you interviewed LES SAVY FAV (part 3)
part 0, part 1, part 2, part 3....

Mike asked:
What effect, if any, has moving to North Carolina affected the new album? Do people put too much emphasis on things like location in attempting to understand music?
Tim Les Savy Fav answered:
Actually, only Harrison our drummer moved to NC but, honestly I do think that now his drumming sounds more Evangelical Christian and racist. And Scottish. And hillbilly. And other stuff that will make him and other citizens of what is in fact an excellent state mad at me for answering this question in such an insulting way...maybe they'll be so mad they will try to break from the Union
continued below...
Nick asked:
Being that this is a green festival, and I have found that it is very difficult to get my roomate to recycle, I was wondering if you are the good roomate or the bad one? Why?
Tim Les Savy Fav answered:
I am an excellent room mate but a terrible house mate. In a shared room I treat my mates to regular massages, I make up and tell months long serialized bed time stories, I'll take either bunk, If my mom sends cookies I share them evenly with my room mates but outside of the room all bets are off. Among my house mates these questions are often asked: Who ate my left over Chinese food? Who said they'd pay the phone bill? Who left jis-am(like Shazam) on the shower head? Who was playing Randy Newman records super loud at 4AM? the answer to all of these (if I'm your house mate) is - ME!
Matt asked:
how do you guys feel about fans recording your shows with microphones? (without the intent to sell them for profit of course), and if you know someone is recording does that make you want to play a good show or mix up the set list or does it not matter one bit?
Tim Les Savy Fav answered:
Recording a show has basically no bearing on our performance. Actually, that might not be true. As I think about it- if I was sure that there were NO taping devices, cameras, or other forms of recording I would probably want to do the best show ever- something super one time only. In my experience I've found that taping or photographing opens me up to the risk of thinking about the document more then the subject of the documentation. There is an automatic layer of removal when you're recording that impedes total involvement/participation. You archive, the rest of us will do things worth archiving.
Ian asked:
Why isn't my song on the new album (you know, the one I did vocals for?). I rehearsed for minutes!
Tim Les Savy Fav answered:
Well, your contribution probably is on the record- the names of the audio clips were not the names of the songs but more references to the lyrics in the chunk we wanted you to sing on.
"Nineteen Ninety Nine" is from the song- "The Year Before the year 2000"
"The World" is from the song "What Would Wolves Do?"
"Resent the Rent" is from "Scotchgard the Credit Card"
-If you are reading and wondering, "what is this guy talking about?" - On lessavyfav.com we posted 3 clips from 3 of our new songs with sing along parts and a special phone number to call and sing on. We took the submissions and put them into the record. The mixing is done but the website hasn't been updated so if you want to pretend your going to be on the record check it out!
Jay asked:
Who would win a fight - Beth Ditto or Tim Harrington? What about in a battle between Rob Crow's beard and Tim Harrington's beard? And finally, I'm sure by now you heard about infamous Man Man fan Darren Mabee. Can Tim take him? Does Tim want to take him?
Tim Les Savy Fav answered:
In a fist fight I am confident that I would loose to all takers. I am a gentle creature, inclined to turn the other cheek. Give me 10 or so years though and I can wear almost anyone down to an unhappy nub, be they huge super busy super famous super(in England I hear)stars like B-Ditty, beards, or even trailblazing fashion czars like Mabee. I've even succeeded in defeating myself, it took the better part of my life but now that it's complete I'll not sass back again.
----
That's it! Thanks everyone for asking, and thanks Les Savy Fav for answering. Read parts one and two too.
