VIDEOS: Rilo Kiley - 'The Moneymaker' (short & long)

Rilo Kiley

Huh, Who, What?...

short version

Here's the R-rated long version.

Indie formation Rilo Kiley has announced the track listing for their forthcoming album, Under the Blacklight, which has a street date of Aug. 21, 2007.

Under the Blacklight is the American rock group's fourth full-length record and was produced by Mike Elizondo and Jason Leder. It is comprised of eleven songs and will be released on Warner Brothers this summer.

The last Rilo Kiley album was called More Adventurous, and was the first album featuring all members of the group since 2004. The last three years had been dedicated to the individual projects of Rilo Kiley singer Jenny Lewis, who released her debut Rabbit Fur Coat last year and guitarist Blake Sennett's collaborations with The Elected called Sun, Sun, Sun (2006) and Me First (2004).

According to Pitchfork, the track listing for Under the Blacklight is:

1) "Silver Lining"
2) "Close Call"
3) "The Moneymaker"
4) "Breakin' Up"
5) "Under the Blacklight"
6) "Dreamworld"
7) "Dejalo"
8) "15"
9) "Smoke Detector"
10) "The Angels Hung Around"
11) "Give a Little Love" [Soulshine]

This song needs more than just that single riff. Sexy as it is, it kind of loses steam after being repeated through every single verse and chorus. Much like Lenny Kravitz's "Fly Away", actually :-/

song is not serious.
i hope this doesn't get taken seriously.
rest of the album will be completely different.

How do you know? I really hope you're right though. Rilo Kiley can do better!

we'll be hearing songs off this album on a "Now Thats What I Call Music" compilation 5 years from now. jennifer garner will list it on her next Apple Celebrity Playlist (check that shit out).

Do you really like this song? It's definitely not my favorite Rilo Kiley track. I know they can do better.

Since when is crap like this considered an "American rock band"? My three year old has a better sense of rocking out than this lite-pop fake-soul garbage.

Love them. Really don't care for this. They're certainly allowed a mulligan though after three great albums in a row.

i wasn't sure of the original video or song until watching the extended version... aw, that is where the cynicism is. i kinda hate to say it, but i think i like their new sound. whatever, anything will be better than their last album.

idk about this.
i like when bands change their sound
but this is the most pop ive ever imagined rilo kiley could ever be.
i'm really hoping the rest of the album is better.
how could she go from "rabbit fur coat" to this?
i'm sorry but this song totally threw me off.

"how could she go from 'rabbit fur coat' to this?"

As someone posted in the comments over on Stereogum -- http://www.stereogum.com/archives/have-you-seen-the-new-jenny-lewis-porno.html -- she could be saving her good songs for her next solo album.

Seriously, though, do we know for a fact that she wrote or co-wrote this song?
