They put on one bad show at Webster Hall. Love the album. They decided to slow the tempo down a notch from the album when the album was already slow enough. Didn't need to hear an acoustic version of Amsterdam. You'd better make sure you bring a date to the show otherwise it will look weird amongst all the cozy Grey's Anatomy couples.

Finally, Atlanta is getting some PB&J love. And NYC, stop corrupting our beloved Deerhunter. You're only making them better.

hey anon, they always play amsterdam slow (or at least sans bass). seen them 3 times and they've always played it like that. don't think bjorn can sing and play bass for it maybe.

Has anyone seen The Clientele live? Are they any good live?

clientele used to be okay live...when it was just a 3 piece. then alastair added that chick...ok, she's cute but holy shit, the band sucks these days.

i can barely find a good song on the new album...and i LOVED suburban light and violet hour.

Bring a pillow to The Clientele. They will put you to sleep.

I like Clientele's new album. Their show nowadays is good but sleepy if you don't know their material. PB&J at Maxwell's should be fun.

That stoppeterbjornandjohn blog is nothing more than clever advertising for the band. Its amazing how many posters on that blog don't get it and think the blogger actually doesn't like pb&j.

I thought PB&J were better live than on CD. It certainly was different: they had the girl from Au Revoir Simone sing "Young Folks", "Start to Melt" was slower, and "Amsterdam" was different, a couple songs had totally different drum beats, etc.

As far as the Clientele goes, they will probably not go over well in a room full of people more concerned with talking than checking out a new band (read: NYC). Their set is very quiet and crowd banter always seems to drown it out. I have seen them three times and it has happened two of the three times.

They are definitely a band that needs to play in a small, intimate setting. I think the new album is great and while the new girl might not add alot to the band, she certainly does not take anything away (and is quite nice to look at).

And it definitely helps to know the Clientele's material. Their set these days focuses mainly on the last two records (God Save and Strange Geo). Should be an awesome tour!!!

Why did the Clientele add the girl??

i think alaister is banging her...seriously. i saw them at maxwells and at knitting the last two times and he seemed like there's some tension in the band.

i think she's terrible personally. i also think their 'new direction' is awful. i wish he was depressed again. strange geometry was good but i cant get into the new one.

I saw Clientele @ The Knitting Factory a few years back. I thought they were one of the lamest bands I had ever seen. The singer just seemed like some mopey whimp. People were laughing in the restroom over how bad a guitar player he was. PB&J @ Roseland? There seems to be a trend lately with bands playing much larger venues than they should be playing. If you can't sell it out, don't play there. You are probably not ready yet.

I haven't seen PB&J, so I can't speak for that, but I saw the Clientele a couple months ago and it was really really wonderful, especially if you're a fan of theirs and even more especially if you dig their new material, which there really is no reason you shouldn't if you liked their last stuff. And "people laughing over how bad a guitar player Alasdair is".... Are you kidding me? Indie music has by far the most consistently enjoyable and innovative bands, but by far the worst fans. God I hate most of the people who go to these shows. If you're just going to go and complain about everything, please, keep it to yourself and/or shut the fuck up.

God forbid people would post their own opinions good or bad on a blog where opinions are welcomed. You fucking dolt.

Got my tix for Maxwell's. There's a 2 ticket limit and you can't buy another pair on the same ticketweb account.

Posted by Eric | July 27, 2007 12:04 PM

PB&J still haven't even sold out Maxwell's yet. A fraction of the size Roseland is. That should tell you what a misbooking Roseland was.

What's with these 'anonymous' comments, too scared to put your name on statements you make?

Why's this 'chick' getting so much shit? You obviously didn't have the pleasure of them playing recently in New Zealand. She added so much live and also played with Robert Scott of The Clean. Apparently she had only heard the songs once and improvised beautifully.

I think you should go and check them out again and stop being a typical male banging on about how crap she is bla bla but looks okay.

Men.

As if by signing your comment with 'Trenna' you are doing much to identify yourself! Furthermore, without some way to verify identities, readers cannot have much confidence that commenters are actually who they claim to be.

And if Prince Charles says it, I believes it.

does anybody know if the times on the maxwells site are the times for doors? or the time when the first band plays?

Posted by Anonymous | September 4, 2007 3:07 PM

there are a lot of people who think The Clientele are a great band, that's a fact. I know a bunch of people in Minneapolis who are going to see them, and not P,B&J.

If you don't like them (i.e. they're just not your cup of tea), then fine. But unqualified statements such as (and this killed me) 'Alasdair is a crap guitar player' and 'the girl is awful' tells me that you know nothing about guitar playing, or anything about the violin, or anything about The Clientele's angle. They are a band that will divide opinion, fair enough - but there are so much stupidity and banal statement on here I can't get my head around it.

I'm not even going to try.

It just floors me. How come people are willing to expose their stupidity so publicly? I guess the web gives you the anomnity and thus the licence to post such utter crap.
