Tegan & Sara's "fifth studio full-length, The Con, in stores July 24th through Vapor/Sire Records"
Written by Tegan and Sara, The Con was co-produced by Chris Walla (Death Cab for Cutie/The Decemberists) and recorded in his Portland, OR studio this past winter. The follow-up to 2004’s So Jealous, which sold over 150,000 copies in the U.S. alone, has already received a tremendous response from fans and critics alike. Tegan and Sara will take a break during their tour to perform the first single “Back In Your Head” on Late Night with Conan O’Brien on July 31st.Previously

I don't get it...I mean...I can see why people like them...but, I don't get it. How'd they sell out all those shows so quickly?
Posted by Mike | July 11, 2007 11:30 AM
yeah, im just as confused. who is listening to them?
i mean, i dont know anyone who really dislikes them, but i dont know a single person would call themselves a big T&S fan
Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 11:39 AM
lesbians buy tickets
Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 11:42 AM
Count me as someone who dislikes them - strongly. Their voices just grate at me.
That said, gotta hand it to them for hard work. Look at that freaking tour schedule. That's just absurd.

I'm a straight guy, and I like them. I got tickets to see them at Hiro, and am going to see them again at Webster in November. Who doesn't want to see a crowd full of lesbians while listening to polite Canadian indie rock?

I considered myself an OK fan, but their new album is a BIG leap forward for them. I liked the last one ok, but this is one of my top 2 or 3 albums of the year. No joke.
They're also cute and engaging live. It's usually a fun show.

So Jeff, its up there with LCD Soundsystem and Panda Bear, right?
Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 12:46 PM
I saw them a couple of summers ago at Summerstage for free and it was empty!

"So Jeff, its up there with LCD Soundsystem and Panda Bear, right?"
Jeff... you must have my taste in music, period... i will accept nothing less.

I am a straight male, and I love them. As do a number of my straight, male friends. Their new album is definitely a big step forward, as was said above, but it's not fair to compare them to the most critically acclaimed individual artists right now (LCD Soundsystem & Panda Bear). It's just catchy, enjoyable stuff.
I just got a floor ticket for the London, ON show. Can't wait.

It is called Grey's Anatomy. The were feature several times on that show and its soundtrack. Because of this, they have a much larger audience or at least name recognition. I assume this why they have sold out a ton of these shows. That being said, I saw them a couple of years back and it was a very enjoyable show, nothing flashy, but they were very entertaining and engaging with audience, like what was said previously.

I think their new album is sick. I huge leap forward. Previous albums were not mind-blowing, but I always came back to them while walking around the city or sitting at home and writing. The new album, however, is extremely enjoyable. Plus, the live show is extremely engaging. BUT, I must agree that they have an inordinate amount of gay fans, and apparently gay fans are pretty loyal (although I have no support for that other than anecdotal proof).

Hey Greg, know how I know you're gay?

Just another reason to listen to classical music instead...

i'm glad this band isn't so fucking overhyped as most of the shit in the blogs.
that way when i go to their show, i know everyone wants to be there, instead of being there to be seen and talk through the whole fucking thing.
go listen to band of horses, you fucking lemmings.

these guys are on the NYCtv, playing summerstage last year, 24/7.
they are so fucking dull it hurts my head to watch.
my god, what is you people find in these bland indie poppers? I don't get it, such overtravelled territory. not even catchy songs 90% of the time.
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2007 1:49 AM
are you sure all you haters at the NYCSummerstage weren't accidently standing outside by the portapottys? cuz the rest of us at the show had a blast. tegan & sara rock. i find it sad you people are so jealous of their obvious talent. don't forget the con... i can't wait!

Wow if you some of you people dont like Tegan and Sara why even bother looking at this ?! Tegan and Sara are amazing musicians and songwriters! They do so much and keep making each album better and better they Rock! )

"I saw them a couple of summers ago at Summerstage for free and it was empty!"
You realize this show was during the 2005 pride parade, right? I hauled ass from the parade to get there, but now you know where there fan base was. Also, they definitely have expanded their audience after being on Grey's Anatomy.

Northern State is going on that tour w them.

they put on a great show and are damn charming. their show tonight at southpaw was fantastic. i've been a big fan for a few years and it was great to hear the whole new album live and then a good amount of old songs at the end. the one thing that i don't get is, why do people have to say, "they are engaging, BUT I must agree that they have an inordinate amount of gay fans."
is that a negative? who the eff cares.
Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2007 1:04 AM
Who sees them? Teen girls, a majority of which are gay/bi/queer . There is something about that demographic that is especially rabid, or 'dedicated'. Tegan and Sara are out lesbians and sing lovesongs, that is young-lesbian crack cocaine.
Though new album is actually good for a guilty pleasure of formulaic indie-pop, I would still sum up their previous fan base as the horny, unexposed fans of a 2007 Ani Difranco + Fall Out Boy.
Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2007 11:47 PM
Teen girls? There were hardly any teen girls I saw at the show I went to last week. If anything I would say 21+.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2007 2:29 PM
i'm a strait 17 yr old girl and i absaloutly love them, if that answers any questions. I saw them last night in philly and the crowd definatly was mostly lesbians, but not all

I'm devastated that they came to The Commerce Bank Arts Center Phila, PA and I had no idea. That's maybe a mile from my house! [Obscenities follow].
