"Already sold mine, thanks for the heads up!"

If you are saying you sold your FREE tickets to someone for money then you are officially a FUCKING DOUCHEBAG

"anyone know when new pornographers are actually going on? "

yeah, the real question is if and when I can make it to see the fireworks from Brooklyn. Anyone?

Posted by Anonymous | July 3, 2007 12:57 PM

it's supposed to be gates at 2pm, show at 3:30pm. if midlake's on first, i'd say new pornographers are on by 4:30 or 5...

Posted by ag | July 3, 2007 1:05 PM

i believe last year for the belle & sebastian concert, we got out before 7pm and that was with a rain delay.

Posted by Qbertplaya | July 3, 2007 1:12 PM

Will I get in without tix? I went two years ago to see Stephen Malkmus, and didn't have tickets.

Anyone?

Posted by Freepster | July 3, 2007 1:14 PM

I have no problem when people sell tickets they paid for, but I think it is really sleazy and low class to sell tickets that were provided free as as a benefit to the community.

Posted by Anonymous | July 3, 2007 1:23 PM

it's completely dick...on craigslist tons of assholes, pardon my french, are asking for best offers. i'll show you a best offer.

Posted by drew | July 3, 2007 1:27 PM

You dont have to pardon your french. Its a total shithead move and you are right. We should make them crazy offers, meet up with these people and kick the shit out of them and take their tickets.

I have an extra if anyone is interested tapeheads75@yahoo.com

Posted by Kap | July 3, 2007 1:42 PM

I read somewhere that Battery Park is not a good place to watch the fireworks this year. Is this true?

Posted by Anonymous | July 3, 2007 1:43 PM

"meet up with these people and kick the shit out of them and take their tickets."

Wow, you are so brave when sitting behind a computer screen. You have access to CL, why don't you practice what you preach? Answer some of the ads.

Posted by Anonymous | July 3, 2007 1:46 PM

While this was better than the B&S Starbucks fiasco, I wonder why they can't figure out how to distribute tickets without having to pick them up.

Posted by Anonymous | July 3, 2007 1:47 PM

I know...they should do it the way Time Out New York distributes free screening passes, which is that after you click to claim a pass, you get to print a copy of the pass with YOUR name on it, and you just have to bring it to the theater and show ID to get in.

B.V. = V.I.P.
That is all.

What's the acceptable mark up on the price of a concert ticket?

What's the acceptable mark up on the price of a concert ticket?

Posted by Anonymous | July 3, 2007 3:32 PM

There is not a ceiling on the acceptable markup on the price of a concert ticket. It just sucks ass, and since it's a lame thing to do, you might as well shoot the moon. In for a penny, in for a pound.. and all that. Concert ticket scalping is a weird thing. On one hand, it's created an industry, which means more people can have jobs. On the other hand, it can mean that some of the most ardent fans of bands, who are younger and less well-off, get shut out of events they really want to see. In a city like New York, you have a lot of people with a a lot of money and no time to dick around on ticketmaster websites, or standing in line for such things. So they call 'their guy' and they don't give a shit what it costs.
As for this free show..... there are just too many problems to list. There are people who will dive into anything that's free... so they were chomping at the bit to grab tickets to a show by bands that they probably don't know a thing about. Lots of indie fans sleep in, and missed out. It shouldn't shock anyone that someone's trying to cash in. The phrase 'you snooze you lose' comes to mind.
It's not right, but this is where a free-market society doesn't work very well.
See some of you there.

i think the idea of giving away tickets for a "free" event is an inherently bad idea. if you want to go to the show, you should have to wait in line.

and not wait in line for a ticket, but wait to get in.

eh, i don't want to go anyway. i thought dan bejar might be with the band, but he's not listed on the r2r site.

when should i get to batpark if i want a good spot in the front?

Posted by Anonymous | July 3, 2007 9:38 PM

I was just down there at 9 am and there weren't many people there for tix. I think there's probably a good shot to get tickets if you show up soon.

Posted by Anonymous | July 4, 2007 9:45 AM

will they still play if it rains???

Posted by Anonymous | July 4, 2007 10:50 AM

Well last year when Belle and Sebastian played, they said that playing in the rain would be okay, but they couldn't play if there was lightning. That's why there was a delay. So I'm guessing, it will be the same case this year

Posted by Anonymous | July 4, 2007 11:38 AM

I thought Dan Bejar was playing with them at this show.

great set, Neko was indeed there, craig seemed to do all of his stage banter on top of her comments for some reason, but all an all a high energy (is there any other kind) show from the NPs. Highlights were the opening Challengers>Use It, Laws Have Changed, All The Old Showstoppers, Jackie, Dressed In Cobras, From Blown Speakers, Sing Me Spanish Techno, Mass Romantic, Twin Cinema, My Rights Versus Yours, and a truly inspired Bleeding Heart Show to close the proper set. The encore featured beautiful vocals from Neko on These Are the Fables. The last song played was Slow Descent Into Alcoholism; fitting, as the crowd soon after trudged past a vomiting showgoer on our way out of the damp field onward towards bbq and explosions.

"you should have to wait in line."

BAD BAD BAD. Bad idea. I have more important things to do that stand in a dumbass line all day. Why dont you people realize this. This year's method of distribution was great. Much better than last year's $tarbuck$ fiasco or two year's clusterfuck.

Plus, this year they had plenty to give away at the entrance so that anyone could get in.

Posted by Anonymous | July 4, 2007 11:33 PM

"you should have to wait in line."

I agree 100%. First come, first served, it can't get simpler than that.

Posted by Anonymous | July 5, 2007 12:23 AM

A fun set on a grey afternoon, the Pornos finished just ahead of the rain showers. The new songs sounded strong, although a bit more live work on some of those tracks will bring them fully up to snuff. I particularly liked the title track to "Challengers." Neko's voice sounded fine, and she, and the band were in good humor, joking about everything from the turkey's nest overhead to Lady Liberty in the harbor. The band were briefly augmented by an accordianist and horns(?), visibly blocked by my vantage point and sort of lost in the overall sound. Cameramen roamed about the stage, so maybe some of the performance will surface on a bonus DVD near you.

Posted by drewo | July 5, 2007 10:02 AM

I had a great time at the too-short show, especially because everyone there wanted to be there. The ticket distribution system, I think, worked splendidly in this sense. It was so nice to look around and see people dancing, listening and enjoying themselves rather than the usual talking, texting and drinking. It was almost like being at a concert in any city but NY.

Posted by The NB | July 5, 2007 10:15 AM

Does Dan Bejar ever play with them any more? Is he on the new album?

3rd time seeing the band and the first time with Neko. Not even close. Such a much better experience with her. Would be nice to see the whole band once. I guess I can't complain since it was a free show.

The new songs were great, but yes, need some work. The new songs were the highlights for me -- especially My Rights Versus Yours.

Posted by MattZ | July 5, 2007 10:30 AM

Dan supposedly has three songs on the new album and will tour with them in the Fall if I remember correctly. It's rare for him to be there, I think the only tour he did with them so far was right after the release of Twin Cinema.

Posted by bejar fanatic | July 5, 2007 11:22 AM

great show except for the three assholes standing next to me in the very front who were just standing there blankly, frowning... as if there was no concert at all going on in front of them.

um... I really don't understand why people get to shows 5 hours ahead of time, are the first in line, and get spots front and center... and then act miserable during the entire show. i was talking to these idiots before the show started and they said they didn't even like new pornographers. get a clue, people!

Posted by Anonymous | July 5, 2007 11:25 AM

Dan does indeed have three songs on the new album: "Myriad Harbour", "Entering White Cecilia", and "The Spirit Of Giving". All are solid, but "Myriad Harbour" is amazing. Hope he tours with 'em a bit so we can hear that live.

By the way, the first "Challengers" pre-release outtake was supposed to be up on the buyearlygetnow.com site yesterday, but has yet to show up. Bring it on, Matador.
