Beastie Boys @ Central Park Summerstage - pics

Beastie Boys @ Central Park Summerstage

Jefferson stopped by Central Park Summerstage last night (aug 8, 2007) to check out the first of three Beastie Boys shows happening in NYC this week. He took these pics, and also had this to say...

The BBoys rocked hard, and rapped so well - mixing their early punk tracks and instrumental grooves with a stellar list of some of rap's classics. MixMaster Mike reminded me of why he's the greatest turntabalist, and the crowd gave an equally insane performance. The stage and audience had more energy than ConEd, and the only rain seemed to be the sweat flying off bodies surfing the crowd. But most remarkable of all was certainly the band's fresh attire. Real nice.

Anybody know what time the set will start tonight?

Posted by jt | August 9, 2007 8:50 AM

the show last night was good (from the outside). it was entertaining watching everyone inhaling [something] from balloons. i even saw a guy completely bite it into a tree. as for the actual show, it sounded like a BB show.

Posted by ko | August 9, 2007 9:11 AM

oh yeah what the heck is it with central park shows and those balloons? i saw the same thing after the bob weir concert.

Setlist?

Doors open at 5:30 tonight - anyone know what time they took the stage last night?

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2007 10:29 AM

seriously...you don't know what nitrous is?

i really enjoyed the show (from the outside) it was really cool how they mixed it up instrumentals into hip hip into punk...they have done that over the years but not so seamlessly. the last tour there was a 5 (or so) song instrumental part of the show. the hip hop tracks were really well done. mix master remixed the hell out of them live and it was tasty, new and raw. good times. look forward to friday night. my suit is pressed.

they hit the stage a couple minutes after 8 last night. played to about 9:45

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2007 10:51 AM

Mike D's hair is lookin good.

"White Castle Fries only come in one size"

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2007 10:52 AM

yeah. why they didn't just play 15 more min till 10 kinda sucks....

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2007 10:55 AM

The show didn't start till 8 last night even though doors were at 5:30. Probably going to be the same tonight but probably half as ill just because they were on point last night and the venue was smaller. Felt like a private beasties show

Posted by Pauls Bootyique | August 9, 2007 10:59 AM

anybody have any details on tonight's show? any opener? i know last nights started at 8, but what time were doors?

Posted by bearface | August 9, 2007 10:59 AM

Dogs love me 'cause i'm Crazy sniffable!

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2007 11:05 AM

Nice Pics Jefferson....Thanks for capturing a great show.
Hey BV -- this site is always exceeding my expectations -- thanks.

Posted by JohnnyFish | August 9, 2007 11:28 AM

did they have anyone opening last night? perhaps mixmaster mike doing a set or something? or was it just boring for 2 hours til 8 when they started

Posted by john | August 9, 2007 11:45 AM

Last night may have been the best Beasties show I have ever seen! All you need to know is that they opened with Biz vs. the Nuge -> Time For Livin' and they played EGG RAID ON MOJO!! They obviously didn't play No Sleep Til' Brookyn because they're saving it for tonight. Can't wait for the Gala Event!

Posted by brassbonanza | August 9, 2007 11:46 AM

JD from Le Tigre was spinning before the show!

the summerstage website said doors opened last night at 7...

mccarren's site says 6 for today...my best guess for the actual start time for tonight is 6:30/7...

set will start at 8. No opener. 2 boring hours

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2007 1:16 PM

i am still stunned by how good last nights show was. i couldn't beleive the energy. and was blown away by how great they sounded, especially since summerstage tends to suck.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2007 1:38 PM

show was fucking great- I had low expectations, not a huge fan anymore as i once was...took my wife and her friend and i was really blown away- they really mix it up and rearrange everything- brooklyn people will be psyched- OFF TO THE CROWES!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2007 1:55 PM

My wife saw Mike D last week at a restaurant and asked him to play "3 minute rule" for me tonight. I got a good one! we'll see. The Mike stands for money and the D is for DIAMONDS!!!!!

they played the set twice????

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2007 2:17 PM

was at the show last night.. although there was a good variety of material, overall the energy seemed a little weak. was it the crowd? the heat? the beasties combined age of 208? i don't know.

The Beasties fucking KILLED it. They covered all the bases. The opening two songs set the mood of the night Biz v. The Nuge into Time for Livin'... So off the hook! They are the kings of New York, fuck Frank White.

Posted by Melissa | August 9, 2007 2:51 PM

Yeah i have to agree with poster 2:24pm. I have no idea what show Jefferson saw. Plus i have to think that some of these nits saying it was the best beasties show ever have not seen very many. It was a good show but definately not the best i have ever seen them or even the most intimate. The sound at summerstage was great though. The crowd was totally not flying around. There was hardly even any mosh pit and i was pretty close to the front. I think this had something to do with how fucking hot and nasty it was out. The Beasties are getting old folks which i guess is inevitable. The energy was not as high as back in the day but they still worked it and did admirably. Some of the instrumental stuff was great esp Off The Grid which makes me more excited for Hammerstein. A beastie boys show is always fun though if for nothing else then to see suburban jock heads and other assorted morons pretending they are rappers. Btw, Jefferson, Mix Master Mike is great but far from the best turntabilist around now. Dig Deeper my man. And yes it was JD from Le Tigre playing records earlier of course considering Kathleen Hanna is Ad's girl(and she was looking lovely last night)

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2007 3:01 PM

Adrock produced on northern state's new record too and i think j.d. is on that too.

Geez. Will you friggin people listen:

the Beastie Boys are playing from 8 to 10 tonight. There is no need to speculate. It's friggin 8-10. You can sneak in the friggin venue at 4 p.m. if you like or you can show up at 9:30. who gives a fuck?

But the friggin BEASTIE BOYS ARE PLAYING from 8-10

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2007 5:33 PM

http://mccarrenpark.com/ lists tonights show as 7pm sharp.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2007 5:45 PM

They just moved it up an hour cause of the rain forecast. Beasties are now on at 7 p.m. instead of 8.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2007 5:51 PM

I read that interview w/Adam Horovitz on Gothamist. Not only does he continue to look like a dweeb, he's about as smart as wallpaper. Shame cause I used to like these guys.
