Best band ever!

I spotted Jason from ...Trail of Dead. Anyone else I should have recognized?

Posted by D.D.D.Dave | July 5, 2007 3:22 PM

is this like the new porno show? they going to make us get tickets for a free concert? i'm really paranoid about this bullshit now

Posted by jackon | July 5, 2007 3:46 PM

do you need to have tickets to get into the free show? or is it just an open area

Posted by MBF | July 5, 2007 3:46 PM

I emailed river2river and, surprisingly, this one appears to not require tickets -
finally a show that's really free

Posted by Anonymous | July 5, 2007 4:10 PM

Rockafeller Park is somewhat big. It should easily hold everyone.

Posted by Anonymous | July 5, 2007 4:20 PM

From rivertorivernyc.com:
"Located at the north end of Battery Park City, at the corners of River Terrace and Warren Streets, Rockefeller Park features a playground, gardens and a wide grassy lawn with beautiful views of the Hudson River. The River to River Festival at Rockefeller Park/BPC concerts take place Wednesday evenings in June and July. There's plenty of room to stand, set up a lawn chair, or spread out a blanket. All events in Rockefeller Park are free."
See you there.

what a fucking rocking video

Posted by Anonymous | July 5, 2007 6:51 PM

saw an ad in village voice today....spoon is playing at virgin megastore on tues july 10th at 630pm....free show/signingggg

be there
!

Posted by ga ga ga! | July 5, 2007 7:37 PM

i sure hope that's true ga ga ga!

Posted by sarah | July 5, 2007 8:59 PM

Definitely is true, i saw that ad too

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2007 7:28 AM

But you have to buy the album first to get a pass. Those passes are all gone now.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2007 8:48 AM

Is it true you need a pass?

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2007 3:38 PM

how can you already have bought the album if it's not already out yet? So how can the passes be gone already?? just sayin'

Posted by sarah | July 7, 2007 12:12 AM

The ad says you must purchase the album at Union Square to get a pass. Some of the time (Virgin especially) they sell presale passes that entitles you to a CD and show on the day of release. Since the show is on the same day of the release, they most likely were selling presale passes.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2007 2:26 AM

It says the Battery Park show begins at 7pm. Does this mean that the gates open at 7 or does the music start by then? Is there another band opening for Spoon?

In short, if I get there at 7:45, will I miss any of Spoon's music? Thank you all for the information.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2007 10:49 AM

Some band called Coin Under Tongue is opening.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2007 12:02 PM

opener confirmed:
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=47046603

and spoon's myspace page says they go on at 8, which makes sense for a 7 show w/ one opener.

godspeed.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2007 10:49 AM

I e'ed River to River and they said no opener, Spoon at 7. So many mixed messages. What to do, what to do.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2007 10:09 PM

More concerned about the major thunderstorms they are predicting during those hours. Hopefully, they are wrong.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2007 10:47 PM

My friend's band is DEFINITELY opening, Britt picked them out, I've seen the schedule, so show up early if you really wanna see some smoke on the water.

Posted by Mike D. | July 11, 2007 11:13 AM

is the show rain or shine? or is there an indoor venue for when it thunderstorms?

Posted by kimani | July 11, 2007 12:09 PM

SMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKE on the WAAAAAATER

dun dun duuuuuuun
dun dun daduuuuun

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 12:18 PM

Spoon and Radiohead were drinking at HIFI yesterday.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 12:19 PM

I read that Stuyvesant High School Auditorium on Chambers and West Streets was the indoor alternative, if it indeed rains.

Hoping for an update before show time though.

Any way to look into this BV?

Posted by FF | July 11, 2007 12:20 PM

It's probably going to get rained out, so start your reverse rain dances NOW! We've been asked to play earlier at exactly 6:30 so that Spoon can get their set in before the downpour. So if you want to come and yell, "You suck! Where's Spoon!?" you'll have to get there at 6:30PM, ya hear? Please spread the word.

The production girl I spoke to said if it rains, it's over. Spoon's manager seems to think it won't start raining until later. Doppler says fuck it. The plot thickens.

Posted by Coin Under Tongue | July 11, 2007 1:10 PM

I'm being told the show is rain or shine

Posted by brooklynvegan | July 11, 2007 1:56 PM

I just had lunch with Spoon. Well, kinda. I ate chinese food on the lawn while they soundchecked.

Spoke to the soundguy, and he said they will go on rain or shine, but is not sure if the band will since they are exposed to the elements. Even the drum riser is not covered by that little roof.

The took away the seats that were there for the Booker T. and the MGs show.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 2:00 PM

No tickets necessary folks. Come on in, the waters fine!!

Posted by Hunta | July 11, 2007 4:13 PM

Radiohead really was at HiFi weren't they?

I walked by, saw somebody who looked just like the bassist out on the sidewalk, and dismissed it.

Huh. How about that?

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 4:19 PM

not looking good for the home team. damn you, mommie nature.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 4:37 PM

just got this:

**The set time for tonight's River to River show at Battery Park
(NYC) has been changed due to weather**

NEW SET TIMES:
6:15 Coin Under Tongue
7:00 SPOON
(this is real time, so please come early!)

Posted by brooklynvegan | July 11, 2007 4:49 PM

Still doesn't look good. Now they're saying heavy thunderstorms well by 645pm 7pm. Just in time for Spoon to start.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 5:23 PM

I see a lot of umbrellas out my window. Crud.

Posted by Steve | July 11, 2007 5:28 PM

damn it's raining...why does it always rain on the days that i get my hair done AND plan on seeing live music?

Posted by jamie | July 11, 2007 5:29 PM

damn it's raining...why does it always rain on the days that i get my hair done AND plan on seeing live music?

Posted by jamie | July 11, 2007 5:30 PM

i'm a block away and it's not looking very nice.
oh, and there's a big thunder roll...

Posted by lauren | July 11, 2007 5:32 PM

damn, just heard some loud thunder....

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 5:33 PM

And here I was looking forward to an after-show dinner at the Pakistani Tea House.

Posted by anonymous | July 11, 2007 5:33 PM

yeah, i'm a few blocks north, it's raining an lightning outside, not good

Posted by sam | July 11, 2007 5:35 PM

All last summer, it seemed to rain every Wednesday night, so I saw Daniel Lanois and a few other acts in the Stuyvesant auditorium, which was better than outside - here's hoping they move Spoon and Coin inside, cause I just heard a BIG rumble near 34th st...

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 5:35 PM

Can anyone else confirm the possibility of the show getting moved indoors? Seems like that would be the only choice at this point.

Posted by Adam | July 11, 2007 5:36 PM

Pakistani Tea House......good stuff.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 5:38 PM

Anon @ 5:33pm: Yep, that was pretty much my reaction when I first heard Some Loud Thunder. Damn. Not very good.

Posted by Steve | July 11, 2007 5:38 PM

"And here I was looking forward to an after-show dinner at the Pakistani Tea House."

PTH is pretty good.

I am the person that was at the soundcheck. It seemed clear that there will be no show if it rained hard.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 5:38 PM

Shit, it looks nasty out there. I can't believe the shows goes on in a thunderstorm, right?

Posted by MattZ | July 11, 2007 5:40 PM

Last nights show was awesome. they were really nice guys. i met michael cera after the show he was at virgin (also a very nice guy). any one have a setlist?

Posted by Jonathan | July 11, 2007 5:41 PM

Posted by jamie | July 11, 2007 5:42 PM

balti gosh, yum

Posted by jamie | July 11, 2007 5:42 PM

Give me Mia Sara over Michael Cera any day.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 5:44 PM

some loud thunder is still the record of the year....nothing has come close to touching it's perfection.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 5:44 PM

It would be nice if R2R updated their website to tell us the deal here.

Posted by MattZ | July 11, 2007 5:47 PM

With this weather, you'd think that Ted Leo was scheduled to play.

Posted by Jack | July 11, 2007 5:49 PM

tunder mommy, i just heard tunder

Posted by jamie | July 11, 2007 5:50 PM

so what's the visuals now?

stage float away?

Posted by mark | July 11, 2007 5:57 PM

Is anyone still heading down?

Posted by weathersucksmyass | July 11, 2007 5:58 PM

I'll be there if I make it in one piece.

Posted by wickedwitchofthewest | July 11, 2007 6:01 PM

i cannot imagine this will go on....it's so scary out here

Posted by lauren | July 11, 2007 6:02 PM

i'm already down here, so come 6:45 or so we'll see how things are going

Posted by sam | July 11, 2007 6:02 PM

what to do, what to do... ive been so looking forward to this show all summer. damn thunderstorms.

Posted by knarf | July 11, 2007 6:05 PM

reschedule it for tomorrow already!

Posted by knarf | July 11, 2007 6:08 PM

Ugh. I did not want to have to buy tickets to see them again for Roseland.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 6:10 PM

Ugh. I did not want to have to buy tickets to see them again for Roseland.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 6:10 PM

some loud thunder as album of the year? if you mean forgetable album of the year i'll agree

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 6:10 PM

I don't even think tomm is a possability. They have to be in california on the 14th. Don't know what their travel schedule is like.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 6:12 PM

any updates from anyone down there as to whether the opener has started or look like they will?

Posted by me | July 11, 2007 6:13 PM

didnt realize they had something on the 14th in Cali... just looked at the schedule above and saw the next date on there was the 28th...

Posted by knarf | July 11, 2007 6:16 PM

show has not yet been canceled - staff said they will announce at 6:45 if it is gonna happen

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 6:17 PM

They're now saying it may let up a bit around 8pm.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 6:19 PM

definitely want to head over around 7pm, so keep us posted if you can.

Posted by stel | July 11, 2007 6:21 PM

Well, I may be delusional, but from my cube on the 21st floor at 45th street it looks like the sky is (fairly) clear when I look south. It is still raining though.

Posted by MattZ | July 11, 2007 6:22 PM

There is deffinitely a big break an hour from now on the radar but another green blob a couple miles behind the break.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 6:25 PM

if Team Crackberry gets this 6:45 update posted here, y'all done gone be my heroes.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 6:32 PM

What's the crowd size like over there?

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 6:34 PM

Is it happening? HELP!

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 6:37 PM

I am trying to figure out the good info from the bad info. BV posted at 4:49pm that the start times were moved up. Does this mean that was wrong?

Posted by MattZ | July 11, 2007 6:38 PM

no rain in midtown.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 6:41 PM

Any updates?

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 6:44 PM

The way these things work, if I decide to go, it will be cancelled. If I decide to bail, it will not be canceled. So, instead of everyone worrying about the weather or R2R updates, I will just decide in the next few minutes if I am going to chance it, and I will let everyone here know my decision. Fail-safe solution.

Posted by MattZ | July 11, 2007 6:46 PM

80% chance of rain between 8 and 9:30pm--but clear for now, all.

Posted by stel | July 11, 2007 6:47 PM

Sounds good. Regardless, even if we get the post that its still a go, we probably won't have time to make it.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 6:48 PM

What happened to that 645 confirmation on whether it would happen or not?

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 6:51 PM

cancelled

Posted by j | July 11, 2007 6:52 PM

cancelled

Posted by j | July 11, 2007 6:52 PM

is that canceled for real

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 6:54 PM

is that canceled for real

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 6:54 PM

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 6:57 PM

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 6:57 PM

rescheduled?

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 6:58 PM

any updates? truth to the 8pm rumor?

Posted by spoon fan | July 11, 2007 7:01 PM

What 8pm rumor? Not on this blog.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 7:03 PM

I am cracking up imagining us sitting here refreshing BV.com and debating the merits of various cancelled rumors vs. 8pm rumors. Meanwhile, the show was scheduled for 7pm and Spoon is probably on right now.

Posted by MattZ | July 11, 2007 7:09 PM

Raining cats and dogs.....again.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 7:11 PM

Well I wouldn't expect the people who trekked all the way down there in the rain to be pretty talkative right now if its cancelled. Would you?

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 7:14 PM

And I wouldn't expect them to be on the internet at all. I mean unless people bring laptops to shows now

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 7:29 PM

any updates? it stopped raining.... i got a feeling it's on

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 7:34 PM

Show is definitely on. Get down there!

Posted by c | July 11, 2007 7:45 PM

They're playing right now

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 8:09 PM

Well they have these new things called "blackberrys" that allow you to use the internet, post, and emai from wherever you happen to be.

I just wish people on BV wouldn't put up false posts on whether the show is cancelled or not.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 8:27 PM

Hey guys... I'm up in Yonkers right now. If I jump in the car, will I still make Spoon's set?

Posted by Ed | July 11, 2007 9:06 PM

SERIOUSLY, GUYS, I'M READY TO GET IN THE CAR AND COME IN. Just let me know if this show is still happening tonight!! Thanks, Ed

Posted by Ed | July 11, 2007 9:44 PM

they played but it got cut short, which is frustrating because the setup was sluggish. they booted the opener to get to spoon given the forecast, but then they schlepped around and took forever to get their $hit together. i arrived at 715 and they were already setting spoon up but they didn't go on until 8:10. honestly, let's see some hustle, tech folk. they played 45mins or so.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 9:48 PM

Shows On! Spoon goes on at 10!

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2007 9:49 PM

Spoon played from 8:15 to 9. Mostly Ga x5 stuff. Decent show, no opener. Sadly very short.

Posted by Dustin | July 11, 2007 10:00 PM

they have even newer things called iPhones. Skipped the show to catch dinner with friends. Glad I got to see them at Bowery last month. Theyshould have played Roseland, guareented fans a real show and made more money to boot.
- sent from my iPhone.

Posted by Josef | July 11, 2007 10:24 PM

Crap. Didn't make the show. But I'm DEFINITELY catching the show at Virgin Records tomorrow!

Posted by Ed | July 11, 2007 10:59 PM

It indeed went on - I think they were forced to end at 9pm (some guy talked to Britt onstage just beforehand). Clear sounding guitars, not much bass, great You got Yr Cherry Bomb, no Don't You Evah, big crowd, would've likely been many more if weather had been on the game.

Posted by Dfactor | July 11, 2007 11:27 PM

Not much bass? Are you serious? The bass was very present! A P-bass with flats played with a pick. Great tone. This bassist is much better than the original one.

I wish Britt would lay off the reverb. It's just too much at times.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2007 12:21 AM

hello ed, unless i'm mistaken, spoon played virgin / union square tuesday. i don't think there's another instore in NY tomorrow.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2007 12:28 AM

yeah, seeing spoon in virgin was the way to go... on tuesday, inside, with good sound, small crowd, free (wristband wasn't necessary). Was glad BV didn't remind anybody.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2007 12:37 AM

I'm also glad BV is a great source of misinformation when it comes to the veracity of its posters. Spoon show cancelled? WTF?!

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2007 6:15 AM

Anon @ 12:12am:

I'm pretty sure you're wrong, dude. Anyway, I'm not taking any chances. I'll be at the Times Square Virgin at 8pm on the dot.
