The Field - 2007 Tour Dates (TONIGHT)

The FieldI don't know why this is happening on a Wednesday, and I meant to post these dates a while ago, but anyway Brooklyn Lager fan The Field is bringing the minimal techno from Germany to Brooklyn tonight. If you haven't heard it yet, check out The Field's latest album From Here We Go Sublime. Under the right circumstances, It'll bring you to another dimension, but don't take my word for it - according to Metacritic's rating system, it is the best album so far in 2007.

Ticket's for tonight's Studio B show are $12.00 at the 10pm doors, and things keep going until 4am. The Field also just played Pitchfork Fest.

Before hitting up a pre-party for the Deerhunter/Dan Deacon warehouse afterparty, I found myself front and center at the Pitchfork Festival for THE FIELD’s (aka Axel Willner) set. Musically, Willner’s set was the highlight of the festival for me, who delivered with layers minimal techno beats topped of with a bit of shoegaze atmospherics, letting loops dangle, extracting them to infinity, and further reinforcing why From Here We Go Sublime is the album of the year. What time does The Field play?

Posted by Eduardo | July 18, 2007 5:12 PM

I called Studio B and they say he is gonna play around 11:30 or midnight.

I think that "From Here We Go Sublime" is a beautifully crafted album worth of many listens. However, I also think that it is being rated as the electronic album of the year, due to an unfortunate lack of competition.

Does anyone have any suggestions what 2007 release may compete with the Field for electronic album of the year? I suggest one...Amon Tobin's "Foley Room".

PERSON PITCH...totally!

haven't heard anything that could compete with this so far. plus this album will still be worth a spin when you're back in diapers

Pantha du Prince: This Bliss
Lindstrom & Prins Thomas: Reinterpretations

to name but two.

I'm going to catch Mr Willner in San Francisco this weekend ... the album is mesmerizing, thrilling ... can't wait to see him live ... but I couldn't find the mention of Brooklyn Lager in the link ... I prefer the IPA myself

just got home from studio b...the field didn't really blow me away...i preferred kate simko...hot!

I had huge expectations for the field but it was
bullshit, uninspired and extremely short, he didn't go on till like 1AM and was off by 2:10

Studio B's sound system is the absolute pits, my left ear is ringing and it litterally sounded worse than my laptop...

hey quick disclaimer: the studio b system was not operating properly last night. there were serious technical shutdowns early in the night, and a quick fix had to be made. the sound was working fine for the field - however the speaker configuration being used was for bands, and thusly everyone was facing the wrong direction. hence the 'whoah one side is way louder than the other wtf!!'

not a regular occurance! studio b system is really great.

Yeah, it wasn't as great as I thought it was going to be. I hope next time things work out better and he plays longer. It was nice to hear the Annie and Gui Boratto remix tho.

I think Gui Boratto's live at Cielo was better than The Field's live at Studio B. I also think Gui Boratto's album is excellent.

Gossip: The Field didn't have Brooklyn lager during the night. He must have changed (back?) to Stella.

Saw him tonight at a tiny lounge in SF and he was awesome. Kinda sad to see the (good) local DJs who opened for him looking on during his set, I was thinking they were thinking they would never ever be this hot. He was drinking Sierra Nevada, but the bar ran out, and his last beer during the set was a Heineken. After his first taste he made a face. It was really a thrill to be right next to this guy.

A differing opinion on the sf set - it was uninspired and all over the place. Too many jarring transitions and not much fun because unlike the album, no groove was sustained long enough to be interesting. Most of the art school crowd was lapping it up though. The field will not be known for his live shows if they are all like last night.

all this talk of the man's love of the drink...perhaps he just gets too drunk to perform? i saw him outside after studio b and he looked pretty wonked
