like anyone actually likes the new album?

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2007 1:03 PM

their album is just bland and monotonous.

you have to like yourself to like this band.

The vast majority of "indie" music is bland, monotonous and derivative.

I've yet to run into an artist, with the exceptions of the class of '04 big Indie bands, that wasn't overblown and acclaimed by every blog or magazine that wasn't complete useless fluff.

Or rather, ditch the clean tones and disco drums and if you're going to write boring songs with staid chord changes, at least write great melodies. Christ.

On Voxtrot: Fucking awful. They opened for TV on the Radio at Prospect and thankfully the crowd seemed to disagree with the undeserved hype and BV coverage.

i saw that TV on the Radio/Voxtrot show also. What happened to music??? TV on the Radio is just empty music, no emotion, nothing driving you inside. I was disappointed all around.

No offense, but I'd have to say you couldn't be any more incorrect about TV on the Radio. I understand that personally you got nothing from TV on the Radio, however they're on the shortlist of legitimately good (bordering on amazing) "indie" bands around.

That TVOTR show @ Prospect last year was magical. It was a set of unreleased (however leaked) songs and yet the crowd couldn't have been more into it.
Voxtrot, however, was still working out the kinks but I think they have improved tremendously since.

i love voxtrot, and it hurts me to say this, but they are horrible live. seriously bad. none of the low-fi closeness that made their ep so amazing - the lead singer tries to overperform instead of just showcasing his voice.

Posted by lo | July 13, 2007 6:05 PM

lo, I think that's because when it comes down to it he doesn't have a very good voice. He sounded best on the first two EPs when he was basicially whispering or trying to cop a british accent.

Also, Chris, if you feel that indie bands are so bland, you shouldn't waste your time on this site. I sort of agree with you about Voxtrot being derivative, but to make that claim about the whole of indie rock seems a little silly to me. There's just too much variety to make any blanket statement about style or musicianship valid. Clean tones and disco beats? Wake up: 2005 is over!

I've seen Voxtrot live about 4 times in the past year. I really dig the new album. It took me awhile, but I'm glad I took a second listen to it.

i personally love his voice

but they just aren't good live. the new album has a few gems on it though.
