The 2007 Siren Festival schedule

Siren Music Festival 2007

I think I've seen the current incarnation of the NY Dolls enough times now, and you might think I would say the same about Voxtrot, but I really don't want to miss them, so I guess my biggest conflict is the slight overlap of Voxtrot & M.I.A. - of course there's always Studio B.....

Siren Scehdule 2007

Chris Battering Room is less conflicted. He says:

Get to see just about everyone I want to see and don't have to hear a note of M.I.A. = Horray!

and once again, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to go to Siren.

I might be getting old, but the biggest draw for me is Gibby Haynes.

Dr. Dog has a sweet new Architecture in Helsinki remix ("Heart it Races") on their myspace page. Shit is money. Would love to see them live.

Posted by Drugs Delaney | July 10, 2007 10:14 AM

id rather just pay 15 to see dr dog in the air conditioned bowery.

Poor Siren Fest, it's like the line-ups get progressively worse with each passing year. I am not looking forward to the 'Hipster Scum' that will undoubtedly be there for M.I.A.

I find that the only reason I attend anymore is for the Festival atmosphere and Public Drinking! ;)

this is undoubtebly the worst lineup ever

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2007 12:16 PM

twilight sad --> dr. dog --> detroit cobras --> lavender diamond --> matt & kim --> m.i.a. (if she shows up) --> 1/2 ny dolls --> 1/2 cursive = horray!

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2007 12:21 PM

who cares about this m.i.a. chick?

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2007 12:36 PM

Nobody cares about this MIA chick.

Siren was cool 6 years ago when it was pretty much the only free outdoor festival or show in NY area but theres so many more outdoor (free & otherwise) things happening in the summer these days..it cant really compete...especially for the schlep out to Coney....

Wanna survive the irony, the crowds, the tramp stamps, the fuzz, and the warm beer? Make it through the day the Mango-Rum Cooley way!

You'll need:

1 large mango Italian ice served in a styrofoam cup (get yer ass off the D or N on the way... Aunt Butchie's on 13th Ave and 69th St. has some of the best I've tried).

1 750 ml bottle of rum. Go ahead, keep it cheap; quality is not the issue here. keep that brown wino bag, I'll explain below.

How to:
Split the It. ice with friend/lover/stranger so you both have equal portions (ask nicely for a second styro cup).
Pour on that rum! Do this while on the train so no police see you pourin up.
Stir stir stir, darlin'.
Enjoy.

Now, depending on how much of a lush you are, you'll have some rum leftover. Keep the bottle wrapped up in the wino bag (better yet, stash it in yer girl's purse!). Later in the day when yer damn near shit-hammered, buy a couple of those huge Nathan's cokes with lotsa ice. You know what to do next to seal the deal...

I perfected this at Jazzfest in N.O. some time ago. Only we brought in those ass-pocket size bottles of rum and got some mango freeze while in the fair grounds. Got all tored up, ya heard me?

"this is undoubtebly the worst lineup ever"

You said it. This is the best NYC can drum up for a festival? Sure there are other free shows during the summer, but this was/is the only real all-day 'indie' festival in the city and even the whole northeast. And that's pathetic.

I love how people complain about lineups every year. "It was so much cooler last year." Wah wah wah. "Remember the first year? It was the coolest then." Bla bla bla. Just go and have fun and be lucky that you don't live in Kansas, or something.

Posted by Phil | July 10, 2007 4:08 PM

even bv's cmj shows had a better lineup that this.

the black lips and the detroit cobras are worth it. too bad they are on at such close times!

Every year the haters bitch and complain and every year I hope that they won't show up and that it won't be so crowded, but they always end up going anyway. Oh well.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2007 5:57 PM

mmmm mango rum!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2007 6:17 PM

all of the siren festivals that i've gone to are cooler than the siren festivals that you've gone to.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2007 6:59 PM

White Heat DJ's?

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2007 7:26 PM

it was all about The Mooney Suzuki filling in the headlining spot when Blonde Redhead had to drop out. They put on one hell of a show. Sure, they suck now, but that day they were awesome.

Pretty sure The Liars played a set before them that day too, which was also good.

There's been nothing too exciting happening since. The last time I went, I spent most of the time on the boardwalk wondering why I'd even bothered.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2007 7:52 PM

it's a shame that this is the last siren festival and THIS is what they got.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2007 8:45 PM

wtf is the great gibby haynes doing at such a shitty place?

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2007 8:48 PM

I have never heard a bitchier group of people. Too cool for everything. Just skip the event then. Do something else with your time. To me, there are a couple good bands playing. Nothing earth shattering, ok, but why you people need to trash everything I'll never understand. I thought I was cynical and opinionated.

It's outdoor music in Coney Island. Take a deep breath and try to enjoy yourself. Half of you whiney bastards will come out anyway, and probably complain the whole time.

Oh, and let's just forget the possibility that one of these bands you already have your mind made up about might surprise you. For music-loving people you are really a grumpy, close minded bunch.

What do you do that's so great? Why should anyone care what you think?

Posted by Anonymous | July 19, 2007 7:24 PM

cursive rox my sox.

Posted by matthew | July 19, 2007 8:32 PM

OK -- though I love the mango rum idea, my question is: where can I get the biggest, cheapest to-go beer on the boardwalk? I know I'm not getting quality stuff here (Bud, Bud Light), but I am on a budget. Thanks for tips!

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2007 12:02 PM

What happened to Gibby Haynes?!?!? He is no longer on the schedule.
