OF MONTREAL played Pitchfork & some 2007 Tour Dates

Of Montreal @ Pitchfork Fest 2007 (CRED)
Of Montreal @ Pitchfork Music Festival

Of Montreal lived up to their hype and it was probably the most interesting and entertained I’d been all weekend. They started things off with a Darth Vadar-costumed man crossing the stage, and one guitar player with giant pink-feathered wings and 3-D glasses. Huh. Throughout the set various other characters joined the set, including a person dressed completely in black spandex and a gold face. Of Montreal was fun and danceable and I thoroughly enjoyed myself, as did the crowd. I saw one guy jumping about two feet in the air over and over just bopping along to the music. Wonderful. They're also playing San Francisco on November 12, 13, 14 at the Great American Music Hall.

Why Roseland? Why? I heard the bass player quit/was fired, is that true?

Posted by Eduardo | July 17, 2007 10:29 AM

yea...he said it in a pitchfork interview....they are such a good live act. i saw them this year b/c my friends were going and i'd barely heard their music....it was one of the best shows i've ever seen. hissing fauna is one of the albums of the year in my opinion.

i find these guys to be terribly boring live. i've almost fallen asleep everytime i've seen them. and it doesn't help that all the songs sound the same.

They should focus less on the costumes and more on making music that isn't mind-numbingly irritating.

why do people need to comment about bands they don't like? just ignore the article and go on to something else if you don't like it.

but seriously... why Roseland? ugh.

11:25, it's called criticism. It's part of how people evaluate art.

Posted by Anonymous | July 17, 2007 11:45 AM

It's not criticism if the article simply reports tour dates. It's called being a douchebag.

i'm assuming that's sarcasm at it's best.. lmao - kudos.

Why is this guy dressed like Jimmy from the frogs?

Posted by Jimmy | July 17, 2007 5:09 PM

'Why Roseland' is probably because they sold out two shows in a row at Irving in March. But, yeah, ugh. The Irving shows were excellent, but Roseland sounds like crap and security can be goons.

But I'll be there just the same. Hissing Fauna is such an excellent album, and the live shows are generally neat in part because of Kevin's schtick and the Bowie covers.

at least tickets are cheap (for roseland)

Does anybody know why the bass player quit/got fired? It's hard to tell from the photos of the PMF show this past weekend, but the guy holding the bass looks like the same guy who was playing bass at the San Francisco shows earlier this year.

The amazing thing about their set at Pitchfork is that they had different vignettes for each song. I listed about half of them in my review and decided I was going on too long about it. It's impressive that they put that much effort into it.

My review of Sunday's festivities can be found here:

someone already beat me, but yeah, that guy ripped that whole wing thing off from the frogs...

Posted by mr. man | July 17, 2007 8:52 PM

as if the frogs were the first ever to wear wings..

Posted by matt | July 18, 2007 3:47 PM

that wing thing is awesome....i think sufjan does it also.

I thought of Montreal was amazing at Pitchfork. It was indeed the best show I've ever seen.
