Devendra Banhart molesting Chan @ Coachella 2006 *

Cat Power added a bunch of tour dates including one where she'll be playing Madison Square Garden with Interpol and Liars! What a great triple bill...but Cat Power as an opener for Interpol at MSG? I don't know, but I'm a very cynical person. Could be good. Hopefully people will pay attention.

Chan (Cat)'s next record is going to be another covers one, which is a great thing if it's as amazing as the last one. Details on that, and all tour dates, below...

i'd love to see cat power/liars play together.. but not at MSG! this will be the one and only chance to see them on the same (non festival) bill....uhhhhh

Posted by ko | August 15, 2007 1:02 PM

whoever actually pays to see these three at msg is really really fuckin sad.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2007 1:28 PM

not as sad as people who paid to see two guys in robot outfits twiddle knobs.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2007 1:46 PM

1:28 and 1:46, stop being so cheap and cynical!

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2007 1:50 PM

Hey, now I don't have to keep justifying to myself that I really do like Interpol. Well worth the $$ for floor seats now.

Posted by Robert | August 15, 2007 1:59 PM

sad. so sad.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2007 2:08 PM

pathetic, really.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2007 2:08 PM

hey 1:46
you have no clue how fun that show was. it was the most fun i have had all summer
not a single regret. plus, oh yeah, i work and make pretty goos money. so it's not a big to deal to spend it.

why is it that the bands that get pissed on the most around here made the bones in the NYC/Brooklyn area?

The Rapture/Interpol/The Strokes/The National..for everyone who throws them a compliment, there are five who dump all over them.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2007 2:48 PM

that's the American way, but wtf cares they are great no matter what

Been waiting for this covers record for a while now. Hopefully 2 volumes worth.

Everytime I wake my wife with a diamond necklace I get that Cat Stevens song in my head.

cat power is tired and i'm tired of hearing about her... she's a completely overated artist. cat power with interpol at MSG is stupid.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2007 3:35 PM

@ anon 3:35 --

then don't go.

simple, eh?

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2007 3:43 PM

i think she's rated fine. the greatest was a bit of a bore at first, but it grew over time. her voice still intoxicates me... but i wouldn't see her in MSG, not the kind of artist who plays arena-sized venues.

chan marshall's transformation from an alcoholic who couldn't play live to a happy but still eccentric woman in control of her talent should be applauded and learned from.

Posted by mucifer | August 15, 2007 5:46 PM

covers are fun the first time around but not the second.

I really like this blog, very informative. I think I hate 90% of the people who comment on it even though we apparently like most of the same music. I've seen many great shows at "big" venues, if the bands are great the show will be worth it. Better than not being able to get tickets because the show sold out in 3 minutes.

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2007 12:39 AM

Interpol should have been booked at Hammerstein or Roseland. It's really laughable that they are at MSG.

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2007 12:56 AM

The promoters must have gotten scared they wouldn't sell the place out with just Interpol and Liars,
I'd bet money on that.
Personally, i think Cat Power is way over rated.
Though I do love "what will the community think" and her next couple early albums. And this may make me sound stupid but I also like interpol.
But they might be as bad as Cat power 7 or 8 albums in.

PS-I'm not going to the show

Thanks for sharing J

The world is better place for it....

Actually its cause Paul Banks is in love with Cat Power..read the new Spin magazine..

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2007 12:53 PM

New Interpol record is much better than (most of) the reviewers are saying. I'm looking forward to this show at MSG.

Posted by drewo | August 16, 2007 1:07 PM

Let's just face the facts and admit that Interpol's an overrated poseur band already. They had one amazing album and followed it up with bland, mediocre rock songs in an obvious attempt to become more mainstream because they're in it for the money and sluts, not the art. And their live act is mediocre: the band just stands there passionlessly playing everything like it sounds on the album, except Paul Banks can't sing half the time. So stop using this band as a status symbol, already.

her-on is cool.

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2007 4:18 PM

yo, if you've seen, cat power play recently with her new band, she is a totally different performer than she was before. Her new stuff is way more upbeat and is like true soul and R&B. Interpol should be opening for her.

Posted by b-farb | August 16, 2007 7:38 PM

someone shoot devendra banhart please.

Posted by Anonymous | August 20, 2007 11:03 AM

cat power was great at msg. she was upbeat, confident and really won over the crowd. i wish she'd played a few more of her own songs, but as soon as she played 'metal heart,' i was sold. the new covers sound really good.
