists were impressive. voxtrot started and ended strong but the middle had all tunes from the album and thus was forgettable. cursive was dead on though. ron hermione and harry all live. way to lie jk rowling saying two main characters are gonna die in this final book (we assumed from those three characters)

I didn't really like M.I.A's set, it was kind of boring...I don't know maybe I was expecting too much?
Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2007 6:52 AM
Lavendar Diamond was terrible. Does she think she can dance? On a positive note, White Rabbits, Matt & Kim, & M.I.A. were terrific!
Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2007 8:57 AM
more like....harry snothead.
amirite guys?

I think MIA tickets for Studio B were all will-call, at least when I bought, so it's gonna be tough for those without tickets. I do think they will be letting people in at the door maybe...
Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2007 9:42 AM
MIA was horrible!!

The New York Dolls rocked Coney.Their cover of Janise Joplin's "Piece of My Heart" is still stuck in my head. And the tribute to Johnny Thunders with "You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory" was beautiful. But the college
idiots infront of me were too busy making out to appreciate good music.I never seen so many ugly geeky guys with "hot" girlfriends.Times have changed since the geeky guys (like me) were lonely dateless shut-ins.Now we would probably be considered "cool" for the same things that made us outsiders then.I probably would have gone to the show with Paris Hilton's indie loving clone today!
M.I.A. put on a great show.I also thought that the Noisettes were pretty good.

I never read a single Potter book or saw a single Potter movie, but I catch Harry & the Potters every time they're in town. The best show of the week. They totally rock.
Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2007 11:39 AM
White Rabbits were amazing, and the best part was that they were so early that it was very easy to get up close.
Posted by Sam | July 22, 2007 11:46 AM
Noisettes and Dr. Dog were decent -- I didn't stay for anything else.
Also of note, though, is that Arcade Fire/LCD Soundsystem were announced to be playing NYC on 10/6 (at MSG, I assume).

M.I.A.'s set doesn't sound very good outdoors IMO. Bunch of photos and video from it:

matt & kim were awesome. only set i saw where people were actually dancing and crowd surfing.
besides them i listened to the first half of we are scientists and the first half of voxtrot. both sounded good but weren't very fun to watch. walked over the M.I.A. and turned right around at the sight of the crowd, there was no way we were getting anywhere near the stage so my friend and i just went and waited for the rest of our friends on the boardwalk.

people were reading at the Decemberists show last week too. I thought that was so typical.

I missed pretty much all of the bands and just ended up getting drunk on the beach. I definitely had a better time than I would have otherwise.
Posted by paulina | July 22, 2007 1:01 PM
The Noisettes were pretty great.
That and Lavender Diamond were the only sets i saw. They were ok, but not my thing. Did anyone think her banter style seemed contrived?

It just goes to show how its more important to be seen reading a Harry Potter book than it is to just enjoy reading it at home. Although it makes sense to kill time, I have never seen books at concerts but yesterday I saw so many people with Harry Potter books. Why just that book? If it was common to see books at concerts I wouldn't think anything of it. But its just that I've only seen Harry Potter books at concerts.
Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2007 1:43 PM
The New York Dolls are a cover band of themselves.
Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2007 2:32 PM
went to a party last night, and some dumb bitch was sitting there in the corner reading the HP book. just stay home and read it if you want to, or wait to go home.
this is why normal people dislike Harry Potter people
Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2007 2:42 PM
Reading is so 2006.

Farewell Siren fest hopefully never to be heard from again. Village Voice puts on the worst events ever and as this is supposedly the last siren (at least at coney island) this is the best they could get?
Probably the worst siren fest ever. No wonder so many people were reading Potter.
So long siren. I'll be one of the 1st to throw dirt on your coffin!

indienowblows...
why dont u stop being a douche..
im so sick of people like you on these boards
complaining about everything and "how it used to be.." and you were probably saying sucked since day one..if you tink the village voice always throw bad events then dont fucking go..your prob. one of the assholes who just stand there doing a show cos ur too cool to dance or whatever..at the end of the day it was a FREE fucking show with alot of good bands...and wy would u want siren to die? i mean there is always atleast 3 good acts playing during the day each year, sometimes more but when you think about it getting to see 3 bad/halfway decent/good bands for free or even more is a good fucking deal. im gonna miss siren this was the fourth one i've been too and i always manage to have fun cos there is always a good band to see, i got drunk moshed to black lips danced to m.i.a. and sang along with the New York Dolls and i got fucked up too. im glad the village voice did this as lon as they could with everything being so expensive in the city, they didnt gave us a festival to enjoy a wide range of bands and it sucks cos pitchfork is the only festival close now...

I didn't "get" MIA. I'd never heard her music and I'm not trying to sound like a snob but after seeing her I felt like she is a novelty act. All her beats sounded the (just a lot of drum and bass with no melody) and she just screamed a lot. Maybe it was just bad sound.
On a positive note, Elvis Perkins was awesome and The Black Lips were hilarious and entertaining. Did anyone understand what the black lips' guitarist was saying during that random 30 second speech he made. It was incoherent. hilarious.

"The New York Dolls are a cover band of themselves."
yeah, agreed... damn good cover band, though. name me a better concert-going moment than "Human Being" at south st. seaport last year and i'll call you either a liar or an ignorant fool.

I came for The Twilight Sad and thoroughly enjoyed their opening set. A little loud, but it didn't damper the show. I kept the Harry Potter in my bag, though; the 75 minute ride on the subway each way provided me more than enough time to read . . .

I wasn't at Siren, but seeing people reading there makes sense to me. The book was released that morning, so it was probably convenient to pick it up on the way. You don't usually see people reading at shows because they're often in dark venues/at night. Almost all of Siren is well lit, so why not read to kill time in between sets? Would it have been cooler if another book by Alex Kapranos had been released Saturday morning so everyone was reading that?
Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2007 9:47 AM
who cares if people read in between sets? at least they're not spilling their drink on you. is it really bothering you that much? if they're reading during the set, that's another thing, they should just go home. but if nothing's going on, what's the difference?
you guys need to get a life.

The M.I.A. set was good shit! yeah some of the people were donkeys trying to push in and not even smelling good, but the crowd around me was as entertaining as the singer, and most everyone was dancing, so it was fun. Never saw her live, and took 3 hours to freaking get there, but it was worth it. She's tiny but fiesty :) And those HP people... think some are just posers who think it's the new trend. bleh!
there was this one dude though who pushed infront of my group just to wave his stupid purple floatation wand... moron! use deodorant next time!
love those free festivals too megatron :)

"The New York Dolls are a cover band of themselves."
If that's true then they are actually better than themselves.
Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2007 11:03 AM
"we are scientists were impressive."
- damn stage conflict. would have loved to see them again.
"voxtrot started and ended strong but the middle had all tunes from the album and thus was forgettable.
- Partially agree
"cursive was dead on though."
- Completely agree
"The Noisettes were pretty great." and "Elvis Perkins was awesome"
- Definitely

I personally don't see anything wrong with reading between sets.
It kills time during long change-overs, and, so long as you aren't reading during the actual set, and aren't missing anything it isn't a big deal.

RE: NY DOLLS a cover band of themselves:
I wish all bands covered themselves as well.

i only really went to the show to see cursive, but i had a good time while i was there. i was a bit disappointed that cursive didn't have anyone playing cello this time, though. no one can replace gretta, but the last time i saw them they at least had someone playing cello. their sound has changed so much with the addition of the trumpet and sax and the lost cello.

I'd read during the concert even, but I'm scared that the Band of Horses' dude might give me the finger and call me out on it....

Okay, I left the first comment. I guess it is mostly funny being that it is the global craze of Ha-Ree Potah. If I saw some cool artistical - musical - intellectual - spritual, interesting books I'd be like, "cool."
Harry Potter is making more Wizards Warlocks and Magickians!@
but it is a veiled entrance.
